[Bug 746654] Re: Installer wipes partitions which are marked as leave as is

2011-04-02 Thread Oliver Schade
/dev/sda = Intel SSD 160 GB for Operating System, marked for new partitions and
re-format
/dev/sdb = 2 TB disk - unticked format and mount partitions. Had MS-DOS
partition scheme with xfs
/dev/sdc = Identical to /dev/sdb

After installation both sdb and sdc hat GDPD (new partition scheme?)
with one partition. Empty.

[Bug 594610] [NEW] 10.04: /etc/x11/xorg.conf missing after reboot

2010-06-15 Thread Oliver Schade
Public bug reported:

Dear team,

just upgrade from Mythbuntu 9.04 to 10.04, all updates installed.

System: Intel SSD 160 GB for OS, 1.5 TB SATA for recordings, 4 GB RAM,
Quad-Core, 2 DVB-S cards.
System was stable in 9.04 for a long time.

After installation of 10.04 I enabled propertiary Nvidia drivers to use VDPAU
deinterlacer. nvidia-xconfig
creates a /etc/X11/xorg.conf which enables the Nvidia driver and works fine.

However after every second or third reboot the /etc/X11/xorg.conf file is gone.
As VDPAU is configured
the system will not play TV or any recordings but boot into the "low-res"
graphics setup.

Okay, first time I laughed and thought I did a mistake - recreated
/etc/X11/xorg.conf. After the 10th time
I was quite frustrated.

I used chmod a-w xorg.conf and chmod a-w . in /etc/X11 to disable any
updates. Since then it works fine.

[Bug 594613] Re: 10.04: /etc/x11/xorg.conf deleted after reboot

2010-06-15 Thread Oliver Schade
Hi Mario,

I spent yesterday another two hours tracking the error. It looks like the issue
is not related
to a missing /etc/X11/xorg.conf but related to the NVIDIA driver issues to
detect the screen
resolution.

According to:

https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BinaryDriverHowto/Nvidia#Low%20Screen%20Resolutions

I have defined a modeline for 1920x1200 and set the Display to use this
resolution only.
Since then I had no more issues with X resolution.

Apologies for false alarm, please close this bug - sometimes it takes some time
to find the
right Google search times to find a solution :-/
