[Bug 182409] A Flame About 64-bit Pointers
Public bug reported: (Please note this is a copy & paste from Donald E. Knuth's homepage: http://www-cs-faculty.stanford.edu/~uno/news.html - Given who he is, I think the issue should receive a bit of love. I also reported the bug to gcc, it's bug #34764) It is absolutely idiotic to have 64-bit pointers when I compile a program that uses less than 4 gigabytes of RAM. When such pointer values appear inside a struct, they not only waste half the memory, they effectively throw away half of the cache. The gcc manpage advertises an option "-mlong32" that presumably does what I want. Namely, it should compile code for my x86-64 architecture, taking advantage of the extra registers etc., but it should also know that my program is going to live inside a 32-bit virtual address space. Unfortunately, the gcc I got with Ubuntu 7.10 says that -mlong32 is an unknown option. Probably that happens because programs compiled with this convention will need to be loaded with a special version of libc. [Bug 900354] Reduced link interface
Hi, A while ago a bug was reported in Ubuntu: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/witty/+bug/900354 It boils down to this: building an application which uses Wt requires linking to some libraries (Boost Signals, etc), even if the application does not directly use them. That can be solved by establishing a so-called "link interface" for libwt, libwthttp, etc. It's documented here: http://techbase.kde.org/Development/CMake_KDE_4_2#New:_The_reduced_link_interface http://cmake.org/cmake/help/v2.8.8/cmake.html#command:target_link_libraries I cannot work on this on my (nonexistent) spare time[*] at the moment, just mentioning the problem and the solution in case other people are affected. [Bug 1169181] Re: upgrade-software-version
The new package is in the works and will be available from the Wt PPA soon: https://launchpad.net/~pgquiles/+archive/wt The only reason I have not released 3.3.0 yet is fixes: there are a couple of bugfixed I have upstreamed and a cross-site scripting attack in a third-party component which I expect to be fixed very soon. [Bug 1169456] [NEW] Duplicate package
Public bug reported: Ubuntu 13.04 contains 2 packages with the same software: - jplayer: Ubuntu-only package, contains an old version (1.2.0). It was also available in 12.10. - libjs-jquery-jplayer + jquery-jplayer-bluemonday + jquery-jplayer-pinkflag: the Debian package (which I'm the maintainer of), contains a newer version (2.1.0, to be updated this week due to a security fix). It has become available in 13.04. IMHO, jPlayer should be provided with the libjs-jquery-jplayer package and the 'jplayer' package be reduced to a transitional package. The transition plan would be like this: - I will add to libjs-jquery-jplayer these fields: "Replaces: jplayer (<< 2.1.0~)" and "Conflicts: jplayer (<< 2.1.0~)" and maintain them at least until Ubuntu 12.10 runs ouf of support. - You will add to jplayer this field: "Depends: libjs-jquery-jplayer". I've compared the jQuery versions related to this issue: - jQuery 1.4b1 (bundled with Wt 3.1.10) - jQuery 1.5-2ubuntu1 (shipped by Ubuntu 11.04) - jQuery 1.6.2-1ubuntu2 (shipped by Ubuntu 11.10) I regenerated the jQuery packages on 11.04 and 11.10, and applied filetostring.cmake to convert them to C++. (There are differences in jQuery 1.5, but they do not affect us, as that's what was used in 11.04, and that version worked fine) Maybe Wt does is incompatible with jQuery 1.6.2? (changing from jQuery 1.4 to 1.5/1.6 has reportedly caused problems in the Wordpress package). According to Koen, the problem is a missing '\'. Colin, That's exactly it: a no-change rebuild. Why it fixes the problem? Upstream identified the problem as a missing "\" in jQuery.min.js: http://redmine.emweb.be/boards/2/topics/3171#message-3201 When building Wt, jQuery is embedded into the libwt.so library. I'm not sure why, but either CMake (failing substitution?) or libjs-jquery caused the problem. Now that CMake and/or libjs-jquery work fine, building Wt embeds the right jQuery.min.js. To obtain it, in case you want to reproduce with a different gcc or anything, just run: $ make Wt/WAbstractArea.i from the 'witty-3.1.5/build-shared/src' directory ** Attachment added: "Failing source file (preprocessed)" https://bugs.edge.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gcc-4.4/+bug/647597/+attachment/1638696/+files/WAbstractArea.i.gz -- Internal compiler error while building package 'witty' https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/647597 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 646824] Re: xvidcap fails to build from source

@Alessio: I know, that's why I said "... fixes the FIRST issue" :-) This blog post has more details on how to port the other functions: http://freedrull.wordpress.com/2010/03/12/xvid-in-portage/ -- xvidcap fails to build from source https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/646824 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 439192] Re: nvidia-settings can't save settings to xorg.conf
Make sure packages pkg-config and python-gtk2 are installed -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/439192 Title: nvidia-settings can't save settings to xorg.conf -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 721453] [NEW] nvidia-settings should depend on pkg-config and python-gtk
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: nvidia-settings nvidia-settings uses pkg-config and python-gtk2 to read/write xorg.conf. If they are not installed, nvidia-settings will work mostly fine (you can choose new resolutions, configure dual screen, etc and apply changes) but when you try to save your configuration, it will either not write anything, or write a corrupt xorg.conf. This is mostly noticed on Kubuntu because python-gtk2 is not needed on Kubuntu, and pkg-config will only be installed by developers. This is probably the root cause of bugs LP 439192 and LP 286424 ** Affects: nvidia-settings (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: gtk2 nvidia pkg-config python -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/721453 Title: nvidia-settings should depend on pkg-config and python-gtk -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 371178] Re: pinentry-qt4 doesn't prompt for a password when trying to read an encrypted email in Kmail
This bug only happens if you use Qt4 installed from packages. If you download Qt from Nokia and set your LD_LIBRARY_PATH and PATH to use that version of Qt4, pinentry-qt4 works fine. Maybe this is a bug in some qt- copy or kubuntu patch? -- pinentry-qt4 doesn't prompt for a password when trying to read an encrypted email in Kmail https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/371178 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 591224] Re: New upstream available: v. 3.1.3
Closing as invalid for the following reasons: - Please, do not use bug reports to request the upload of a new version. The maintainer knows there is a new version. If the maintainer has not uploaded a new version, there is a reason for that. Namely, 3.1.3, 3.1.4 and 3.1.5 are broken soversion-wise. 3.1.5 will be uploaded soon with a fix after talking with upstream. - Even if using bug reports to request a new version was justified (it is not), the proper place to do that would be the Debian bugtracker. Ubuntu "inherits" packages from Debian unless you see "ubuntu" in the version number. ** Changed in: witty (Ubuntu) Status: New => Invalid ** Changed in: witty (Ubuntu) Assignee: (unassigned) => Pau Garcia i Quiles (pgquiles) -- New upstream available: v. 3.1.3 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/591224 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
