Alpha 2 - sorry bout beta - started to type the message till I noticed the "smell", rebooted in 10.10 and finished the message. This happens under no load, in about the first minute or two, the fans spin up high as the heat gets extreme, it will continue to cycle till the fans stay on wide open and the "smell" of hot components fills your nostrils. I am using ATI proprietary drivers in 10.10 but in Debian I have used many of the daily builds and didn't experience this issue.
