I also experience the same problem with pausing. I am running Hardy
Heron, with tracker 0.6.6-0ubuntu3.8.04.1 installed. Right clicking on
the tray icon and selecting 'Pause all indexing' indicates in the
tooltip that it is paused, but running top reveals that the process is
still consuming 100% of CPU. And oddly, even though it is set at +19
nice value, it doesn't seem to pause during system activity. This might
be an issue with scheduling at a lower level.

I have it currently set to automatically pause when there is system
activity. Again, the icon indicates that something is paused, but the
process continues unabated, even when I'm doing other things.
