I managed to compile acerhk on Lucid, thanks to this comment: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/acerhk/+bug/456123/comments/16 In a nutshell, do the following: - open /usr/src/YOUR-KERNEL/Makefile - search for "pg" and comment out the line in which it is - run those commands to compile and install acerhk: cp /usr/src/acerhk.tar.bz2 /tmp cd /tmp tar -xf acerhk.tar.bz2 cd /tmp/modules/acerhk make sudo make install - finally, reverse the previous change in /usr/src/YOUR-KERNEL/Makefile (uncomment the line with "pg") And it works ! -- acerhk wont compile on lucid https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/555828 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 570765] Re: [Lucid] no GRUB menu entry for other operating systems
I think it's not enough. How many newbies will install Lucid and think that their windows has been removed? This is a far more important bug than you seem to think, and asking to run "sudo update-grub" is not quite user friendly... (and we often say that the first feeling is the most important) The best workaround for me (cause there is no way to delay the release) may be to release a dummy/no-change upgrade (grub? kernel?) that will force grub to update. This have to be done now, so the update will be available when people reboot for the first time (and if possible as a security update, so that update-manager pop-up on the screen directly). [Bug 570765] Re: [Lucid] no GRUB menu entry for other operating systems
+1 for Jeff. I do not know how ubiquity work but AFAIK I see 3 solutions here (sort by expected difficulty): - release a 0 day upgrade (dummy if necessary) that will force grub to update → bad because the iso is buggy, the user may be afraid on the first reboot and all users can't update their OS whenever they want. - disable migration-assistant by default (because the bug is likely to came from here and it seems to be buggy anyway, see bugs #536673 and #220064) → bad because this is also a feature for some users... - find and apply a proper fix → may request some time... perhaps number 2 is the less bad in this situation ? -- [Lucid] no GRUB menu entry for other operating systems https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/570765 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 570765] Re: [Lucid] no GRUB menu entry for other operating systems
@Robbie: for me this is a release blocker so if I was allowed to chose, I would delay the release. (and personally I will not be affected by this bug, so I may not be too subjective). I am aware of all the logistics behind the release, but I also think of those potential users that will hate Ubuntu when they will think that it deleted their windows. (be serious, no newbie read release notes, and what will do the one without internet that received his live-cd via ship-it or a loco?) @Colin: these updates are the minimum I think. But, as Jeff and I said, this is definitely not the best solution. ps: a delayed release can be seen as a good point by some companies (active qa...) -- [Lucid] no GRUB menu entry for other operating systems https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/570765 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 351186] Re: [M76] [ubuntu 9.04] [ubuntu 9.10] [ubuntu 10.04] slow unminimizing with ati card and desktop effects enabled
I already proposed B (via a special patched xserver version which should replace current xserver when installing fglrx from repositories). I think it's the easier/better solution: No need to worry about potentials regressions on nvidia, intel or whatever else. The patch is ready NOW, this just need an update to fglrx dependencies and the upload of the 'xserver-fglrx-fix' (or whatever name you prefer). For some packaging hero it's surely possible to build the patched xserver from the main source package along with other xserver packages, so the patched version will always be sync with further xserver updates. So AFAIK we basically need 2 updates. (this is bug 270206 ) But, there is another usability bug in this report: close button should close, open button should open. Well, why all apps BUT rhythmbox just close when I click the close button ? I think this is just inconsistent. There is no problem by default on a vanilla gnome (or on Karmic, Jaunty...). However there is a kind a "workaround": in the status icon plugin settings, select "status icon always visible". This way the close button will just close rhythmbox but, unfortunately, minimizing to tray will not work anymore... I think this is more likely to be a bug in the new "Indicator Applet" but I may be wrong. -- rhythmbox behavior https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/527119 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 351186] Re: [M76] [ubuntu 9.04] [ubuntu 9.10] slow unminimizing with ati card and desktop effects enabled
As I said, this is NOT fixed. The use of fglrx is still necessary for R800+ ATI card and for nearly all laptops powered by ATI because of no power management with the free driver. This bug was filed against fglrx-installer so, please, stop saying that this is fixed. For those who know some ATI guys, are they going to work on this issue? This bug is nearly 1 year old so I'm confident that the answer is "no". As this is an important desktop usability issue, is there a possibility to include a xserver from one of the 2 ppa in, at least, the universe repository? Just name it xserver-fglrx-fix and add it as a dependence to the fglrx-installer. It seems a good solution to me because here we do not patch the default xserver (the one that is shipped by default) so no need to worry about regressions for other users, only fglrx users will install it. Those packages had enough testing and both seem to be equivalent. For the memory lick, I never noticed it (using k0ekk0ek's ppa for more than 6 months) so this is a "small" lick that may not be noticed by most of users I think. And I'm sure that the benefit of a fluid user experience is worth the trouble. -- [M76] [ubuntu 9.04] [ubuntu 9.10] slow unminimizing with ati card and desktop effects enabled https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/351186 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

This is not exactly the fix that I expected... I'm also running Lucid on a laptop and, at least for now, it breaks regularly on upgrades. The best would be to backport the fix to Karmic or to find another workaround. Karmic is still maintained for more than a year. [Bug 477116] Re: nih-dbus-tool: dbus_connection_send_with_reply() returns NULL pending_call even when returning TRUE if connection is not connected
The fact is that we finally succeeded in installing Lucid packages (mountall 1.1 and its dependencies: libnih1 and libnih-dbus1 1.01-1). Indeed, the "infinite error loop" is gone but we now run into an "unable to mount root file system". Ok, so we now have basic command line access without "live-cd + chroot" but nothing more... This new error makes me think that a simple backport may not be sufficient (perhaps some architecture changes between Karmic and Lucid?) I must admit that this is beyond my knowledge. Anyway the computer will be reinstalled soon (it is needed to work). I see two options: * Release a new uwsgi version with a lower dependency on libphp7.0-embed * Migrate the Proposed libphp7.0-embed version to the Release repo. I don't know who can fix this. I'm subscribing the SRU team as this seems to be a bug in the SRU process. I hope it's relevant. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1717378 Title: uwsgi-plugin-php depends on an unreleased version of libphp-embed To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/uwsgi/+bug/1717378/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1221367] [NEW] scroll-method set to "two-finger-scrolling" by default, even if the hardware does not support it
Public bug reported: On an up-to-date Saucy, I'm no longer able to "edge scroll". There is a "Two fingers scroll" box in the Mouse & Touchpad panel. It is checked by default but it is also grayed out (since the hardware does not support multitouch), so I can't disable it. On Raring, the box is still grayed out but it is unchecked by default (edge scrolling was the default). My only solution on Saucy is to install dconf-editor and manually change the value of org.gnome.settings-daemon.peripherals.touchpad.scroll-method. This is not user friendly. Two fingers scrolling is a sane default, but it should fallback to edge scrolling when the touchpad can't support it. [Bug 1214059] [NEW] Wifi and bluetooth disabled at boot and hard to re-enable
Public bug reported: Network Manager says either "Device not ready" or "wireless is disabled by hardware switch" (it depends). Enabling Bluetooth in the control-center just enable it for like half a second and then it's switched off again. I have a combined hardware button for both Wifi and Bluetooth, it's red when it's disabled and blue when enabled. In this case it stays red even when I repeatedly press it (though the Bluetooth setting panel reliably indicate when it is hardware disabled, so I guess the color is only related to software lock). I manage to make it work again after playing with "rfkill [block|unblock] all" and messing around with network manager (disabling network and then re-enabling it...). I usually need around 5 minutes to make it work. I did not have this problem on Raring. I had it on saucy with the 3.10 kernel but it seems to be worse with 3.11 (I need to mess around for more time in order to make it work again). Feel free to ask if you need any additional test. [Bug 1214059] Re: Wifi and bluetooth disabled at boot and hard to re-enable
Yes, it worked fine before Saucy. For example, this laptop is dual-booting with Ubuntu 12.04 (3.2 kernel I think) and I don't have this problem with it. Before Saucy I was testing Raring and it worked fine (so 3.8 kernel). Is there an easy way to install older kernels on Saucy so that we can find out if this is really a kernel regression or rather something user-space related? [Bug 1214059] Re: Wifi and bluetooth disabled at boot and hard to re-enable
3.11.0-* (starting from 3.11.0-0) -> not ok, see bug description 3.10.0-* -> ok but wifi is *sometime* turned off at boot (I have to check "Enable Wifi network" in NM) In this case I see a "RF_KILL bit toggled to disable radio" in dmesg with no visible error. The fact that this is random is quite strange. 3.9.0-* -> work perfectly (Wifi already connected when lightdm appears on screen) So the big thing seems to be with 3.11 (at least >= rc4, which is 3.11.0-0 AFAIK). Now trying to narrow the scope with mainline kernels: v3.11-rc1-saucy -> It works! v3.11-rc2-saucy -> It works! v3.11-rc3-saucy -> It works! v3.11-rc4-saucy -> FAIL So the problem is between rc3 and rc4. Now it's going to be more complicated because this laptop is not suited for building kernels. It will take forever. (I have a more powerful desktop, but it's not running Saucy) Could someone help me find a potential faulty commit in order to speed up the bisecting process? [Bug 253119] Re: PPA packages do not show a changelog in update-manager
As explained here some years ago (and I confirm it is still valid as of update-manager on Xenial), UM already looks for changelog published alongside .deb packages. It's in the "UpdateManager/Core/MyCache.py" file. So, IMHO, the proper fix for this issue would be to make Launchpad/Soyuz publish a changelog file. The proposed approach in TJ's patch is to simply scrap the HTML from the PPA web page. It's fragile at best, but it has the advantage to work and to be an order of magnitude easier to implement than patching Soyuz. So I think we need the advise from Canonical insiders here: I understand this feature may not be on any official roadmap, but Soyuz is a rather hard project to contribute to for an outsider. [Bug 253119] Re: PPA packages do not show a changelog in update-manager
Thanks Colin, I proposed a merge request which implements your suggested approach. However I noticed python3-launchpadlib is not seeded in the default install (at least on Ubuntu Xenial), so I assumed it would not be acceptable to pull this library, along with its dependencies, everywhere just for the sake of PPA changelogs. So I kept the feature optional. One would have to manually install python3-launchpadlib to enable it. Anyway, it works fine for me. [Bug 974976] [NEW] [live session] enable to connect to a password protected network
Public bug reported: Latest daily live. All password protected networks are grayed out in the network-manager indicator. [Bug 970890] [NEW] Translations are not automatically imported from Gnome-user-docs
Public bug reported: Ubuntu-docs is a Gnome-user-docs fork but both projects still share most of their strings. Launchpad should automatically import relevant translations, as it does with other Ubuntu packages. As a temporary workaround, translators can do a manual imports, but this raises an ethical question: by doing so, Gnome translators are not credited for the huge amount of work they provided. Indeed, the "translator-credits" string is handled automatically by Launchpad, so we cannot add upstream credits manually. According to IRC, this a known issue. But I wanted to report this bug so that it is not forgotten. ** Affects: ubuntu-docs (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/970890 Title: Translations are not automatically imported from Gnome-user-docs To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubuntu-docs/+bug/970890/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 975815] Re: Untranslatable strings in the hints screen
There is also a _(" (Press)") for "show launcher", so this is translated too. This is indeed the easy part of this bug, but don't forget the "shortcut::COMPIZ_KEY_OPTION" issue. This is also a problem in English, because it leads to a hint screen with mixed wording (eg. "Ctrl" and "Control" are both used). And the "Alt + key_above_tab" is displayed as "Alt + Oe" in all languages. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/975815 Title: Untranslatable strings in the hints screen To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/unity/+bug/975815/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
