[Bug 298804] Re: Hibernate fails on Dell Inspiron 8600 with Intrepid
Just to add to the confusion... I have a Dell Inspiron 9400 which (appears to) Hibernate perfectly well but never Restores - just goes through the normal boot cycle as if I had performed a Shutdown, no errors that I can detect, either during the Hibernate or the Restore phases. It has done this since 8.04. Suspend works just fine. -- Hibernate fails on Dell Inspiron 8600 with Intrepid https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/298804 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 343084] [NEW] [Dell MP061/Inspiron 9400] hibernate/resume failure
Public bug reported: Resumed from hibernate, entering the correct password caused the busy icon to be displayed but the password screen didn't seem to respond... took about 2 minutes before it finally displayed the desktop, along with an error relating to it being unable to find/load the mmc (I'll try to recreate the test to get the exact wording). I had an SD card in the slot with the contents displayed when I tried the hibernate/resume. I tried to unmount the SD card and got an error dialog with no text or buttons. All subsequent attempts to run programs resulted in an error and attempting a shutdown simply did nothing - I eventually had to press and hold the power button. [Bug 343084] Re: [Dell MP061/Inspiron 9400] hibernate/resume failure
Ok, try as I might I cannot reproduce this so far (typical). I've tried with the SD card unmounted/removed before hibernate - resumed fine. SD mounted but no nautilus window open before hibernate - resumed fine. SD mounted and nautilus window open before hibernate (original scenario) - resumed fine. In the last two the desktop icon for the SD card took about 20 seconds to appear and a nautilus auto-browsing window to open; this did not happen on the original occasion - I also recall that the disk was being hammered all the time the password screen was displayed originally (light hard on) but not since. The only difference to the original attempt was that I have the FF window open with the launchpad page displaying this report, I'll keep trying... -- [Dell MP061/Inspiron 9400] hibernate/resume failure https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/343084 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 343084] Re: [Dell MP061/Inspiron 9400] hibernate/resume failure
Bingo, I've got it...! Knew I would in the end. I had overlooked that I had previously tried a suspend/resume before the hibernate (suspend/resume works for me in8.10, hibernate is broken so it's an area of interest in Jaunty). So, to reproduce... Inspiron 9400, 9.04 alpha 6 with all the currently available patches installed but nothing else. Boot and log in Suspend from FUSAl menu Resume with Power button Hibernate with FUSA menu Resume with Power button Notice that something is hammering the hard disk... not even flickering, solid on. You may have to wait before you get the login dialog, seems to be a timing thing about when the PC responds so may also be unrelated to the MMC/SD Card. Either way you will wait a significant time before you get through to a desktop. Once there the desktop appears responsive but nothing actually works/launches - you cannot even log out, shutdown, etc. So what else do you need? You may have to hand-hold a bit so KISS. I've been writing software for years but all in MS, only took the red pill about two years ago. It's a play/testing partition so I can break and reload as much as you want, too -- [Dell MP061/Inspiron 9400] hibernate/resume failure https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/343084 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 343084] Re: [Dell MP061/Inspiron 9400] hibernate/resume failure
Upgraded to 2.6.28-10 (and all other available patches) today and repeated the tests... I had a complete lockup on restore from Suspend - hard disk light solid on, mouse unresponsive, had to power off with power button. Hibernate (not with a suspend beforehand of course) seemed to work perfectly this time. [Bug 536643] Re: Missing dependencies (libmozjs0d)
This bug is a deal breaker for me, forcing me to go back to Karmic on my Media Server. [Bug 298804] Re: Hibernate fails on Dell Inspiron 8600 with Intrepid
I've had hibernate issues since 8.10 too on my Inspiron 9400. Karmic will suspend once and/or hibernate once per boot, then hangs on the next attempt. I would love to test this on Lucid but it won't even boot... the screen gets all garbled at the very start and it just hangs. If I can help I will but currently can't at all with Lucid - any info. I can provide on hardware I'm happy to, but it will have to gathered via 8.10 which is the most reliable on this box. Furthermore, both hibernate and suspend used work on our Mini 9 until some months ago but that stopped too, both operations result in a blank screen and no activity, I have to force the power off - they also do not work in Lucid but at least the thing boots! [Bug 567314] Re: Sleep and Hibernate don't work any more in Ubuntu Lucid Beta 2
I also cannot get Suspend or Hibernate to work on my Dell 9400, in both cases all I get is a blank screen (still powered on) but no response and the laptop is totally unresponsive. Mind you, suspend and hibernate on this have never been good since 8.04 LTS, it's just got gradually worse over time with each release... 8.10 Worked intermittently 9.04 Suspend didn't work, Hibernate worked at first then stopped after a few months (wouldn't resume) 9.10 Didn't resume from hibernate 10.04 Zip, nada, nothing - both just hang. I'm pretty disappointed that this has continued to plague Ubuntu, given that it is so difficult to change laptop components to ones that work. I'm also happy to continue to provide logs or whatever if this can be made to work, I can't afford to replace my laptop ever couple of years but need working suspend and hibernate. [Bug 568275] Re: No JS in 0.12.0~svn2018-6ubuntu2
I know it isn't a perfect solution but, as a temporary workaround and to take the pressure off the developers, I've discovered that there is a statically built version of 0.11.0r2 still available on the sourceforge pages (http://sourceforge.net/projects/mediatomb/files/MediaTomb/0.11.0/) which has js enabled. I'm now using the i386 version and it works. It may be a bit old and not have all the latest bells and whistles, but it works on 10.04 LTS (so I would hope it would work for 10.10). [Bug 1485882] Re: Installation from LiveUSB. Getting annoying Errno 5 message. Install cancelled.
I'm getting this error trying to install LM 17.3 Cinnamon x64 on my main box - I've just replaced the motherboard, cpu, ram (ASRock Z170 Extreme4, i7, 32Gb). The error occurs sometimes during the partitioning, otherwise always immediately after Install pressed - sometimes locks up immediately, sometimes says the installer has crashed then locks up - either way I can get no logs. Tried compatibility mode as well as normal, that generally causes Cinnamon to crash then the installer to lock up. Tried Ubuntu 15.10 x64, same story so it appear to be common to the Ubuntu "family" rather than just LM. Tried different disks, cables, DVDs, checked the .iso md5 hashs, used both USB and DVD to install, with/without networking enabled (saw that somewhere). Going to try without ubiquity-slideshow but really running out of ideas here.
