Public bug reported: On upgrading to hardy, I ran multimedia systems selector (gstreamer- properties) to make use of pulseaudio. I changed audio default output from ALSA to PulseAudio sound server
However, I found that playing music in rhythmbox or totem prevented further sounds from playing, and any sound playing prevented rhythmbox or totem from playing. On further inspection, these applications were still using alsa and not pulseaudio. I checked in gconf and while in /system/gstreamer/0.10/default/ the key named audiosink had been changed to pulsesink, a key named musicaudiosink was left on alsasink. On changing this to pulsesink the problem was fixed. gstreamer-properties should be fixed to change both keys, before the release of hardy when many existing users who upgrade and read about pulseaudio in the release notes will try pulseaudio to find it dysfunctional. ** Affects: gstreamer0.10 (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Affects: pulseaudio (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: gstreamer hardy pulseaudio ** Changed in: gstreamer0.10 (Ubuntu) Sourcepackagename: None => gstreamer0.10 ** Also affects: pulseaudio (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags added: gstreamer hardy pulseaudio ** Description changed: On upgrading to hardy, I ran multimedia systems selector (gstreamer- properties) to make use of pulseaudio.
