[Bug 350722] Re: have to setup pppoeconf everytime on restart
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 344916 *** https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/344916 Im also affected by this bug. Im using an ADSL box in bridge mode. I used pppoeconf to configure my connection (which was successfull). But its broken after each reboot. ifconfig shows the right IP for ppp0 but its not willing to connect to any host on the internet... My system: Ubuntu 9.04 x86, fully updated (fresh install from today). nforce4 motherboard. (forcedeth network driver i believe) This problem is not a crash and not a duplicate of Bug #350722 i think. [Bug 105234] Re: Network manager says disconnected but is connected and working
Im still having this problem in 9.04 too. And on 2 different computers: one based on the nforce4 chip and another "new" asus p5qpro. Both use pppoe to connect to the internet. Weird to see that has not been fixed. I have this bug since 2 years now! Its not really important (only cosmetic) but its something (the disconnect icon) that you see 24/7 when you use your computer! -- Network manager says disconnected but is connected and working https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/105234 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 182473] Re: rtl8187 drops connection
I tried following the guide: Added the wirelessfix.sh Blacklisted rtl8187 Added ndiswrapper to /etc/modules Choose wext and wlan0 I also tried changing the encryption from WPA2/AES to WPA/TKIP but it still doesn't work. When I start up the Wicd tray I see the network and try to connect, the tray icon indicates that it has good connection. Then green bar is filled all the way to the top. But at the bottom of the Wicd window the message changes between: Connected to "NetworkName" at 60 (IP: 192.168.1.40) and Connected to None at 60 (IP: 192.168.1.40) Every couple of seconds The number 60 changes from round 50-60 and 0. And if I start the Wicd tray from a terminal it gets filled with stuff like this: not rec wlan0: 61375 461000 0 0 061748 552000 0 0 0 not trans 310 m| 1 not rec wlan0: 61627 463000 0 0 062000 554000 0 0 0 not rec -- rtl8187 drops connection https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/182473 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1062159] [NEW] Raid is incorrectly determined as DEGRADED preventing boot in 12.04

It's not the rootfs, it's not the swap, it's not /boot. Which is all I need to get my system up and running. The part #2 which you can find as a contributor to the problem is that /dev/md3 is a RAID0 (0 drive tolerance for fault) which includes a device which is initiated in the crypttab (sda2_crypt). So once slice of the /dev/md3 is encrypted. During boot, this is what happens: 1) System mounts the initrd stuff (which has a local derrivation of fstab, mdadm.conf and crypttab). It tries to determine what to do. It determines the system has an encrypted rootfs, and correctly prompt for the password. 2) /dev/mapper/md1_crypt is unlocked from /dev/md1. /dev/md1 is assembled at this point, and operational. 3) The system moves on trying to determine how to assemble the rest of the raids. It reads mdadm.conf (the problem persists even though I remove this file, although then my md3 is named md127). It finds definitions of md0, md1, md2, md3 & md4. It will try to run the stuff from /usr/share/initramfs-tools/hooks/mdadm. 4) /usr/share/initramfs-tools/hooks/mdadm runs before the rest of the encrypted devices are assembled. Which kind of makes sense, as the encrypted devices may actually be on a raid. However, md3 consists of chunks from raw block devices and a device which is derived from the crypttab. The hook utilizes /usr/share/initramfs-tools/scripts/mdadm- functions. md3 : active raid0 dm-2[0] sdc2[2] sdb2[1] sdd2[3] 82075648 blocks super 1.2 1024k chunks Notice the first device. 5) For some reason, even though adding BOOT_DEGRADED=true in /etc/default/mdadm it will ignore this for a degraded RAID0, as it is probably marked as faulty and not degraded? 6) The system halts. Throws me into the initramfs-shell. I got the system successfully booting by "hacking" the mdadm-functions file: --- usr/share/initramfs-tools/scripts/mdadm-functions 2012-02-10 04:04:54.0 +0100 +++ /usr/share/initramfs-tools/scripts/mdadm-functions 2012-10-02 23:55:08.246402544 +0200 @@ -3,8 +3,9 @@ degraded_arrays() { - mdadm --misc --scan --detail --test >/dev/null 2>&1 - return $((! $?)) +# mdadm --misc --scan --detail --test >/dev/null 2>&1 + return 0 +# return $((! $?)) } mountroot_fail() @@ -83,10 +84,11 @@ echo "Started the RAID in degraded mode." return 0 else + mdadm --stop /dev/md3 echo "Could not start the RAID in degraded mode." fi fi fi fi - return 1 + return 0 } So basically I force mdadm-functions to always return 0, and never check for degraded arrays. In addition I make it stop the faulty assembled /dev/md3 which will be re-assembled after the initramfs completes anyhow. This setup was working in 11.04. Lu
[Bug 1062159] Re: Raid is incorrectly determined as DEGRADED preventing boot in 12.04
Potential solution: Make the initramfs scripts completely ignore anything that is not critical for mounting the rootfs and booting the system. It should not even bother with /dev/md3 as it is not associated wih any aspects for successfully come to a login prompt. In this case, only initializing raids required for the successful boot would suffice. Then it would assemble the crypt devices and hand the system over to the init. Which would assemble the rest of the raids successfully and then the rest of the encrypted devices. This is basically what happens in 11.04. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1062159 Title: Raid is incorrectly determined as DEGRADED preventing boot in 12.04 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/mdadm/+bug/1062159/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

OlivierP Jean-Yves is completely correct regarding trademarks. Noone stops you from using the sources under GPL3, but only Jean-Yves can let you use the name "Mail Notification" (assuming it's a valid trademark of course). Though there is of course, a potential iceweasel situation here - i.e. Ubuntu could choose to distribute the patched sources under a new name because of such issues. Jean-Yves - am I right in assuming that your resistance applies mostly to this patch, and not to all patches in general? Or better - what IS the exact trademark license, really? ** Summary changed: - [regression] 2.6.27-6 sometimes fails to boot (iwl3945 issue?) + [regression] 2.6.27-7 sometimes fails to boot (iwl3945 issue?) ** Description changed: - 2.6.27-6 (and -2, -3, -4, and -5) fails to boot on my system (Dell XPS - M1710 laptop). 2.6.27-1 boots fine. + 2.6.27-7 (and -2 through -6) fails to boot on my system (Dell XPS M1710 + laptop). 2.6.27-1 boots fine. I haven't been able to find a boot log, unfortunately. If I watch the boot sequence on vt8, it hangs on setting the system clock (see comments below for examples). And it's a complete hang - Ctrl-Alt-Del does not work, nor Alt-F1 etc. My system is a Core Duo Dell XP M1710 laptop, latest nvidia-177 drivers, iwl3945 wireless. I have had no such boot issues before, and the -1 kernel works fine. The boot hangs regardless of wireless state, but only sometimes (about 50%). A reboot usually resolves the issue. There are reports that holding a key down makes the system boot. That is NOT the case for me at least. Blacklisting iwl3945 or removing the firmware file seems to resolve the boot problem. -- [regression] 2.6.27-7 sometimes fails to boot (iwl3945 issue?) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/263059 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 263059] Re: [regression] 2.6.27-7 sometimes fails to boot (iwl3945 issue?)
Loïc: There are no signs of a crash here. An oops should show up on the console if it were the same bug, correct? It does not. The boot process just stops with no indication of error. And there is no crash of the driver is loaded after boot instead. So I doubt this bug is the same as bug #275227. It's still possible that the fix might still fix this bug though, worth a try. Martin: I get hangs whether I use "quiet usplash" or not. And still on the -7 kernel, which is current. -- [regression] 2.6.27-7 sometimes fails to boot (iwl3945 issue?) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/263059 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 295990] [NEW] Keyboard layout reset after attaching USB keyboard
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-control-center I use a laptop with Ubuntu 8.10, and has configured two keyboard layouts. I use "USA" as the default layout and "Sweden" as an alternative layout, and use for changing layout. 1) Description:Ubuntu 8.10 Release:8.10 2) gnome-control-center: Installed: 1:2.24.0.1-0ubuntu7.1 Candidate: 1:2.24.0.1-0ubuntu7.1 Version table: *** 1:2.24.0.1-0ubuntu7.1 0 500 http://se.archive.ubuntu.com intrepid-updates/main Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status 1:2.24.0.1-0ubuntu7 0 500 http://se.archive.ubuntu.com intrepid/main Packages 3) When I plug in an USB keyboard it should still be possible to change between the default and alternative layout with or using the applet menu. The default and any alternative layout should user configurable, i.e. it should not restore system default values when an USB keyboard is attached. 4) When I plug in an USB keyboard after logging in to Ubuntu, it resets the keyboard layout (and probably other keyboard settings as well) to the system default layout which is stored in /etc/default/console-setup. ** Affects: gnome-control-center (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Keyboard layout reset after attaching USB keyboard https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/295990 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
