[Bug 291269] Re: Logitech MX5500 keyboard/mouse does not work with 8.10 install cd (amd64)

2008-11-11 Thread Scott Anderson
This error is occuring for me as well. You can make the keyboard and
mouse work in the installer by simply unplugging/replugging the dongle.
However I have to reset the dongle at least once per reboot to make it
work again.

Please fix :)

[Bug 56352] Re: Unlock dialog no longer pays attention to keypresses before it appears

2006-09-07 Thread Scott Anderson
I switched back to xscreensaver because of this bug. Unlocking is always
an exercise in frustration. I used to be able to bang my password in and
not worry about things; it just worked. Now I have to hit a key...
wait... type in the password; or, I bang it in, wait... I get the wiggle
dance (cute, but stupid... Max OS X does this, yes, but it doesn't have
all of the other DENIED cruft and so on. Pick one or the other, using
both takes too much time. But I digress...)... wait... type it in again.

This is not a Good User Experience (tm).

[Bug 82330] alt-f2 runbox in gnome doesn't know about ~/bin

2007-01-30 Thread Scott Anderson
Public bug reported:

Unlike a bash shell, the alt-f2 runbox only uses the system path. Any
scripts/apps/whatever in ~/bin won't be found with alt-f2.

I worked around this by adding ~/bin to the path in /etc/profile if it
exists.

[Bug 1175947] Re: gvfs-copy --preserve doesn't work with MTP devices

2013-06-30 Thread Scott Anderson
Hi. I'm having the same problem with gvfs-copy --preserve not working
using Nautilus with a crossover cable, both running gvfs 1.12.1-0ubuntu1.2
Ubuntu LTS

In fact, the whole Nautilus-Samba relationship is so buggy (because of wireless
adapters being ON prior to Samba connection over cross-over) that most of the
time I just end up using FIlezilla to transfer files...
(maybe there's some fix, but I haven't found one...)

Sad too, because I really believe that the gvfs is a fantastic concept.

[Bug 721089] [NEW] Alpha 2 Asus ATI overheats under no load, fans surging and extreme heat from vents.

2011-02-17 Thread scott anderson
Public bug reported:

Not sure where to start - running 10.10 Asus g73jh Intel, Intel ssd 80gb
hd, 6gb ram, this thing runs quiet and cool! Install 11.04 and - fans
surging wildly - up high / low / high / low approximately 1 minute
intervals - EXTREME heat from back panel - reboot to 10.10 - no
problems, run system monitor, cannot see issues? CPU numbers, processes
seem normal - possible video? None-the-less it's making some DOUBLE
mean heat!

Had to logout of 11.04 and jump into 10.10 - I could "smell" the heat
coming from my system. Since rebooting, about 5 minutes of run time,
haven't heard the fans at all. Something unhealthy is cooking IMO, will
be happy to assist, keeping it up (installed not running) for testing as
needed

Linux asus 2.6.38-3-generic #30-Ubuntu SMP Thu Feb 10 00:33:26 UTC 2011

needed

[Bug 721089] Re: Alpha 2 Asus ATI overheats under no load, fans surging and extreme heat from vents.

2011-02-17 Thread scott anderson
Alpha 2 - sorry bout beta - started to type the message till I noticed
the "smell", rebooted in 10.10 and finished the message. This happens
under no load, in about the first minute or two, the fans spin up high
as the heat gets extreme, it will continue to cycle till the fans stay
on wide open and the "smell" of hot components fills your nostrils. I
am using ATI proprietary drivers in 10.10 but in Debian I have used many
of the daily builds and didn't experience this issue.

Looked at the system monitor, cpu, memory, processes, etc and nothing
seemed out of the ordinary, my guess is its the video?
