[Bug 411530] Re: netbook-launcher crashed with SIGSEGV in IA__g_cclosure_marshal_VOID__OBJECT()

2009-08-20 Thread PatrickSCarrroll
netbook-launcher crashes so much (and over so many updated versions with
"fixes") that it's totally unuseable. It crashes just by clicking on
any icon, or just rebooting and waiting a few seconds or minutes.
Hopefully fixed before release.

[Bug 469303] [NEW] Enabling Compiz (ignoring blacklist) causes system to hard-lock

2009-11-01 Thread PatrickSCarrroll
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: compiz

Dell Optiplex GX260: 1GB RAM
Intel 845 Integrated Graphics
Graphics chipset blacklisted by compiz
Distribution: Karmic 9.10 Release, with all available updates.

1. Trying to enable compiz effects normal not possible through the
System/Preferences/Appearance (click on the Normal radio button)...says no
driver available.
2. Ignoring blacklist for compiz causes system to hard-freeze (mouse pointer
freezes, system unresponsive, need hard reboot) on reboot...get initial
screen-centered Ubuntu logo on initial bootup, x appears to startup, get mouse
icon with circular icon (no mouse pointer icon), then screen goes black. Have
to hard-reboot and delete ~home/.config/compiz folder to be able to log into
system.
3. Updating Intel drivers to xorg-edgers enables compiz in the
System/Preferences/Appearance to be able to enable effects, but system hard
freezes when it tries to enable the effects.

Result: unable to use compiz effects in Karmic with Intel 845 graphics
chipset.

[Bug 529052] Re: battery applet comes and goes in notification area

2010-03-01 Thread PatrickSCarrroll
I can confirm the same problem on my fully updated Lucid Lynx laptop
(updated just a few minutes ago, and a reboot done after running update-
manager). The indicator for the battery appears and disappears all by
itself, no interaction required. I can get a menu for the battery icon
when it appears, but when it disappears, clicking on the area where it
was does nothing. Everytime the battery icon appears and disappears, it
adds a little bit more space to the right that aventually causes
everything to the left of the original location on the bar (i.e.
everything to the left of the bar) to disappear as well. You have to
reboot to fix the problem, but then it starts the process all over
again.

[Bug 529052] Re: battery applet comes and goes in notification area

2010-03-02 Thread PatrickSCarrroll
I got the same update and rebooted (yeah, I don't have to)...but the
problem still persists. The battery icon appears and disappears all on
it's own as the notification area grows and grows (wierd). I'm running
on battery power (and it also occurs when plugged in, and doesn't appear
to be related to switching between the two).

Note: I did an upgrade from Karmic, am running an Asus Eee PC 1000h with
2gb RAM, and the very latest patches to Lucid Alpha 3. I run Gnome
desktop, the window-picker-applet, the gnome menu, two instances of the
CPU Frequency scaling monitor, system monitor applet, notification area
applet, eee-control-tray, clock, indicator session applet.

Safe to say, installing/uninstalling applications in the Ubuntu Software

should be considered high importance or reviews of Lucid, when it is
released, are going to be harping on the "flagship" software "app store"
being buggy/crashy.

[Bug 529052] Re: battery applet comes and goes in notification area

2010-03-04 Thread PatrickSCarrroll
Is there any way to fix this? Or do we just have to remove the
notification area? Any alternatives to the notification area applet if
this can't be fixed?

Public bug reported:

I don't know what happened, but did an upgrade and then rebooted. Got

[Bug 529052] Re: battery applet comes and goes in notification area

2010-03-05 Thread PatrickSCarrroll
I can confirm the same as Phoenix7117. The icon continues to appear and
disappear all by itself. It is no longer shifting everything over to
the left anymore (i.e. making the toolbar unuseable) though so at least
it's now somewhat fixed. I'm up-to-date with everything in update-
manager (propsed fixes, etc, everything) as of about an hour ago. There
is still no tooltip for the battery icon, and right-clicking on the icon
does nothing.

[Bug 498167] Re: iPhone sync during the copy of files

2009-12-24 Thread PatrickSCarrroll
How does one get ahold of this fix in binary form? I spent all night
trying to sync music to my iPhone 3GS, and it still only got through 33%
of it...and it taking forever to complete. This fix would be perfect
and would save days of syncing time.

[Bug 971839] Re: aptd crashed with UnboundLocalError in _emit_acquire_item(): local variable 'lang' referenced before assignment

2012-04-07 Thread PatrickSCarrroll
How can a fix, in a nimble open-source world, take so long to "reach
the servers"? Are we using 300 baud modems on the backend? The bug
reports won't stop just cuz you ask when you won't release the fix.

[Bug 548774] Re: Kernel Crashes when attaching to hidden SSID network after waking from sleep.

2010-09-16 Thread PatrickSCarrroll
I don't know if I'm having the same bug. Everytime I put my laptop to
sleep, if I wakeup and try to connect to a wireless network the system
freezes hard or never connects (whether it's an open or WPA2 network,
hidden or not). On a reboot, I'm always told that my kernel is unstable,
and I submit a bug report but nothing is ever done. I'm updating
everyday with all of the latest updates to see if something fixes it.

[Bug 640809] [NEW] [STAGING] Crash after resume from sleep and reconnect to wireless network

2010-09-16 Thread PatrickSCarrroll
Public bug reported:

1. Get yourself an Asus EeePC 1000h
2. Install Maverick (latest beta and add all updates if you want, doesn't
matter) and connect to wireless network.
3. Put computer to sleep
4. Resume from sleep
5. Try to reconnect to wireless network (open, WPA2, whatever)
6. System freezes (no mouse cursor, no changes in video, completely frozen)
7. Reboot, get message to submit bug report (have done several times)
8. Submit bug report
9. Prepare to be ignored
10. Resubmit report
11. Repeat
12. Dual boot back into Windows 7 which is more stable regarding
sleep/hibernation. Yeah, pisses me off too.

[Bug 624087] Re: nautilus crashed with SIGSEGV in g_cclosure_marshal_VOID__BOXED()

2010-09-10 Thread PatrickSCarrroll
why doesn't the bug reporting software do the backtrace for us? I've
never done one before, and when I tried it's been several reboots since
then. Seems like a waste of time to even report bugs.

[Bug 624087] Re: nautilus crashed with SIGSEGV in g_cclosure_marshal_VOID__BOXED()

2010-09-07 Thread PatrickSCarrroll
I was formatting an SD card with "Disk Utility". I unmounted the SD
card, tried to format it, the format failed, then nautilus popped up
showing some other directory (other than the SD card, I believe) then
crashed. I was prompted to submit a bug report, and it brought me here.
