Just installed on Jaunty Jackalope. It did not install a shortcut ;
also, typing krecipes from the terminal just causes a crash.

I appreciate what you are saying Simon, but a request to have the Karmic
Koala fix backported to to the current version is exactly what I did, or
at least thought I did following your links and instructions.

[Bug 153870] Re: Crash in locate

2008-07-28 Thread Marlin Forbes
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 134213 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/134213

This is a duplicate of 2 other bugs, and the upstream Debian bug tracker
has a patch attached which fixes a confirmed double-free memory
allocation error.

I'm not sure of how the procedures here are supposed to work, but if
upstream has confirmed the bug, why are you asking for backtraces on
Ubuntu?

Also, shouldn't activity be happening on the original non-duplicate bug
report, instead of here?

[Bug 282326] Re: Power Manager plugin prevents Suspend when not playing music

2009-02-25 Thread Marlin Forbes
The player thinks it's still playing once it reaches the end of a
playlist. Evince of this is the pushed in state of the play button. I'm
on the latest Intrepid-proposed release. Changing the state to not
playing when the playlist ends shoudl go some way to solving the issue.

Another option (the better one) is to have an option in setting
somewhere where we can decide if we want suspension to be stopped if the
player is playing.

Most of the time, I don't care if the music's playing and want it to
suspend.

I second this wish. In our country running multiple internet connections is
useful since we are capped on international access, but have cheap local

It should be a simple thing to add the WLAN interfaces into the drop down list

[Bug 205098] Re: Tracker doesn't pause when "Pause all indexing" is checked in the tray icon menu

2008-07-16 Thread Marlin Forbes
I also experience the same problem with pausing. I am running Hardy
Heron, with tracker 0.6.6-0ubuntu3.8.04.1 installed. Right clicking on
the tray icon and selecting 'Pause all indexing' indicates in the
tooltip that it is paused, but running top reveals that the process is
still consuming 100% of CPU. And oddly, even though it is set at +19
nice value, it doesn't seem to pause during system activity. This might
be an issue with scheduling at a lower level.

I have it currently set to automatically pause when there is system
activity. Again, the icon indicates that something is paused, but the
process continues unabated, even when I'm doing other things.

2008-07-17 Thread Marlin Forbes
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 21678 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/21678

The duplicate deals with logging out and in, this one is for waking up
from suspend.

I have this issue, on an up-to-date Hardy distribution. When waking from
suspend, the netstatus icon shows no activity when using the network.
The only way to fix it is to go into properties, select a different
interface, then re-select the original one, and it works.

The gnome-netstatus applet is at version 2.12.1-1ubuntu1 .

2009-04-08 Thread Marlin Forbes
I think I know what happened. If I'm correct then the coherence files
were moved from totem-plugins to totem-plugins-extra. During the upgrade
process, the old totem-plugins was still installed when it tried to
upgrade/install totem-plugins-extra. Then when I run the upgrade again,
the old totem-plugins has already been upgraded, so the references to
coherence were gone and there's no conflict when it retries totem-
plugins-extra.

The fix is to upgrade the totem-plugins before totem-plugins-extra.

[Bug 411691] Re: many Exception... "update.locale file doesn't exist" in console

2009-08-15 Thread Marlin Forbes
The linked thread from the Debian bug report says to simply touch the
missing file:

http://groups.google.com/group/mozilla.feedback.firefox/browse_thread/thread/cc67945318eafad3/2c3b310cf1cb3f97?lnk=raot

I assume that Thunderbird is using the same Gecko/Mozilla rendering
code, hence the same error in different packages.

[Bug 132886] popularity-contest cron job fails with permission denied

2007-08-16 Thread Marlin Forbes
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: popularity-contest

Hi,

I'm running Feisty with version 1.39ubuntu5 or popularity-contest.

/etc/cron.weekly/popularity-contest runs the popularity-contest script
as user 'nobody', I assume to avoid passing any dangerous environment
variable information to the server.

The problem is that user nobody cannot access anything in /usr/sbin,
which is where popularity-contest resides.

As a result, the script fails with:

/etc/cron.weekly/popularity-contest:
sh: /usr/sbin/popularity-contest: Permission denied

I'd imagine the simplest solution would be to move the executable
popularity-contest to /usr/bin since it will be run by user 'nobody';
and then ensure that all references to it in scripts are updated to
point to the new location.

M.

[Bug 232402] Re: xulrunner 1.9 support for chmsee 1.0.0

2010-05-20 Thread Marlin Forbes
I'm having similar problems with starting thunderbird, which emits
warnings about not finding libxul.so. I solved the issue by adding a
file /etc/ld.so.conf.d/xulrunner.conf with the folder for the latest
xulrunner:

/usr/lib/xulrunner-1.9.2.3

This solved my problem with ThunderBird 3.0.4.

Perhaps the xulrunner .deb can create this file on installation?

[Bug 442874] [NEW] Dragging an email to Today Pane should make appointment on that day

2009-10-05 Thread Marlin Forbes
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: thunderbird

When dragging an e-mail to the Today Pane, the date of the appointment
created should match the date the e-mail is dropped onto.

For example, the default view of the pane, has 3 dropdowns, Today,
Tomorrow, and Soon.

If I drop the e-mail on Today, I expect it to create it today (which it does).
For tomorrow, I want it to create the appointment tomorrow (same time as now).

If I navigate through the dates in the Today Pane, the date for
appointments created should change to the appropriate date being
displayed.

This is definitely more intuitive and supports the POLS.

[Bug 442896] [NEW] 'Places' pane and bookmarks only allows folders, not documents

2009-10-05 Thread Marlin Forbes
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

It would be intuitive if Nautilus supported putting shortcuts to files
as well as folders in the Places pane (and by reflection, the Bookmarks
menu). Currently, only folders can be put there. Also, the management of
those folders is pretty primitive. Only 1 level or bookmarks is my
biggest complaint.

[Bug 1600513] [NEW] Depend on libnss-sss and libpam-sss

2016-07-09 Thread Marlin Cremers
Public bug reported:

Currently libnss-sss and libpam-sss are marked as recommended on the
sssd-common package. This however causes issues on systems that have
installing recommended packages turned off (which I noticed was enabled
on a VPS).

The fact that those libaries are not installed means that the client
install is not able to get a working setup running. It would probably be
best if freeipa-client had a dependency on libnss-sss and libpam-nss as
they're essentially necessary to get a working setup.

[Bug 1584716] [NEW] Text corruption in various Gnome apps since Xenial upgrade

2016-05-23 Thread Marlin Forbes
Public bug reported:

Description:Ubuntu 16.04 LTS
Release:16.04

Since the Ubuntu Xenial upgrade, I've had various instances of text
corruption. I use a gnome-shell session. I (think) see this only if the
laptop has suspended and restored.

I'm using the intel graphics driver from ppa:oibaf/graphics-drivers (in
a failed attempt to try and upgrade myself out of the issue), but it was
happening before changing to a custom PPA.

This affects such a wide array of parts of the desktop that I suspect
it's likely to be a basic X11 driver or GTK-level bug.

Screenshots attached.

** Affects: gnome-desktop (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

[Bug 1584716] Re: Text corruption in various Gnome apps since Xenial upgrade

2016-05-24 Thread Marlin Forbes
I've been running that environment variable hack for a day now, and I'm
still experiencing similar issues. Right now, all the text in the gnome-
shell is gone. Window title bars, all the text in the gnome shell dash.
Added attachment. I can't see the letters I type or the results that
come up. It looks like I've run out of text resources or something at a
very basic level.

[Bug 1542358] [NEW] GRUB does not include ZFS modules in EFI partition

2016-02-05 Thread Marlin Cremers
Public bug reported:

The small GRUB installation in the EFI partition that points to the
actual GRUB installation on the installed OS doesn't appear to include
the ZFS modules. This causes issues when booting because it can not load
the actual GRUB config from the OS installation.

For now I've worked around this by including all the contents of
/boot/grub in /boot/efi/EFI/ubuntu-16.04/grub. I then changed the
/boot/efi/EFI/ubuntu-16.04/grub.cfg to point to that directory and its
content instead of the config on my ZFS pool.

2016-02-05 Thread Marlin Cremers
I'm not sure why but running

cd ~/Music
find . -exec touch '{}' \;

As suggested by https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1209574#c3
does appear to fix the issue.

[Bug 1542629] Re: Session crashes when second monitor is connected

2016-02-10 Thread Marlin Cremers
I've attached a log of me starting a completely clean environment
(removed dconf config directory and monitors.xml) with the second
monitor unplugged. Then attaching the monitor (which worked fine). Then
I tried to move the second monitor to the left of my laptop screen and
got two errors which I'll attach below. Applying the config appeared to
work just fine. Then I unplugged the second monitor which worked fine as
well. When I then reattached the second monitor the X server segfaulted
as can be seen in the log.

[Bug 1527727] Re: grub-probe for zfs assumes all devices prefix with /dev, ignoring /dev/disk/...

2016-02-16 Thread Marlin Cremers
The idea behind the short name is readability and simplicity. The
recommended way to set up a zpool is to use partitions using device
labels that allow you to identify devices in the chassis. Adding the
full device name would add a lot of unnecessary clutter in the UI.

I kind of support the idea for a machine-readable flag but it might be
better a improve zdb rather than the zpool command.

[Bug 2052137] Re: bonded link goes down on reconfigure

Would it be possible to backport this to 22.04 as well? We are currently
using very hacky workarounds with Netplan.io and networkctl to prevent
this bug from being triggered and causing downtime.
