Yes it's still an issue but it's uncertain if this is the correct place to
report it. It might be a bigger problem than what kubuntu can fix.

[Bug 224876] Re: Hardy does not control the CPU fan properly.

2008-06-02 Thread oscar
I thought that my ThinkPad X60s was getting warm. I installed the
sensors applet, and it showed that the temperature was creeping into the
80's, with the fan steady somewhere around 3300 rpm (or was it 3600?).
Seems rather high/dangerous. I guess it is back to Windows until this
is fixed, if ever :-(

[Bug 205496] Re: [Hardy]Xsane needs root to operate scanner

2008-05-22 Thread oscar
I know that this does not fix the bug, but FWIW it may help somebody.
For now, this works for me:

make a file /etc/udev/rules.d/50-scanner-kludge.rules, containing:
SYSFS{idVendor}=="04b8", SYSFS{idProduct}=="0130", MODE="664", GROUP="scanner"
(substitute your vendor and product numbers shown by sane-find-scanner)
Add yourself to the scanners group.

Unlike other suggestions on the web, I placed this in a new file so that
it can be easily deleted when/if the root of the problem is fixed.

2008-08-19 Thread Oscar
Unfortunatly I no longer have access to the external monitor, but if
memory serves me correctly the issue disappeared when I tried a
live-cd of a later version. So it was probably something that got
botched during the upgrade and hasn't been fixed since.
If noone else wants this bug open you can close it.

[Bug 237471] Re: no virtualbox-ose-modules package for latest kernel (2.6.24-18)

2008-06-05 Thread oscar
Don't think that reverting to the old kernel is a satisfactory solution.
I have the restricted version of virtualbox on my other computer (I need USB
support there). After the kernel update it popped up a message box saying how
to fix it: running with sudo some command "/etc/??? setup" (unfortunately I did
not kept notes). It came up with something saying that it was re-compiling
some module, and after that everything works perfectly again. Would the same
thing work with the ose version?

To Thomas Whm.
Try killing wpa_supplicant and try that again. If that doesn't work also kill
networkmanager.

This will give an idea on where the problem might be as I see it. If
things start working after wpa_supplicant is dead, then the problem is
probably there somewhere. Wouldn't you agree?

The problem persisted into Ubuntu 9.04, but solved by re-installing and

[Bug 37153] Re: Text files with national characters in their names won't open.

Hello
I dont know if this bug is related, but I have a similar problem.
I have several files in:

Beagle is indexing files ok, and beagle search shows the proper files
when I am looking for it.

But when I double-click in a file from the search window in order to
open it, the asociated application cannot open it because the path to
the file is malformed.

For example, if the file corresponds to...
"/mnt/windows/Documents and Settings/Hernández/doc.htm"

...then Beagle tries to open this path...
file:///mnt/windows/Documents%20and%20Settings/Hern%E1ndez/doc.htm

...but the correct one should be:
file:///mnt/windows/Documents%20and%20Settings/Hern%C3%A1ndez/doc.htm

On the other hand, if I use te option "reveal in folder" the folder containing
the file opens correctly in nautilus...

Thank you

[Bug 56160] Localizations broken after upgrade.

Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: kopete

After an upgrade to KDE-3.5.4 I can no longer see the special chars of my

This manifests in messages coming to me, not to the ones I send.

[Bug 56165] Timing problem?

2006-08-12 Thread Oscar
Public bug reported:

Sometimes when I try to connect to my wlan I click on the "link" that is
the wlan. Then, after some time wlan-assistant will report that it
couldn't connect to the network, and then ask me if I want to
reconfigure something. If I just wait a few more seconds, (5-20) and
perhaps do a "refresh", it'll connect to the wlan.

Odd and not exactly the expected behaviour. I do believe that if I do a
"reconfigure" as asked when it fails to connect the first time it'll
connect me to wlan under my feet so when I'm done reconfiguring I'm
already connected.

[Bug 56168] Re: k3b should *not* calculate md5 sum of images by default

2006-08-12 Thread Oscar
Look here:

*sigh*

I'm always thrown off by that single-to-double digit version number. It looks
like what you were asking for was or should have been fixed in 0.7.5 but since
ours is more current I'm guessing that either I haven't understood something or
the fix didn't work.
Anyway, I've confirmed the bug since I see it too.

[Bug 56433] Right-click-menu connected to wrong application

2006-08-15 Thread Oscar
Public bug reported:

If I open a konqueror window in any directory and right-click, I get the
option to create documents (write/spreadsheet/others). Most of these
seem to be connected to koffice, something that isn't installed on my
machine, and something that isn't installed by default IIRC.

I think that these shortcuts should be connected to openoffice.org
instead as that makes much more sense.

The problem might be related to my upgrade of KDE to KDE3.5.4 but that
shouldn't change the shortcuts to a non existing application.

[Bug 56561] Chopped off paths in helper applications

2006-08-16 Thread Oscar
Public bug reported:

In firefox, when selecting a helper application I found a slightly annoying bug.
Reproduce like this.
1) Click on a link that requires you to launch a helper application.
2) Choose "Open with" and that "Choose" button
3) Press / to be able to type the path to the application.
Now when you begin typing the path it will autocomplete for you, even the
application-name, however if you just press enter when when you get the
application-name it won't work. Only the part that you've typed yourself will
be the application that is tried (like /usr/bin/kaf instead of
/usr/bin/kaffeine).

It is possible to work around by adding a space at the end which will
complete the auto-complete for you but that's not exactly intuitive,
especially not when the complete path to the application is visible on
the screen for you.

[Bug 54450] The updater doesn't tell the problem.

2006-07-29 Thread Oscar
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: adept

I get the little update notifier icon and I click on it. It tells me that it
needs to upgrade some packages, I click OK and do the normal stuff. Then I get
the error message: "There was an error commiting changes. Possibly there was a
problem downloading some packages or the commit would break packages."
Then "Update complete, good bye". And no updates installed.

Not very good.
When running aptitude instead it gives much more information.

"Writing extended state information... Error!
E: I wasn't able to locate file for the conexant package. This might mean you
need to manually fix this package.
E: Couldn't lock list directory..are you root?"

So adept lets me know the error and how to fix it (put the conexant
package with the other packages) but adept would remain "broken" forever
with no hint on how to fix it.

The conexant package was installed with the kubuntu package menu from
konqeror. Perhaps it should be fixed so that that functionality doesn't
break adept?

[Bug 37153] Re: Text files with national characters in their names won't open.

2006-11-03 Thread oscar
The problem referred in my previous comment (2006-08-07), relative to
Ubuntu Dapper, is NOT present with my current configuration:

- Ubuntu Edgy Eft (6.10)
- Beagle Search 0.2.9 (Using Desktop Search, not using Deskbar).

Now Beagle opens correctly all files with accents in their names.

It is important to note that when I upgraded from Dapper to Edgy I
deleted all the files and folders in ~/.beagle (except the folder
"config") so all indexes were rebuilt by the new version of beagle.

After installing it, downloading the firmware, putting it in the right
place and changing the name of it, I get:

But the foo2zjs driver isn't visible in gnome-print under drivers, it
selects a LaserJet 1010 with hpijs that doesn't work.

[Bug 155673] External monitor stopped working after upgrade

2007-10-21 Thread Oscar
Public bug reported:

After upgrading to gutsy it would seem that my external monitor doesn't
work anymore.

After trying a reboot things go like this.
Pre kdm - > black screen in external monitor/ internal laptop monitor is fine
kdm start -> KDM login screen on external monitor .Internal monitor goes all
white with black spots in it. very weird.
kde start -> Internal monitor is fine again. External monitor goes black.

Something appears to be very wrong here. I think the VGA-port is fine
since it does work during the KDM-step, but something is obviously not
right.

I'll be happy to do some testing and I will respond quickly to any
requests for information.

[Bug 155676] Offline to online mode weirdness

2007-10-21 Thread Oscar
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: kdepim

If I've had kontact in offline mode and then bring it back into online
mode via the button in the text-field (not the menu, although the same
thing might happen. havent tried it) it doesn't immediatly start to try
to fetch mail which I thought it should, but after I've prompted it to
download my mails it doesn't show up in the panel. I'll have to click on
some other folder and then back in the inbox folder to get my mails to
show up.

Probably not how things should work?

[Bug 151303] Re: mails multiply in inbox

2007-10-22 Thread Oscar
Same thing happens in Gutsy.
I'm not sure about this but it appears as if this happens most often (or only?)
with mails originating from within our site. It would seem that external mails
don't get multiplied.

I'll investigate further if this is really the case. Still, it's not a
very nice bug.

[Bug 155673] Re: External monitor stopped working after upgrade

2007-10-22 Thread Oscar
This does not happen on the live-cd so I'll assume that it's an upgrade
issue. It might disappear completely if I do a clean reinstall. I won't
do that until there are vmware-packages for gutsy however since I don't
feel like doing a manual install of that again.

The behaviour described above is reproducable though. Happens every time. If I
go out to KDM login screen, laptop screen goes bonkers and the external monitor
starts working.
I'm thinking that this might have something to do with refresh-rates or
something like that, but don't KDM and KDE get those from the same place
(xorg.conf) so how can one part work and the other not?

[Bug 156606] Kmail selects old mail after "fetch".

2007-10-24 Thread Oscar
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: kdepim

After a "fetch" operation on my IMAP server kmail automatically selects the
email that was open when I last exited the application. If the application has
been open for a while this means that the selected email could be a quite old
one.
What I'd expect is that kmail should remember which mail I was looking at or
perhaps select the newest "already read" email. Definitly not the email that
was selected when I closed the application the lst time.

[Bug 150930] Re: Black screen, and bad usplash.conf

2007-10-26 Thread oscar
I have the same problem, but I actually get an INVALID SCAN FREQ message
on the black screen, presumably from the monitor (Hitachi CM772).
Checked usplash.conf, and has 1024x768, well within the monitor
capabilities (max 1600x1200 @ 85 Hz). So it may be a problem with the
frequency setting, and not the resolution as such, which might explain
why it sometimes disappears when reducing the resolution and other times
not. Any idea of where the splash screen scan frequency is set?

[Bug 152916] Dragging todos to calendar doesn't fill the timeslot

2007-10-15 Thread Oscar
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: kdepim

In Kontact I've been dragging items from my todo-list into the calendar. It
works as expected but for some reason the graphics doesn't reflect the time.
All items from the todo-list gets a 30 min slot in the calendar, which is a
fair default.
If I then edit the calendar view and increase the time I'd expect to see a
bigger "field" in the calendar, which I don't.
Instead the "half-hour" field is located at the end of the time I specified.

Example: If I drag and drop a todo-item into a slot, say "Watch a movie" into
12:00 in the calendar, it'll put a half-hour field there, the movie however is
slightly longer so I'll edit-click the item in the calendar and add the
"start-time" as 10:30 instead.
Now there's no visual cue that the movie starts at 10:30 but only a "half-hour"
field at 12:00.

I hope I'm making sense or that you can reproduce this issue from all my
rambling. Thanks for listening. If I can provide more information that's
of any use to you, please let me know.

[Bug 152935] Kmail forgets which mail I was looking at

2007-10-15 Thread Oscar
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: kdepim

In Kmail when changing the status (top right corner selection-box) to
look at "unread" mail and then going back to the "Any/Normal" selection
Kmail doesn't go back to the mail I was looking at last, which I
expected, nor does it open the latest mail, which also might have been a
good default selection, but instead it goes back to the first mail in
the mailbox, which was really unexpected.

I don't know if it matters but what I did was that I went from
"Any/Normal" to "Unread" status, removed all "unread" mails and went
back to "Any/Normal" status.

If basket isn't running (not in the "systray" or what to call it) then basket

[Bug 148642] adept button should be greyed out

2007-10-03 Thread Oscar
Public bug reported:

This is a minor issue but still.
When an upgrade is almost finished and it does something with /tmp there's a
button called "Forget changes and quit" that isn't greyed out but probably
should be.

[Bug 150504] kmail crashes when removing local folder

2007-10-08 Thread Oscar
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: kdepim

When I change something in my IMAP profile it tells me that it doesn't find any
folders and that it will create them.
I end up with multiple folders with the same name and when trying to remove
them (one or many) kmail crashes.
It doesn't happen every time I try to remove the folders but it has happened
twice so it is sort of reproducable.
it's kind of hard to know which information you need but if you'll let me know
what you want I'll do my very best to provide it.

Here's the trace of the crash.

[Bug 150536] status setting isn't saved

2007-10-08 Thread Oscar
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: kdepim

When using kmail (via Kontact if that matters) on my IMAP folders it
does seem that the box "Status" which allows me to only see "new" or
"anwered" mails is being reset to the default value "Any(??)" whenever I
switch to a different folder and back again. IMHO it should keep the
setting that I chose until I choose another.

[Bug 150549] no "offline folders"

2007-10-08 Thread Oscar
Public bug reported:

There should be some functionality similar to MS-Windows "offline
folders".

When I use my laptop there should be a simple way to syncronize it with
my normal work-dirs and take it away on a trip. In this there should
also be a simple way to sync the files that I've changed back to the
normal work dir. As far as I know this functionality doesn't exist but I
feel that it really should.

[Bug 150555] headline, sender, date doesn't fill the full panel

2007-10-08 Thread Oscar
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: kdepim

When starting kmail via kontact the "subject, sender, date" field seems to be
hard-coded and doesn't fill the full panel. It looks a little odd when the
three fields are groped on the left side of the screen while there's a lot of
screen estate unused on the right hand side.
I'll try to include a screenshot.

[Bug 150536] Re: status setting isn't saved

2007-10-08 Thread Oscar
Ok.
Now what? The bug is still marked as "Incomplete". Should I add some
information or is there anything else you'd like me to do?
I agree that this is a very minor issue and could probably be marked as
"Wishlist" or similar.

Cheers

[Bug 151303] mails multiply in inbox

2007-10-10 Thread Oscar
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: kdepim

Hi.
For some reason mails multiply. This is a letter I sent to myself. I only sent
ONE letter but as you can see in the screenshot I'll attach the mail seems to
be delivered multiple times.
I don't know if this happens during sending or when I scan the inbox but the
fact that I've seen it with mails that I haven't sent myself I'd say it's not
the sending that's causing the problem.

I have the kdepim-dbg package installed if there's something I can do to
produce any useful information for you.
The machine I'm connecting to is an exchange of some sort.

[Bug 150504] Re: kmail crashes when removing local folder

2007-10-10 Thread Oscar
I have now installed kdepim-dbg but for some reason the "local" inbox
doesn't recreate all those folders again so at the moment I can't test
the bug I filed. I'll get back to you when things start acting up again.
Or if I haven't seen any errors in a while, I'll close the issue.

[Bug 153810] mails seems to disappear during "fetch"

2007-10-17 Thread Oscar
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: kdepim

When I fetch mails via IMAP the inbox "flickers" a lot and mails are removed
(or made invisible) during the operation. When the operation completes the
mails are back but it does look bad when you see all your mails (or the latest
ones) disappear one by one just as if they were being deleted.
The first time I saw it I got so scared that I killed Kontact so that it
wouldn't delete my whole inbox.

[Bug 151303] Re: mails multiply in inbox

2007-10-18 Thread Oscar
This behaviour is also present in KDE3.5.8.
It's really a showstopper for me. Kontact isn't really usable while it's doing
this odd thing.

I'll upgrade to Gutsy later today and see if things improve with the
"enterprise" branch of Kontact.

[Bug 133020] Re: vmware server

2007-10-20 Thread Oscar
But if it is that simple to do, and there's "rules" files from previous
versions. Shouldn't a new package be out in less than 5 minutes if
someone decided to build one?

I'm sure the above solution works like a charm, but I'd prefer a
solution that's handeled by the package manager.

[Bug 155362] vmware not present in gutsy

2007-10-21 Thread Oscar
Public bug reported:

In feisty there was both vmware player and vmware server if you enabled
the "commercial" repos. After upgrading to gutsy my vmware machines
didn't function anymore. I tried removing the vmware -server to be able
to reinstall it, just to find out that vmware-server don't exist for
gutsy, nor is there a vmware-player anywhere to be found. My vmware-
machines are now more or less just wasted space on my disk.

Will there be a vmware-server for gutsy and if so, when?

[Bug 144560] doesn't prompt for certificate

2007-09-24 Thread Oscar
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: mozilla-firefox

My internet-bank has some sort of certificate that needs to be installed for me
to log in. After installing two different certificates (one for me, one for
wife) I select "Always ask" in the preferences dialog. Meaning that firefox
should always prompt me for which certificate I want when I try to log in.
This doesn't happen.
The first time I connect I get asked which certificate to use but if I log out,
close the tab, open a new tab and try to log in I do not get prompted for a
certificate. It will just use the one I already used.
The only way to get around this is to restart firefox, which will again make
firefox prompt me for the correct certificate.

I don't know if this is a security issue, but it sure isn't good if used
in an internet-cafe or something similar.

[Bug 144415] Re: korganizer doubles todo-entries

2007-09-24 Thread Oscar
I'll reopen the bug again. It's not quite as invalid as I thought.

The problem is the default value. A fresh install will show two (2) "Default
KOrganizer resource" which will double the entries in the todo-list. It is
possible to remove one of them but that shouldn't be the first thing that a
user has to do to get a "normal" todo-list.
Granted it's not a big issue, but it's a bit more polished to include "sane"
default values.

[Bug 56433] Re: Right-click-menu connected to wrong application

2007-09-25 Thread Oscar
The problem apparently comes from the fact that "Kexi" is installed by default
in Ubuntu Feisty. Kexi depends on koffice-data which installs the files
"Presentation.desktop", "SpreadSheet.desktop" and "TextDocument.desktop" into
/usr/share/templates, which will link them to the menu in konqueror.
The .desktop-files contain references to a file in /ush/share/templates/source/
which seems to be the template itself.

I don't really know how to fix this without breaking something.
Suggestions welcome.
