[Bug 412362] [NEW] NetworkManager doesn't recognise Huawei E1692 model anymore

2009-08-11 Thread Pēteris Krišjānis
Public bug reported:

Huawei E1692 doesn't work anymore with Ubuntu Karmic Koala alpha versions. It
has to be mode switched, which is done, and dmesg shows this:
[ 428.884052] usb 1-4: new high speed USB device using ehci_hcd and address 5
[ 429.027387] usb 1-4: configuration #1 chosen from 1 choice
[ 429.073530] usbcore: registered new interface driver usbserial
[ 429.073558] USB Serial support registered for generic
[ 429.073665] usbcore: registered new interface driver usbserial_generic
[ 429.073670] usbserial: USB Serial Driver core
[ 429.086525] USB Serial support registered for GSM modem (1-port)
[ 429.086600] option 1-4:1.0: GSM modem (1-port) converter detected
[ 429.086764] usb 1-4: GSM modem (1-port) converter now attached to ttyUSB0
[ 429.086783] option 1-4:1.1: GSM modem (1-port) converter detected
[ 429.086871] usb 1-4: GSM modem (1-port) converter now attached to ttyUSB1
[ 429.086889] option 1-4:1.2: GSM modem (1-port) converter detected
[ 429.086976] usb 1-4: GSM modem (1-port) converter now attached to ttyUSB2
[ 429.087015] usbcore: registered new interface driver option
[ 429.087018] option: v0.7.2:USB Driver for GSM modems

But NetworkManager is silent, and it's debug shows classic messages for
Ethernet connections. I can't connect to Internet using Network Manager,
creating profile for my mobile provider and choosing it from menu. It seems not
to recognise USB class and model:
Bus 001 Device 007: ID 12d1:1001 Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd. E620 USB Modem

This modem works nicely in Jaunty.

[Bug 412362] Re: NetworkManager doesn't recognise Huawei E1692 model anymore

2009-08-12 Thread Pēteris Krišjānis
It is already fixed.

Seemingly when I installed Alpha3 modemmanager wasn't added to ubuntu-
desktop task and therefore no modem fun for me in NetworkManager.
Installed it and everything works now like a charm.

[Bug 519241] [NEW] Wget based geoip lookup ignores GNOME proxy settings

2010-02-09 Thread Pēteris Krišjānis
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: ubiquity

In step 2, when ubiquity tries to lookup location of installer's IP, it
creates subprocess of wget which tries to get simple answer from
http://geoip.ubuntu.com/lookup. In result, installator waits very long
time *if* machine is behind firewall with only access trough http proxy.

Result I got:
Waiting for very long time for wget request to time out.

Expected result:
When using a LiveCD GNOME env. it could respect GNOME proxy settings, but in
installer-only mode it would be propably wise to limit waiting time for wget's
answer.

[Bug 569680] [NEW] Hard disk write/read freezes for 10 seconds several times in session

2010-04-25 Thread Pēteris Krišjānis
Public bug reported:

After booting and loging in, computer freezes for 10 or so seconds and
dmesg has this. I think - but not sure - this wasn't a problem before
updates around beta2, but certainly it is regression from Karmic. I
tried to report this with ubuntu-bug, but Ubuntu claimed that newest

2010-05-04 Thread Pēteris Krišjānis
While not wanting to turn this into discussion thread, as staunch Ubuntu

brighter side, we have definite plans for releasing proxy supporting
Gwibber in PPA for Lucid within 2 months, so proxy users won't be left
out in the cold. I will try to research posiblity to add some support
for XMPP in Empathy.

[Bug 411574] Re: [karmic] No sound on Intel 82801H HD Audio

2010-01-06 Thread Pēteris Krišjānis
KrazyPenguin, it is known bug and there are several notes about this:
a) This driver is enabled optionally (Restricted drivers require confirmation
from user to install them);
b) PulseAudio team already admitted that it is their fault. Blocking ALSA
subdevice with slmodemd shouldn't block main subdevice for playback or/and
recording.

Cheers,

[Bug 431817] Re: apple trailers won't play when opened from apple.Com

2010-04-11 Thread Pēteris Krišjānis
Well, there is a problem. I don't know how this fix works, but
quicktime.com still gives me ad for Quicktime instead of playing it
after upgrading to 2.30.0-0ubuntu3. I can't see many reasons why Apple
does it - they don't have and they don't plan to release Quicktime for
Linux - but this is quite saddening and no Ubuntu or Gstreamer fault at
all. Almost only reason I can think about that they have lot of
"leecher" tools and different players connecting to site and trying
playing trailers and overmaxing their resources, so they have to limit
this access. Still, not very nice.

This is first version of the patch to add GNOME proxy settings support. Several

* Facebook client activation page doesn't work, should take a look;

[Bug 547106] [NEW] Please upgrade libproxy to 0.4.0 in Lucid

2010-03-25 Thread Pēteris Krišjānis
Public bug reported:

Please upgrade libproxy to 0.4.0 in Lucid, as it is important for
Gwibber (which is one of core apps for Lucid) to provide much needed
proxy support (https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/259830 - I will provide
patch) before release. Current version 0.2.3 is very old (~ 2 years),
and only generally support GNOME proxy settings, in same time lacking
authentication and https support. But 0.4.0 has very clean and very up
to date GNOME proxy settings support, including it also has lot of
bugfixes.

Most important reasoning of this appeal is that according to libproxy
developer's claim, there is no API changes between 0.2.3 and 0.4.0
versions, therefore after careful investigation there should be no
problems with this bump. Also any application which depends on libproxy
would benefit from better auto-magical proxy discovery.

[Bug 259830] Re: Honor gnome proxy setting

2010-03-26 Thread Pēteris Krišjānis
Rudamentary patch for proxy support using libproxy (it checks for
proxies supporing url, if there is none, proxy is not set. If there is
authentification, it sets curl to autodetection for most secure method).
Facebook widget is another target, but it uses webkit so it will be more
complicated.

[Bug 401655] Re: Add udev rules for Huawei E1550 GSM modem

2010-03-22 Thread Pēteris Krišjānis
Jonas: usb-modeswitch in Lucid Lynx are redesigned to be launched by
udev if rules fit. For example, if you plugin device and usb strings
match, it launches usb-modeswitch with right configuration file and
device automagically works.

In Karmic/Jaunty you still have to edit and run it from console with
sudo.

blackest_knight: I fully agree with you, we tried to include usb-

exception). It would be recommended for OEMs to include it in
preinstalls. However, if would try to install usb-modeswitch and then
test E620 again, at least we would know that this isn't a bug against
usb-modeswitch and we could postpone fixing a bug, not making it invalid

[Bug 206547] Re: Open (but do not raise) new conversation windows automatically

2010-01-13 Thread Pēteris Krišjānis
Matthew, no, it is true, it does break current system. I remember quite
clearly that concept of "nothing interferes with my work" was championed
by Canonical, witch introduced notifications and indicator. It was clear
direction and I welcomed that. Now again there is change in things.
Sorry, but pop-under window is *still* a interference. I don't want
windows to be opened automatically, period. No updates, no messages.

"...but we never intended it as the only method of notifying you of new
conversations -- it's not noticable enough for that"

It is noticeable, if it's explained. Of course, it is easer to revert
back to old ways instead of explaining. Sometimes users should be
educated, not pleased.

No offence, but IMHO it is very huge step backwards.

[Bug 206547] Re: Open (but do not raise) new conversation windows automatically

2010-01-12 Thread Pēteris Krišjānis
I strongly disagree with opening windows automatically by default, It
breaks all indicator applet idea and in my humble opinion current way is
the best (give indication that you need to give attention to
conversation. If you can't then you don't have tens of windows lingering
open in the background). Popup windows always have been bad stuff, and I
don't see any real reason to enable it by default just because of legacy
of IM clients. Option will be available and that's nice (thanks to
Guillaume and other devs). But I think it should be left as it is.

It could be enabled when accounts are imported from Pidgin or some other
IM client, for example.
