[Bug 262504] Re: manual partitioner automatically selects "format" when changing file system, without warning
To answer your question why I found it necessary to change the filesystem, the answer is that I didn't. It was a slip of the mouse and I accidentally selected ext2 instead of ext3 or vice versa. (This would have been less likely, but still not impossible, to happen if the existing filesystem on the partition was already highlighted or pre- selected in the drop-down box, but it wasn't.) Is it worth a pop-up warning dialog? Yes, I think causing a partition to be formatted by an indirect method (remember, I very intentionally had left the Format Partition checkbox UNCHECKED!), is worth a pop-up warning. I can assure you that if I hadn't noticed and caught the accidental error and if Ubuntu had gone ahead and reformatted my partition, I would have had some very nasty words to say about Ubuntu installers!!! -- manual partitioner automatically selects "format" when changing file system, without warning https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/262504 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 262584] Re: Intrepid LiveCD installer didn't set up boot files correctly
Gave the same problem on Alpha 5 (except with 2.6.27-2. I still haven't been able to install Intrepid (64-bit). It only puts the initrd on /boot plus a vmcoreinfo file, but not the vmlinuz file. When I changed menu.lst to boot from the Hardy kernel (2.6.24-19), I can boot Kubuntu. But if I try to mount /boot, I get "unknown ext2 filesystem". If I try to mount the CD, I get "unknown ISo9660 filesystem". [Bug 262500] [NEW] Misleading SKIP button in Intrepid installer
Public bug reported: I was installing Intrepid Kubuntu Alpha 4. Everything went well until it said something like "Checking time with internet time servers". Since my Internet was off line at the time, I clicked SKIP to skip this step, thinking that the installation would just proceed to the next step. However, the installer seemed to skip ALL THE REST of the installation. Perhaps the button would be better labelled ABORT if this is the intended behaviour. [Bug 262504] [NEW] Intrepid installation manual partitioner automatically selects "format"
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: ubiquity I was installing Intrepid Kubuntu Alpha 4 from the LiveCD onto a multiboot system. I chose MANUAL PARTITIONING. After selecting EDIT PARTITION for my /boot partition, I accidentally chose the wrong file system from the drop down box. It was only later that I noticed that FORMAT PARTITION had a grayed-out X in the box. Fortunately I saw it and figured out the error and was able to cancel out then start again. I think manual partitioning would be much safer if it warned the user when the installer decides to format a partition when the user had not actively requested it. (I had very intentionally left the format partition box unchecked because I didn't want my boot partition wiped out!) ** Affects: ubiquity (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Intrepid installation manual partitioner automatically selects "format" https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/262504 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 262584] [NEW] Intrepid LiveCD installer didn't set up boot files correctly
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: ubiquity I have Ubuntu Hardy, Win-Vista and Gentoo all on a multi-boot system using Grub. /boot is a separate small ext2 partition. When I installed Intrepid Kubuntu Alpha 4 from LiveCD on a separate (ext3) partition, it completed successfully. But the system wouldn't boot. The former menu.lst had been wiped out without saving any backup copy that I could see (but I'm used to Ubuntu installs doing that). The new entries pointed to initrd.img-2.6.26-5-generic and to vmlinuz-2.6.24-19-generic. (There are also symbolic links to these two files in the root folder.) vmlinuz-2.6.26-5-generic does not exist on the /boot partition (nor could I find it anywhere else). However, there is a file vmcoreinfo-2.6.26-5-generic on /boot. Surely it's not correct to try to boot from vmlinuz and initrd files mixed from different Ubuntu versions? I tried reinstalling from the LiveCD again but the same problem. This seems weird. (I could fix up menu.lst if I could work out where to find a copy of vmlinuz-2.6.26-5 to copy onto my /boot partition.) ** Affects: ubiquity (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Intrepid LiveCD installer didn't set up boot files correctly https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/262584 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

OK, I considered that it might be worth purging my last updates which were on 30 April. My reasoning was that while the following text... "* Stopping MySQL database server mysqld...done * Shutting down Alsa... * Asking remaining processes to terminate... * Deconfiguring network interfaces... * Deactivating Swap... * Will now halt" ...had only been appearing since yesterday, sometimes this text does not appear but the screen goes black without powering off the computer. So I may not have noticed it till yesterday. (Long shot). Anyway, I got rid of the latest linux-headers, linux-headers generic, and linux-image generic packages (2.6.31.21.24) (I still had the previous ones installed), and the problem was solved - on my desktop. [Bug 1867431] Re: ERROR got an error from dpkg for pkg: 'libc6'
Yes, I couldn't confirm any details about the bug yesterday (on https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/glibc/+bug/1866844) coz I'm still locked out of my system but it was the only mention I could find then of a libc6/libcrypt install failure. [Bug 1867431] Re: ERROR got an error from dpkg for pkg: 'libc6'
Second day unable to login. Didn't get any advice here about zfs (obviously not many users), but I'm in a recovery terminal and managed to find `zfs mount -a` which at least filled out \var. \lib is a symlink to \usr\lib but not finding a `x86_64-linux-gnu` folder there, so unable to follow Jefrrey's instructions about `libcrypt.so`. Any help would be appreciated coz I've run out of things to try. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1867431 Title: ERROR got an error from dpkg for pkg: 'libc6' To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/glibc/+bug/1867431/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1867431] Re: ERROR got an error from dpkg for pkg: 'libc6'
Yeah, it's 64-bit. Just got in :-), thanks Jeffrey. Might have been finger problems earlier -- seems `x86_64-linux-gnu` was there, just not showing up in autocomplete. The `zfs mount -a` was the only extra step needed for ZFS. Thanks to everyone for your help. [Bug 1867431] Re: ERROR got an error from dpkg for pkg: 'libc6'
Jsut realised that when I deleted the resolv.conf symlink and instead created a file containing the single line `nameserver 8.8.8.8` in order to get internet access from the broken system, that change remained once I got the system working again. But I forgot to note down what it was pointing to before. I see on my eoan system it's a symlink to `../run/systemd/resolve/stub-resolv.conf` so I presume that's also correct for focal? Just noting it here for other users to remember to fix afterwards (by deleting the file with `cd /etc/`. `sudo rm resolv.conf`, and then `sudo ln -s ../run/systemd/resolve/stub- resolv.conf resolv.conf' (although not sure why it's a relative path and not an absolute one). Searching Google for automatic ways to do this didn't lead me to any more automated way that would work on my focal system which doesn't appear to have the resolvconf package installed.
