[Bug 519241] [NEW] Wget based geoip lookup ignores GNOME proxy settings
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: ubiquity In step 2, when ubiquity tries to lookup location of installer's IP, it creates subprocess of wget which tries to get simple answer from http://geoip.ubuntu.com/lookup. In result, installator waits very long time *if* machine is behind firewall with only access trough http proxy. Result I got: Waiting for very long time for wget request to time out. Expected result: When using a LiveCD GNOME env. it could respect GNOME proxy settings, but in installer-only mode it would be propably wise to limit waiting time for wget's answer. Well, there is a problem. I don't know how this fix works, but quicktime.com still gives me ad for Quicktime instead of playing it after upgrading to 2.30.0-0ubuntu3. I can't see many reasons why Apple does it - they don't have and they don't plan to release Quicktime for Linux - but this is quite saddening and no Ubuntu or Gstreamer fault at all. [Bug 547106] [NEW] Please upgrade libproxy to 0.4.0 in Lucid
Public bug reported: Please upgrade libproxy to 0.4.0 in Lucid, as it is important for Gwibber (which is one of core apps for Lucid) to provide much needed proxy support (https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/259830 - I will provide patch) before release. Current version 0.2.3 is very old (~ 2 years), and only generally support GNOME proxy settings, in same time lacking authentication and https support. But 0.4.0 has very clean and very up to date GNOME proxy settings support, including it also has lot of bugfixes. Most important reasoning of this appeal is that according to libproxy developer's claim, there is no API changes between 0.2.3 and 0.4.0 versions, therefore after careful investigation there should be no problems with this bump. Also any application which depends on libproxy would benefit from better auto-magical proxy discovery. ** Affects: libproxy (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Please upgrade libproxy to 0.4.0 in Lucid https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/547106 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 401655] Re: Add udev rules for Huawei E1550 GSM modem
Propably should (but more like in suggests status). Also there is work going on to include usb-modeswitch in main and by default in Ubuntu, but this won't make for Lucid because of amount of testing this step requires. [Bug 401655] Re: Add udev rules for Huawei E1550 GSM modem
Jonas: you can suggest for OEMs and people who installs Ubuntu to add this package to the mix. If people who does installing knows this, this is already some kind of solution. [Bug 495220] Re: Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd. E620 USB Modem not recognised in lucid
blackest_knight: I fully agree with you, we tried to include usb- modeswitch by default, but we missed a feature freeze deadline (as it requires rather serious testing and changes, it didn't pass for freeze exception). It would be recommended for OEMs to include it in preinstalls. However, if would try to install usb-modeswitch and then test E620 again, at least we would know that this isn't a bug against usb-modeswitch and we could postpone fixing a bug, not making it invalid :) -- Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd. [Bug 139401] Re: Show Totem new logo as default screen when Totem is launched without opening media
Well, it is not ugly, but it lacks details which GNOME's default totem icon provides, that's why it gives a little wtf moment for everyone who seen it there. [Bug 206547] Re: Open (but do not raise) new conversation windows automatically
Matthew, no, it is true, it does break current system. I remember quite clearly that concept of "nothing interferes with my work" was championed by Canonical, witch introduced notifications and indicator. It was clear direction and I welcomed that. Now again there is change in things. Sorry, but pop-under window is *still* a interference. I don't want windows to be opened automatically, period. No updates, no messages. "...but we never intended it as the only method of notifying you of new conversations -- it's not noticable enough for that" It is noticeable, if it's explained. Of course, it is easer to revert back to old ways instead of explaining. Sometimes users should be educated, not pleased. No offence, but IMHO it is very huge step backwards. -- Open (but do not raise) new conversation windows automatically https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/206547 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 206547] Re: Open (but do not raise) new conversation windows automatically
I strongly disagree with opening windows automatically by default, It breaks all indicator applet idea and in my humble opinion current way is the best (give indication that you need to give attention to conversation. If you can't then you don't have tens of windows lingering open in the background). Popup windows always have been bad stuff, and I don't see any real reason to enable it by default just because of legacy of IM clients. Option will be available and that's nice (thanks to Guillaume and other devs). But I think it should be left as it is. It could be enabled when accounts are imported from Pidgin or some other IM client, for example. -- Open (but do not raise) new conversation windows automatically https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/206547 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
