[Bug 231623] [NEW] Package installation fails at mkdir

2008-05-18 Thread Matt H
Public bug reported:

Tried installing the mixmaster package, installation failed using the
following error

mkdir: cannot create directory `/var/lib/mixmaster/Mix': No such file or
directory

The problem was that /var/lib/mixmaster/Mix could be created as
/var/lib/mixmaster did not yet exist. I manually created
/var/lib/mixmaster and then the installation was able to complete.

The package should create /var/lib/mixmaster during install.

[Bug 231641] [NEW] Request: 'Recently installed/changed' in custom filters

2008-05-18 Thread Matt H
Public bug reported:

It would be helpful if synaptic had a 'recently installed' or 'recently
changed' filter showing packages that have been installed / removed in
the last week / month.

These data could be gathered from /var/log/apt/term.log

Example usage
Alice installed some software two days ago but can't remember its name. She
can't find anything new in the menu. Checking 'recently installed' in synaptic,
she quickly finds it, and checks what command she needs to run it.

Bob removed some packages he didn't think he needed, but now his
bluetooth won't work. With 'recently changed' he can reinstall them.

[Bug 52878] Re: Tracker/Beagle are installed but the Places - Search menu is not updated

2008-05-25 Thread Matt H
I believe the following key is meant to implement this functionality
/desktop/gnome/applications/main-menu/search_command

[Bug 213949] [NEW] system-config-samba does not create /etc/libuser.conf

2008-04-08 Thread Matt H
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: system-config-samba

After installing system-config-samba it would crash on startup.

Running in terminal revealed
SystemError: could not open configuration file `/etc/libuser.conf': No such
file or directory

Installing libuser did not change this, so I then tried touching
/etc/libuser.conf which solved the problem.

Description:Ubuntu hardy (development branch)
Release:8.04

Solution would be for the package system-config-samba to depend on
libuser and for the file in /etc to be create on install.

[Bug 214637] [NEW] gstreamer-properties does not affect music audio sink

2008-04-09 Thread Matt H
Public bug reported:

On upgrading to hardy, I ran multimedia systems selector (gstreamer-
properties) to make use of pulseaudio. I changed audio default output
from ALSA to PulseAudio sound server

However, I found that playing music in rhythmbox or totem prevented
further sounds from playing, and any sound playing prevented rhythmbox
or totem from playing. On further inspection, these applications were
still using alsa and not pulseaudio.

I checked in gconf and while in /system/gstreamer/0.10/default/ the
key named audiosink had been changed to pulsesink, a key named
musicaudiosink was left on alsasink. On changing this to pulsesink the
problem was fixed.

gstreamer-properties should be fixed to change both keys, before the

pulseaudio in the release notes will try pulseaudio to find it

[Bug 221878] Re: [Hardy] annoying and useless prompts

2008-04-25 Thread Matt H
If both pubkeyauthentication and passwordauthentication are enabled on
the remote server , the ssh client will attempt the more secure method
first. If you do not want this, disable pubkey authentication in your
ssh client config and then pubkey authentication will be tried only if
you enable it at the command line.

Remove the package ssh-askpass-gnome and you will be prompted at the
terminal rather than in gnome.

I am unable to reproduce your problem. I set my server to have both
pubkey authentication and password authentication enabled. On attempting
to connect from afar, my key password was asked for if and only if my
public key was authorized on the server.

What is in your sshd and ssh config?

[Bug 221912] [NEW] telinit 1 hangs if package kvm installed

I run hardy 64 bit

Yesterday I tried twice to go down to runlevel 1, by the command telinit 1
(I have upstart)
but things hung at the console.
The first few services shut down correctly, but about the time of killing
processes a screen full of messages came up.
I tried again after, and experienced the same problem.

One of the messages mentioned kvm, so i removed that package. telinit 1 then
