[Bug 350722] Re: have to setup pppoeconf everytime on restart

2009-04-24 Thread Mikael
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 344916 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/344916

Im also affected by this bug.
Im using an ADSL box in bridge mode.
I used pppoeconf to configure my connection (which was successfull).
But its broken after each reboot.
ifconfig shows the right IP for ppp0 but its not willing to connect to any host
on the internet...

My system:
Ubuntu 9.04 x86, fully updated (fresh install from today).
nforce4 motherboard. (forcedeth network driver i believe)

This problem is not a crash and not a duplicate of Bug #350722 i think.

Awaiting for info to help you solve this annoying bug.

[Bug 105234] Re: Network manager says disconnected but is connected and working

2009-04-24 Thread Mikael
Im still having this problem in 9.04 too. And on 2 different computers: one
based on the nforce4 chip and another "new" asus p5qpro.
Both use pppoe to connect to the internet.
Weird to see that has not been fixed. I have this bug since 2 years now!
Its not really important (only cosmetic) but its something (the disconnect
icon) that you see 24/7 when you use your computer!

[Bug 182473] Re: rtl8187 drops connection

2008-06-17 Thread Mikael
Vervelover:

I have a WPA2 encrypted network and have been trying to get my Netgear WG111v2
USB stick to work with NDISwrapper in Hardy without success.
Could you post a link to the drivers you used with NDISwrapper and maybe a shot
explanation on how you got it to work?

[Bug 182473] Re: rtl8187 drops connection

2008-06-17 Thread Mikael
I tried following the guide:
Added the wirelessfix.sh
Blacklisted rtl8187
Added ndiswrapper to /etc/modules
Choose wext and wlan0
I also tried changing the encryption from WPA2/AES to WPA/TKIP but it still
doesn't work.

When I start up the Wicd tray I see the network and try to connect, the tray
icon indicates that it has good connection. Then green bar is filled all the
way to the top.
But at the bottom of the Wicd window the message changes between:
Connected to "NetworkName" at 60 (IP: 192.168.1.40)
and
Connected to None at 60 (IP: 192.168.1.40)
Every couple of seconds

The number 60 changes from round 50-60 and 0. And if I start the Wicd tray from
a terminal it gets filled with stuff like this:
not rec
 wlan0:   61375 461000 0  0 061748
552000 0   0  0
not trans

2006-10-29 Thread Mikael
Hi everybody!
I fixed the problem too, but without re-install. I just reconfigured tilda in
console with "tilda -C". I think the crash is because the "keybinding" changed
with the upgrade. The solution for me was configure again the "key" ("None+F12"
in my case...)

Greetings!

Yes, It's with Edgy. I have only tried with the character "ö" and i tried
everything to get it to connect but nothing worked. Then I tried to rename
the network from "björkman" to "bjorkman" and it finally worked. I haven't
tried with other nonlatin characters, don't really know how to use more then
"åäö" as there aren't any other nonlatin characters on my keyboard.

[Bug 1062159] [NEW] Raid is incorrectly determined as DEGRADED preventing boot in 12.04

2012-10-05 Thread Mikael
Public bug reported:

After upgrading from 11.04 to 12.04 in two steps, my server failed to
boot printing:

"Could not start the RAID in degraded mode.", referring to /dev/md/3.
Then dropping to an initramfs-shell.

My RAID setup is the following:

# cat /proc/mdstat
Personalities : [raid6] [raid5] [raid4] [raid1] [linear] [multipath] [raid0]
[raid10]
md3 : active raid0 dm-2[0] sdc2[2] sdb2[1] sdd2[3]
  82075648 blocks super 1.2 1024k chunks

md0 : active raid1 sdf1[1] sde1[0]
  530048 blocks [2/2] [UU]

md4 : active raid5 sdf3[1] sdh3[4] sdg3[2] sde3[0]
  5856021120 blocks super 1.2 level 5, 128k chunk, algorithm 2 [4/4] []

md2 : active raid6 sdh2[3] sdf2[1] sdg2[2] sde2[0]
  1950720 blocks super 1.2 level 6, 512k chunk, algorithm 2 [4/4] []

md1 : active raid5 sda1[0] sdc1[2] sdb1[1] sdd1[3]
  11712000 blocks super 1.2 level 5, 512k chunk, algorithm 2 [4/4] []

The following are my mount points:

# mount
/dev/mapper/md1_crypt on / type ext4 (rw,noatime,errors=remount-ro)
/dev/md0 on /boot type ext4 (rw)
/dev/md3 on /something/else/irrelevant type xfs (rw,discard,discard)

# grep -e md -e mapper -e boot /etc/fstab
/dev/mapper/md1_crypt /   ext4noatime,errors=remount-ro 0
1
UUID=9b199b09-078a-4f88-82dc-a099be4c6a09 /boot   ext4defaults
  0   2
/dev/mapper/md2_crypt noneswapsw  0   0
/dev/mapper/md4_crypt /mnt ext4 noatime,defaults 0 0
/dev/md3 /something/else/irrelevant xfs defaults,discard 0 0

Current crypttab setup:

# cat /etc/crypttab
md1_crypt /dev/md1 none luks,discard
md2_crypt /dev/md2 /dev/urandom cipher=aes-cbc-essiv:sha256,size=256,swap
md3_crypt /dev/md3 /some/key/file cipher=aes-cbc-essiv:sha256,size=256
sda2_crypt /dev/sda2 /some/key/file cipher=aes-cbc-essiv:sha256,size=256,discard
md4_crypt /dev/md4 /some/key/file cipher=aes-cbc-essiv:sha256,size=256

As you can see the first fact is that /dev/md3 should not be relevant
for booting the system. It's not the rootfs, it's not the swap, it's not
/boot. Which is all I need to get my system up and running.

The part #2 which you can find as a contributor to the problem is that
/dev/md3 is a RAID0 (0 drive tolerance for fault) which includes a
device which is initiated in the crypttab (sda2_crypt). So once slice of
the /dev/md3 is encrypted.

During boot, this is what happens:

1) System mounts the initrd stuff (which has a local derrivation of
fstab, mdadm.conf and crypttab). It tries to determine what to do. It
determines the system has an encrypted rootfs, and correctly prompt for
the password.

2) /dev/mapper/md1_crypt is unlocked from /dev/md1. /dev/md1 is
assembled at this point, and operational.

3) The system moves on trying to determine how to assemble the rest of
the raids. It reads mdadm.conf (the problem persists even though I
remove this file, although then my md3 is named md127). It finds
definitions of md0, md1, md2, md3 & md4. It will try to run the stuff
from /usr/share/initramfs-tools/hooks/mdadm.

4) /usr/share/initramfs-tools/hooks/mdadm runs before the rest of the
encrypted devices are assembled. Which kind of makes sense, as the
encrypted devices may actually be on a raid. However, md3 consists of
chunks from raw block devices and a device which is derived from the
crypttab. The hook utilizes /usr/share/initramfs-tools/scripts/mdadm-
functions.

md3 : active raid0 dm-2[0] sdc2[2] sdb2[1] sdd2[3]
  82075648 blocks super 1.2 1024k chunks

Notice the first device.

5) For some reason, even though adding BOOT_DEGRADED=true in
/etc/default/mdadm it will ignore this for a degraded RAID0, as it is
probably marked as faulty and not degraded?

6) The system halts. Throws me into the initramfs-shell.

I got the system successfully booting by "hacking" the mdadm-functions
file:

So basically I force mdadm-functions to always return 0, and never check for
degraded arrays. In addition I make it stop the faulty assembled /dev/md3 which
will be re-assembled after the initramfs completes anyhow.

This setup was working in 11.04.

[Bug 1062159] Re: Raid is incorrectly determined as DEGRADED preventing boot in 12.04

2012-10-05 Thread Mikael
Potential solution:

Make the initramfs scripts completely ignore anything that is not
critical for mounting the rootfs and booting the system. It should not
even bother with /dev/md3 as it is not associated wih any aspects for
successfully come to a login prompt.

In this case, only initializing raids required for the successful boot
would suffice. Then it would assemble the crypt devices and hand the
system over to the init. Which would assemble the rest of the raids
successfully and then the rest of the encrypted devices.

This is basically what happens in 11.04.

[Bug 1174112] Re: qtcreator slow start

2013-05-09 Thread Mikael
I confirm the bug as, qtcreator broke from the 13.04 update.

Reinstalling the package by apt-get purge followed by install did not
work.

Manually installing the latest version 2.70 from the qt-homepage worksed
for me however, given that this is the version supposedly in raring it
seems likely error is configuration related.

[Bug 797318] [NEW] Unable to install on Amilo xa2528

ive tried over the years to install amongst others 9.04 9.10 10.04 and 11.04
from cd
On my amilo xa2528 resulting in the following directly after install or start
respectively

BusyBox 1.1 depening on version etc
(initramfs) Unable to find a medium containing a live file system

ive tried to use a usbstick instead but either the same error or in rare cases
different ones, though i never seem to be able to leave the busybox stage

Dozens of nights of googleing lead me to suspect that others share this
problem though ive never seen a solution or a exact error match, this
forum also contains a similar pair of problems though again not a exact
match and a little old.

on a single occasion ive succeded in using the wubi installer in windows to
install. after which everything worked fine for several months. this leads me
to suspect that the early stage of the installer cannot read the hdd or the
cdrom, the cdrom directory in the busybox console is empty.
wubi installer no longer works though,

I realize that since imagemagick is in main it can't depend on ufraw, and I

[Bug 296099] [NEW] libexpo.so segfault during normal operation

2008-11-09 Thread Mikael Nordfeldth

I was running with the "Extra" visual effects set through Appearance. On
top of this, I had enabled "Rotate Cube" (and thus disabled Desktop
Wall, and enabled Desktop Cube). Like this:

Appearance -> Visual Effects -> Extra
-Desktop Wall
+Desktop Cube
+Rotate Cube

The setup worked with active usage for several hours since boot. I can't seem
to recreate the problem.
I can't remember doing anything out of the ordinary when suddenly all windows
had been collected on the same workspace - and it became clear to me that
compiz had crashed and metacity took its place. (excellent with a fallback!)

Re-enabling the compiz desktop worked straight away after the crash.
Settings (cube stuff) were reset, but that's probably because I did it
using the Visual Effects tab in Appearance.

No, my swedish layout disappears from xkb after plugging in an USB
keyboard. Refer to the setxkbmap output below.

Wanted configuration:
$ setxkbmap -print
xkb_keymap {
xkb_keycodes  { include "evdev+aliases(qwerty)" };
xkb_types { include "complete"  };
xkb_compat{ include "complete+ledcaps(group_lock)"  };
xkb_symbols   { include "pc+us+se:2+inet(evdev)+group(caps_toggle)"
};
xkb_geometry  { include "pc(pc105)" };
};

After plugging in an USB keyboard:
$ setxkbmap -print
xkb_keymap {
xkb_keycodes  { include "evdev+aliases(qwerty)" };
xkb_types { include "complete"  };
xkb_compat{ include "complete+ledcaps(group_lock)"  };
xkb_symbols   { include "pc+us+inet(evdev)+group(caps_toggle)"  };
xkb_geometry  { include "pc(pc105)" };
};

"se:2" is missing above.

And then changing any of the Keyboard Layout Options
$ setxkbmap -print
xkb_keymap {
xkb_keycodes  { include "evdev+aliases(qwerty)" };
xkb_types { include "complete"  };
xkb_compat{ include "complete+ledcaps(group_lock)"  };
xkb_symbols   { include "pc+us+se:2+inet(evdev)+group(caps_toggle)"
};
xkb_geometry  { include "pc(pc105)" };
};

"se:2" is there again.

I still have this problem with my P5GD1 motherboard.
I've tried almost every kernel since my first comment on this bug (~2.6.20
something) as I've been running the development versions of ubuntu. None of
them can successfully power it off.

[Bug 274405] Re: network manager slow to reconnect after suspend/resume

2009-05-24 Thread Mikael Honkala
Implemented the addition of "iwlist scan" as described above. No chance,
reconnect still takes at least half a minute.

Wicd works fine for me, but lacks the state-of-the-art 3G features of
the Network Manager.

If anyone has the time, you could compare syslog entries on wakeup for
both WICD and NM, in case there are some significant differences.

Jean-Yves is completely correct regarding trademarks. Noone stops you
from using the sources under GPL3, but only Jean-Yves can let you use
the name "Mail Notification" (assuming it's a valid trademark of
course).

Though there is of course, a potential iceweasel situation here - i.e.
Ubuntu could choose to distribute the patched sources under a new name
because of such issues.

Jean-Yves - am I right in assuming that your resistance applies mostly
to this patch, and not to all patches in general?

Or better - what IS the exact trademark license, really? Can ubuntu ship
MN with security fixes or not, for example? Where is the limit?

I have more or les identical harware, and just discovered the same issue
(Dell XPS M1710 laptop, same soundcard and same media buttons).

I'd like to add that it worked only a few days ago. The issue is likely
with a relatively new kernel. Assigning to kernel.

I'm the bug reporter. I just tried 2.6.27-1.2, and it hanged.

I can't say for sure whether I ran 2.6.27-1.1 successfully or whether I
was just lucky with -1.2 and never happened to have the hang before I
updated to -2.

Sorry for the misinformation.

[Bug 285970] [NEW] [intrepid] uvesafb requires /dev/mem and /dev/zero

2008-10-19 Thread Mikael Gerdin
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: initramfs-tools

v86d, which is required by uvesafb requires /dev/mem and /dev/zero to be
present early in the initramfs.
Currently they are created by the init-top/usplash script, moving them to the
init-top/framebuffer script seems to solve the mysterious problem of
[ 2.631307] uvesafb: Getting VBE info block failed (eax=0x4f00, err=-2)
[ 2.631471] uvesafb: vbe_init() failed with -22
[ 2.631735] uvesafb: probe of uvesafb.0 failed with error -22
Hopefully this small fix can be applied to intrepid and we can all have a
useful framebuffer console with nice high resolution :)

[Bug 263059] Re: [regression] 2.6.27-7 sometimes fails to boot (iwl3945 issue?)

2008-10-13 Thread Mikael Nilsson
** Summary changed:

- [regression] 2.6.27-6 sometimes fails to boot (iwl3945 issue?)
+ [regression] 2.6.27-7 sometimes fails to boot (iwl3945 issue?)

** Description changed:

- 2.6.27-6 (and -2, -3, -4, and -5) fails to boot on my system (Dell XPS
- M1710 laptop). 2.6.27-1 boots fine.
+ 2.6.27-7 (and -2 through -6) fails to boot on my system (Dell XPS M1710
+ laptop). 2.6.27-1 boots fine.

  I haven't been able to find a boot log, unfortunately. If I watch the
  boot sequence on vt8, it hangs on setting the system clock (see comments
  below for examples). And it's a complete hang - Ctrl-Alt-Del does not
  work, nor Alt-F1 etc.

  My system is a Core Duo Dell XP M1710 laptop, latest nvidia-177 drivers,
  iwl3945 wireless.

  I have had no such boot issues before, and the -1 kernel works fine.

  The boot hangs regardless of wireless state, but only sometimes (about
  50%). A reboot usually resolves the issue.

  There are reports that holding a key down makes the system boot. That is
  NOT the case for me at least.

  Blacklisting iwl3945 or removing the firmware file seems to resolve the
  boot problem.

[Bug 263059] Re: [regression] 2.6.27-7 sometimes fails to boot (iwl3945 issue?)

2008-10-14 Thread Mikael Nilsson
Loïc:

There are no signs of a crash here. An oops should show up on the
console if it were the same bug, correct? It does not. The boot process
just stops with no indication of error. And there is no crash of the
driver is loaded after boot instead. So I doubt this bug is the same as
bug #275227. It's still possible that the fix might still fix this bug
though, worth a try.

Martin: I get hangs whether I use "quiet usplash" or not. And still on
the -7 kernel, which is current.

[Bug 295990] [NEW] Keyboard layout reset after attaching USB keyboard

2008-11-09 Thread Mikael Magnusson
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-control-center

I use a laptop with Ubuntu 8.10, and has configured two keyboard
layouts. I use "USA" as the default layout and "Sweden" as an
alternative layout, and use for changing layout.

1)
Description:Ubuntu 8.10
Release:8.10

2)
gnome-control-center:
  Installed: 1:2.24.0.1-0ubuntu7.1
  Candidate: 1:2.24.0.1-0ubuntu7.1
  Version table:
 *** 1:2.24.0.1-0ubuntu7.1 0

100 /var/lib/dpkg/status
 1:2.24.0.1-0ubuntu7 0
500 http://se.archive.ubuntu.com intrepid/main Packages

3)
When I plug in an USB keyboard it should still be possible to change between
the default and alternative layout with or using the applet menu.
The default and any alternative layout should user configurable, i.e. it should
not restore system default values when an USB keyboard is attached.

4)
When I plug in an USB keyboard after logging in to Ubuntu, it resets the
keyboard layout (and probably other keyboard settings as well) to the system
default layout which is stored in /etc/default/console-setup.

Hello!

Thanks for your help, have tried to restart ubuntu, but that did not.
Unable to drive in the terminal window. Nothing happens is just that it
does not find configure a character.

[Bug 183303] Re: Can't create new wireless network using mac80211 based drivers

2008-07-08 Thread mikael henrikson
To get wireless working in Intrepid try installing
'linux-restricted-modules-common'. Worked for me. I haven't tried the actual
bug issues above yet.

[Bug 235165] Re: vol_id detecting ext3 partition as FAT16, which conflicts with blkid

2008-06-02 Thread Mikael Ståldal
Wouldn't it be a good idea to use the same algorithm for both vol_id and
blkid so that you don't get two different UUIDs for the same partition?

[Bug 152410] Re: Installing PHP doesn't restart Apache2 by default, needs manual restart

2008-07-20 Thread mikael henrikson
some strange behaviour today; computer has been shut off for a few
hours.

http://localhost -> redirects to http://localhost/
http://localhost/ -> ok (no php)
http://localhost/wordpress/ (incl php) -> redirects to
http://127.0.0.1/wordpress/ -> php ok

I'm not sure what is happening but I guess I'm ok with functionality and
I'm sure this could be due to a lot of updates etc. I will re-check in
future clean installs of Intrepid.
