Upgraded to 2.6.28-10 (and all other available patches) today and repeated the tests...
I had a complete lockup on restore from Suspend - hard disk light solid on, mouse unresponsive, had to power off with power button. Hibernate (not with a suspend beforehand of course) seemed to work perfectly this time.
