[Bug 269253] Re: ath5k with AR5424 fails at startup or resume

2008-12-09 Thread Matt Lavin
The current version of linux-backports-modules is definitely not an
improvement. When I use wireless with that version, I regularly see
complete machine lockups.

[Bug 269253] Re: ath5k with AR5424 fails at startup or resume

2008-11-26 Thread Matt Lavin
Things have certainly improved with the linux-backports-modules, but I
still see regular "noise floor calibration timeout" followed by the card
becoming unresponsive. I've switched back to the madwifi drivers for
now. I looked at the git changes for the wireless-testing branch and it
seems like that problem is fixed in the 'master-2008-11-17' tagged tree.
Is there a chance that the linux-backports-modules would step up to that
level of the wireless drivers?

2008-11-26 Thread Matt Lavin
Ignore my question about the updated linux-backports-modules. I see
that a version with 'master-2008-11-17' level wireless drivers is
sitting in the proposed state now. I'll install that and see how it
goes.

[Bug 246800] Re: no sound on intrepid

2008-10-02 Thread Matt Lavin
For what it's worth, I'm on a T60p and also experienced the no-sound
issue. I manually killed the 'pulseaudio' daemon and my ALSA
applications could make sound again. That leads me to believe that it
is a configuration issue, not a kernel issue.

[Bug 317955] Re: gnome-settings-daemon crashed with SIGSEGV in gnome_rr_config_match()

2009-01-17 Thread Matt Lavin
I found that my gnome-settings-daemon crashed on startup when I had my
old ~/.config/monitor.xml file in place. When I renamed
~/.config/monitor.xml to ~/.config/monitor.xml-old and restarted the
daemon it started without a problem. My monitor.xml file had two
monitors in it, perhaps because I sometimes use a docking station with
my laptop, but it was not connected when I was experiencing the crash.

[Bug 135822] F-spot preview encounters a fatal error

2007-08-30 Thread Matt Lavin
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-screensaver

While looking through he screensaver theme options, I selected the
'F-Spot photos' theme for a preview. When I did, I got the following
fatal error in a dialog

An unhandled exception was thrown: no such table: tags

I haven't ever used F-Spot on the computer, so I don't have any pictures
(or tags) in F-Spot. Instead of a very technical error dialog being
show, perhaps a nice 'You have no pictures/tags in your F-Spot library'
would be better.

Yes, you are right about the .kdb extension.

About your suggestion. That is exactly what I did when I found the
problem originally. The reason I opened the bug was because I had to
follow the steps you just described, it didn't just work right the first
time (when other applications seem to).

2009-09-23 Thread Matt Lavin
I have been using Compiz on my laptop with an nvidia card for a while,
but after an upgrade a couple of weeks ago I get this failure everytime
I try to enable it.

Is there anything I can do to help debug the problem?

[Bug 452059] Re: brasero crashed with SIGSEGV in g_main_context_dispatch()

2010-03-10 Thread Matt Lavin
I just hit this bug today. The description is perfectly accurate. It
crashed (twice) before I installed gstreamer ugly, and once I installed
it there was no problem.

I would agree that this bug shouldn't be considered major since there is
such an easy workaround (install ugly), but it's definitely not an
incomplete/invalid bug report. The problem is reproduceable just as
described. Can we re-open the bug so that it can get looked at?

[Bug 1047362] [NEW] Allow specifying an existing ovpn file instead of using the GUI for options

2012-09-07 Thread Matt Lavin
Public bug reported:

Like others in bug #364101, I have a .ovpn file that I can use to
connect with the openvpn CLI, but I would prefer to use the GUI to
manage my VPN connections. Rather than try to add support for every
configuration option into the GUI, could the ability to use an existing
.ovpn file be added instead?

If the openvpn client adds more features, they could be used immediately
without waiting for a GUI update and people with working .ovpn files
could easily use the GUI to manage their connections.

[Bug 620113] Re: hamster is always using 1% of the CPU

2010-09-03 Thread Matt Lavin
I reported this same problem directly to the hamster project, and it
turns out that this problem was fixed in a 2.30.2 that has not been
adopted by Ubuntu yet. The hamster bug is
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=615338.

How can we get the hamster package updated in Ubuntu?
