[Bug 397543] [NEW] Guest hangs with udev initialisation

2009-07-09 Thread Niklas Schnelle
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: kvm

Ok I'm running Karmic with all updates as of 9th of July 2009. Thats kvm
version 84 and Kernel 2.6.31-2-generic.
I tried booting the GRML Live cd from grml.org (kernel 2.6.28) that worked
flawlessly under Jaunty but it hung itself up in the udev initialisation phase

It works without udev though.

[Bug 154411] Re: 2.6.22-14 Sound does not work on iMac (Intel first Gen) REGRESSION

I can't confirm this, I have just installed linux-backports-modules and
linux-backports-modules-generic and am runningt $(uname -) "2.6.22-14-generic"
and sound definitely doesn't work.
Before I rebooted to try this Kernel I was running 2.22-13-generic with sound
working.
So this definitely is no fix for my problem, sorry guys but the problem lies
somwhere else, do you know any place where I can get a list of all changes from
-13 to -14, best would be to jave a git repositry of the kernel used in Ubuntu

[Bug 149921] sd card regression

2007-10-06 Thread Niklas Schnelle
Public bug reported:

Ok first my system:
I'm running Ubuntu Gutsy Gibbon with Kernel 2.6.22-12-generic (-13 has
restricted-modules missing, reported elsewhere)
the problem is the following, I have a multi card reader and I use an SD card.
This exact configuration, i.e. same card, same reader, worked perfectly with
Feisty Fawn, now on Ubuntu Gutsy it doesn't.
Unlike with Feisty I can see Icons for the different readers (SD, MMC and so
on) in Nautilus and not only the one where the card inserted as it was on
Feisty (where it also didn't distinguish between the card types)
The problem now is that the content of my card can't be accessed with anym of
those Icons and what is even worse,
"sudo mount /dev/sdb /media/sd" also doesn't work, on Feisty it worked atleast
with my own built of vanilla 2.6.22.1.
I tried sdb, sdc, sdd and sde all without success.

[Bug 149921] Re: sd card regression

2007-10-06 Thread Niklas Schnelle
Further investigation with my Edgy Laptop shows, that the card
reader/card combination works there. The dmesg ouput when injecting the
card is:

[17180508.216000] SCSI device sdc: 498176 512-byte hdwr sectors (255 MB)

[17180508.22] sdc: Write Protect is off

[17180508.22] sdc: Mode Sense: 43 00 00 08

[17180508.22] sdc: assuming drive cache: write through

and it seems the card is running through the usb_storage kernel module,
"sudo modprobe -r usb_storage" disables the creation of /dev/sdc.

NOW SOMETHING WEIRD HAPPENED
Just after testing the reader on my laptop I replugged it int o my workstation
and suddenly it is recognised and gets mounted as it should.

I will try this again after a reboot, but it seems this was all a false
alarm caused maybe by a weak physical connection.

[Bug 1748914] [NEW] librocksdb4.1 Invalid Instruction due to wrong compile flag

2018-02-12 Thread Niklas Schnelle
Public bug reported:

According to the upstream GitHub rocksdb uses "-march=native" by
default[0] so for portable binaries one has to use "PORTABLE=1 make …".

For the librocksdb4.1 package in Ubuntu 16.04 this seems to not have
been done. Consequently trying to use this package on an older Xeon
E5649 (even though that claims SSE4.2) results in an immediate crash
with "invalid opcode" in dmesg.

When I compile from source on this same machine using

"apt-get source librocksdb-dev" and "dpkg-buildpackage -us -uc" results
in a working build.

[Bug 1424577] [NEW] Upgrade breaks Chrome update mechanism leaving users without any security updates

2015-02-23 Thread Niklas Schnelle
*** This bug is a security vulnerability ***

Public security bug reported:

Users installing Chrome from the official Google download site
(https://www.google.com/chrome/browser/desktop/index.htm)
get an additional repository added that works as the only mechanism for
security and version updates for Chrome on Ubuntu. Upgrading Ubuntu to a new
version silently (or at least with a hard to associate message) disables this
repository without uninstalling Chrome, leaving users with a working but
permanently frozen version of Chrome.

This leaves users open to all Chrome security problems found after the
upgrade and poses a severe security issue. Disabling a repository
without uninstalling applications relying on it for security updates is
just not a sane default and a lot worse than breaking applications
because the repository doesn't have versions for the new release. In the
case of Chrome leaving the repository activated would have resulted in
the right behavior.

I've been using Linux for over 10 years and noticed this happening on my
mums computer only because Gmail pointed out that the Chrome version was
no longer supported.

[Bug 915429] [NEW] directory based pool not working across mount points

2012-01-12 Thread Niklas Schnelle
Public bug reported:

I'm using Ubuntu Server 11.10 with 0.9.2-4ubuntu15.1 and tried to have my VM
images reside on a virtual
disk using hardware raid.
It's mounted as /mnt/store and I tried to enter this as a directory based pool
in virt-manager/libvirt byt then I get
"error: operation failed: failed to retrieve chardev info in qemu with 'info
char dev'" when statring a VM (it works for managing volumes)

According to another bug report it could have been an apparmor issue so I tried
bind mounting it under the default location for VMs
but this doesn't work either.

I fixed this temporarily by using the fs type volume pool but then I get my
raid mounted in the libvirt folder which is quite inconvenient
and it's unclear when in the boot process libvirt mounts it so I can't just
bind mount it in /etc/fstab
