[Bug 1231148] [NEW] FFe: requested for Saucy package because of module build failure
Public bug reported: I am requesting a Freeze exception for the Saucy package, despite the fact I didn't need one the last time this happened during the Raring cycle. I was told this package is not a "core package," and therefore is excluded from the Feature Freeze. I'll be honest, this has been an annoying cycle for me. There was so much I had planned for the Saucy cycle, including gaining uploader rights (since I've been the one maintaining this package for the last many cycles). I've attached the Blueprint detailing the plan for the Saucy cycle. Also, Upstream hasn't released new upstream release since April, and I've been waiting for the relevant patches to pop up for fix build failures. My knowledge with the kernel itself is limited. Also, VMware's git repo hasn't been online for months. I'm requesting this because I've put a good amount of time into my current pending merge proposal (which is linked in this bug report). And I'd rather lose all this work that I've put time into testing (to see if everything works). I am also waiting for said new upstream release, so it can fix the remaining problems with the remaining modules (which are currently blocked from building with DKMS). Ravindra, It is built with "--without-kernel-modules," I had to check the revision changelog, it stayed. Also, I've linked the Saucy branch to this bug, so you can see my previous changes. Another reason I'm still kind of fighting is because the Ubuntu-specific changes made, still might not be compatible with Ubuntu. I uploaded last devel Trusty package to one of my repos, so if I need to, I can make the necessary changes, and move them to the Stable package (as was my plan for this cycle, but the failure to communicate (ignoring the unofficial maintainer of the Ubuntu Package), put that on hold). -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1269985 Title: Revert package back to Devel release To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/open-vm-tools/+bug/1269985/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1269985] Re: Revert package back to Devel release
Dmitry (#8), As you are well aware, Ubuntu uses the bleeding edge kernels, and one of the nice things about devel packages was that, when they were being released on a more frequent rate), the devel releases where more quicker to adapt to the newest (release candidate) kernels. I know stable releases are better (you keep reminding me). But I'm kind of impatient, and I would like to get to stop the module build failures as fast as possible. And like I said, the joy of the devel releases was that I would only have to wait a month (or so) to see if compatibility for X kernel was added (in the devel package). If it was, I could test it, create the merge proposal, and (after approval) wait for the next problem to arise. And since the git repo doesn't updates as I fast I would like to, I can't simply grab fixes (patches) for the broken package. I have to wait from a patch from someone (who's better with the kernel than I am), to fix the problem. I'm gonna stop there before I confuse you more. But before I do, I want to ask two things. 1) How are other Distributions responding when you're asking them to move to the Stable packaging? 2) The file needed for compatibility with 3.12 is VMware own version of the uidgid.h file. I want to wrap up the 3.12 issues before I start tackling the 3.13 stuff.

Dmitry (#9), All the modules are being compiled (except ones that have caused build failures), but only vmxnet and vmhgfs are being installed/used. Speaking of vmxnet, I assume the pcnet32 is recommended over vmxnet. If so, I can just remove vmxnet from the install. [Bug 1269985] Re: Revert package back to Devel release
Dmitry, I don't think we're using the built in-kernel vmblock. That's what's one of the reasons I wanted to keep the Devel package (for the moment) is because I had some specific changes for Ubuntu, that weren't in Debian. Some other ones were removing manpages of modules that have been removed from the package itself (like vmxnet3 or vmmemctl). [Bug 915662] [NEW] calibre cannot convert RAR Archives
Public bug reported: Version: 0.8.34+dfsg-1 I package (or backport (from Debian/Precise) to be more accurate) calibre for use on Oneiric. Someone uses my package, tipped me off on this. I know your preparing to click on the Invalid status, don't. All I do is just package what Debian/Ubuntu has in their repos. Anyways, If you attempt to convert a .rar file containing a .pdf file into EPUB, you will get a Python backtrace, ending with: "OSError: libunrar.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory" I looked into this, there is a part here (http://calibre-ebook.com/download_linux) I want to highlight, in the source install section: "Note that if your distribution does not have a correctly compiled libunrar.so, calibre will not support rar files." I looked inside the 2 unrar packages within the Ubuntu Repos (unrar & unrar-free), neither package has this "libunrar.so" file. In conclusion, Ubuntu (or Debian) doesn't have a proper RAR library. I was directed here: http://www.freshports.org/archivers/libunrar/ I suggest this package be put together and uploaded. So people who download calibre from Ubuntu/Debian repos (not from the site) have the proper RAR support. Think I'm still full of BS, try it yourself, If I'm wrong then mark this bug as invalid. ** Affects: calibre (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Affects: calibre (Debian) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Also affects: calibre (Debian) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/915662 Title: calibre cannot convert RAR Archives To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/calibre/+bug/915662/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Yes, I'm the process of doing new packaging. I'm syncing with Debian (mostly), and I'm using the removed open-vm-source pkg to return open- vm-toolbox to full package status. I didn't know what Debian was going to do with the removed Toolbox GUI, since they're keeping it, I'm going to return it. Expect new packaging by some time around the release of Alpha 2. I just to add the December release to my working branch, test it, and create the proposal for merging (hopefully properly this time). ** Branch linked: lp:~n-muench/ubuntu/precise/open-vm-tools/open-vm- tools-precise.sid-merge-prep1 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/604998 Title: open-vm-tools (CLI tools) recommends gui tools To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/open-vm-tools/+bug/604998/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1088053] [NEW] Kernel needs to provide FIFREEZE/FITHAW ioctl so that open-vm-dkms can build
Public bug reported: Hello, My name is Nate, and I'm responsible for keeping the open-vm-tools package up to date. I am requesting that ioctl (specifically FIFREEZE/FITHAW ioctl) please be compiled into the kernel (if it hasn't already) because vmsync doesn't compile since newer kernel (namely 3.6 and greater). Yes, I know it's depreciated but it need to be done. I'm reporting this now because I've known about this for a month or so because I have a scratch machine and both that and Ubuntu are different environments, and I just installed Raring for the first time. And since Ubuntu's kernel has more stuff that the normal kernel, I wanted to know if the module would compile. Here's part of the info I got: Traceback (most recent call last): File "/usr/share/apport/package-hooks/dkms_packages.py", line 22, in import apport ImportError: No module named apport Error! Build of vmsync.ko failed for: 3.7.0-5-generic (i686) This is coming directly from upstream (http://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detail&aid=3579185&group_id=204462&atid=989708). I can do some of the work from my end (taking out mentions of the vmsync module for dkms from the debian folder, and upload the new config to bzr and wait for approval). But in order for me to upload and mark (my packaging) for approval, I need this to be done please. Obviously, I'm posting this so I also get a bug report number, that I can put in my packaging's changelog ** Affects: open-vm-tools Importance: Unknown Status: Unknown ** Affects: linux (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: Incomplete ** Affects: open-vm-tools (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Assignee: Nate Muench (Mink) (n-muench) Status: In Progress ** Tags: raring ** Bug watch added: SourceForge.net Tracker #3579185 http://sourceforge.net/support/tracker.php?aid=3579185 ** Also affects: linux via http://sourceforge.net/support/tracker.php?aid=3579185 Importance: Unknown Status: Unknown ** No longer affects: linux ** Also affects: open-vm-tools (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Also affects: open-vm-tools via http://sourceforge.net/support/tracker.php?aid=3579185 Importance: Unknown Status: Unknown ** Changed in: open-vm-tools (Ubuntu) Assignee: (unassigned) => Nate Muench (Mink) (n-muench) ** Changed in: open-vm-tools (Ubuntu) Status: New => In Progress -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1088053 Title: Kernel needs to provide FIFREEZE/FITHAW ioctl so that open-vm-dkms can build To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/open-vm-tools/+bug/1088053/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
