[Bug 210162] Re: gnome-compiz-preferences type mismatch warning

2008-04-20 Thread Michael Abbott
I can confirm this: have just updated to current patches to Hardy Heron.
Selecting System -> Preferences -> GL Desktop from the menu (which seems
to be exactly compiz-gnome-preferences) behaves exactly as described in
the original report.

I have previously seen strange behaviour of the workspace switcher when
switching compiz on: my two rows of workspace boxes get bunched up into
the top half of the switcher window! This time the number of workspaces
didn't change -- but I don't have compiz enabled at the moment...

[Bug 215005] Re: jockey-gtk crashed with AttributeError in enables_composite()

2008-04-11 Thread Michael Abbott
In my case the problem happens as follows:
1. try to change Visual Effects from None to Norma
2. get message "The composite extension is not available"
3. message won't dismiss (clicking ok does nothing)
4. clicking the window close button [x] triggers the crash.

[Bug 173875] Re: k8temp not supported by xsensors 0.50

2010-01-14 Thread Michael Abbott
Very odd. I see exactly the behaviour reported here. I have:

1. Installed xsensors
2. Run `xsensors-detect` and allowed it to update /etc/modules (it has added
it87 and k8temp modules)
3. Rebooted
4. (In case it made any difference) Ran `sensors -s`

It looks as if xsensors has broken relatively recently, there are quite
a lot of messages about this problem. Unfortunately I don't see any way
to reopen the bug.

Further investigation. I'm running Ubuntu 9.10, up to date with
patches.

The following modules were added (in order) by xsensors-detect: it87, k8temp
`lsmod` fails to detect it87, and running `modprobe it87` produces the message:

FATAL: Error inserting it87
(/lib/modules/2.6.31-17-generic/kernel/drivers/hwmon/it87.ko): Device or
resource busy

Running `sensors` only reports two sensors, acpitz-virtual-0 and k8temp-
pci-00c3

Finally, running `xsensors` produces the error message
Sensor 'k8temp' not supported by xsensors!
and an empty window titled "xsensors 0.50".

Hmm. It looks like this must be bug #73405, allegedly fixed (presumably
upstream, as yet...)

[Bug 371618] Re: evince does not calculate total sum in application form

2017-03-19 Thread Michael Abbott
In case a persuasive use case for this functionality were needed, here
is a UK government form that makes use of calculated fields:
https://www.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/459092/IHT205_2011_.pdf
(Inheritance Tax: return of Estate Information IHT205).

I agree that the execution of JavaScript should be optional, and indeed
should be turned off by default ... but alas I see there isn't any way
to turn it on at present.

Interestingly, there appears to be no alternative to using Windows (or
maybe OSX?) for filling in a PDF form if the calculated fields are
mandatory, at least I've not found *anything* after quite a bit of
searching. In my case I'll write the computed values in by hand.
