I agree.

The Firefox key behaviour is NOT the standard Linux editing behaviour,
and my FF acts exactly as Alessandro decribed.

I just re-installed from scratch Kubuntu Feisty Fawn 7.04 Beta, which

F-Spot refuse to run, this is the output:

Adding the -b/-basedir option, F-Spot lauches with no problem.

[Bug 1848692] Re: Rygel autostarts on Ubuntu 19.10

2019-11-02 Thread Marco Aicardi
The same problem reported by Fabzgy applies to me, too: after I have
installed 19.10 at home and upgraded to 19.10 at work, all my
photos/videos were exposed without any kind of auth request both in my
home network and ALL the company network.

It took me hours to identify which process was leaking my data then I
discovered it was rygel which I have never installed.

It has been a great PITA. This is the first time in 15 years that I am
indignant by Ubuntu.

[Bug 1573120] Re: VGA monitor goes to sleep randomly in 16.04

2016-05-09 Thread Marco Aicardi
I have done a fresh Ubuntu 16.04 install and then I have installaed the
mainline kernel suggested, i.e. 4.6.0-040600rc6-generic.

I have tested all day long the machine and it seems there is no random
monitor shut-down anymore, nor "[drm:intel_cpu_fifo_underrun_irq_handler
[i915]] *ERROR*" in the kernel log.

It seems this problem has somehow been fixed.

Will update in case of new problems.

Thanks for your help.

I'll do the test you asked, thanks for the suggestion.

I've installed Ubuntu 15.04 (at the moment running kernel
4.2.0-35-generic) and this bug was NOT present; there seems there is
some kind of regression.

Will go on with investigation with mainline kernel and update.

[Bug 1573120] [NEW] VGA monitor goes to sleep randomly in 16.04

2016-04-21 Thread Marco Aicardi
Public bug reported:

Without any clear correlation to events, the VGA output of my NUC5i3RYH
goes to sleep, while the other output (HDMI) has no problem.

The running system is Ubuntu MATE 16.04 amd64 with kernel
4.4.0-21.37-generic 4.4.6

The NUC5i3RYH has an onboard HD Intel 5500.

It does NOT happen in 14.04 nor in 15.10.

The monitor can be waken up again with xrandr with this script:

### Switch off DP1 = VGA
xrandr --output HDMI1 --mode 1280x1024 --output DP1 --off

sleep 1

### Turns it on again
xrandr --output HDMI1 --mode 1280x1024 --output DP1 --mode 1280x1024 --auto
--right-of HDMI1 --primary

The only info I found is in kern.log:

[80299.466886] [drm:intel_cpu_fifo_underrun_irq_handler [i915]] *ERROR*
CPU pipe A FIFO underrun

No info in Xorg.log

Will someone please help?

Thanks.

Marco

[Bug 654447] [NEW] [Maverick] EIDE hard-disk not listed in the installer

2010-10-04 Thread Marco Aicardi
Public bug reported:

Trying to install Maverick Meerkat rc desktop-amd64 or alternate-amd64,
an EIDE hard-disk (where Lucid Lynx was installed before) is *not*
listed in the installer, both live desktop GUI and alternate text-based.

The hard-disk is correctly listed /dev/sdb if I run the "fdisk -l"
program but the installer list only /dev/sda (16GB USB flash drive) and
/dev/sdc (6TB RAID5 on 3ware controller).

This happen with both the desktop install and the alternate install.

I cannot file this bug on both debian-installer *and* ubiquity so I have
to choose "I don't know"

[Bug 1003297] Re: Networking and ACPI conflicts

2014-02-17 Thread Marco Aicardi
As stated elsewhere
(http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2020571&page=2), it seems
there is a bug between forcedeth and AM3+ CPUs.

I have this conflict with Ubuntu 13.10 and it's solved by removing
forcedeth and reloading with "modprobe forcedeth msi=0 msix=0".

Please reopen this bug.

[Bug 1281930] [NEW] nVidia on board network card with forcedeth driver freezes systems on AM3+ CPU

2014-02-18 Thread Marco Aicardi
Public bug reported:

I have a Ubuntu 13.10 amd64 system with a nVidia Force3 mainboard with
nVidia forcedeth-driver network card running on a Phenom X4 965
processor.

The network is completely 1000mbps wired and the main server is a HP
Proliant microserver running Ubuntu 13.10 amd64.

When the network transfer at 1000mbps, the system becomes unresponsive,
and usually freezes for a long time; even sound and mouse freeze.

When the data trasmissione is ended, the system starts running smoothly
again.

Googling around I found that there was a workaround for similar network
problems regarding AM3+ CPUs on nForce mainboards, and the problem
seemed related to a a problem between forcedeth and ACPI.

The workarounds that suggest removing forcedeth module at start-up and
reloading with "modprobe forcedeth msi=0 msix=0" seem to work on my
system and I have not had freezes again.

I attach debug info requested by penalvch.

[Bug 1281930] Re: 10de:0760 [Asus M3N78-VM] nVidia on board network card with forcedeth driver freezes system

2014-02-19 Thread Marco Aicardi
I've never upgraded the BIOS as ASUS report no bug fix in such upgrade
but only new CPU support.

However I'll upgrade the BIOS and report back.

Thanks.

[Bug 1281930] Re: 10de:0760 [Asus M3N78-VM] nVidia on board network card with forcedeth driver freezes system

2014-02-21 Thread Marco Aicardi
I have upgraded the BIOS and it was a BIG issue...

Ubuntu 13.10 never found the network card again; no way of reloading the
forcedeth driver, no solution.

I had to completely reinstall the O/S (this time I installed Mint) and I
am currently testing it.

At the moment I am doing a dist-upgrade, but with my "fast" 640kbps
connection it will take many hours.

[Bug 1244176] Re: Server 13.10 Install Fails with USB Keyboard (Appears to Hang)

2015-09-14 Thread Marco Aicardi
For what I can experience, this bug is STILL PRESENT, both in Ubuntu
Server 14.04.3 AMD64 and in Ubuntu Server 15.04 AMD64.

I tried this both on a HP Micro Proliant N56L (dualcore AMD 64 based)
and Asus M3N78-VM AM2/AM3 mobo.

Each of these 2 distributions have been tested on each of the 2 PCs with
both a Logitech MK710 and a Logitech K400r keyboards.

I have tested bootable USB drives prepared with: usb-creator-gtk,
unetbootin and dd.

All of these tests FAILED at the Language selection; I suceed in passing
the first menu selection, I choose "Install Ubuntu Server", and it all
freezes due to "missing" keyboard on the Language selection menù.

There is no way even of changing to other virtual TTY (ctrl-alt-f2,
etc.) nor reboot with ctrl-alt-del.

Why sdb is *not* offered by the installer or recognized by partman?

In /dev/disk/by-id the Maxtor 6B200P0 drive is listed as "SATA" but it's
an EIDE drive.

[Bug 654447] Re: [Maverick] EIDE hard-disk not listed in the installer

2010-10-05 Thread Marco Aicardi
I've run the alternate installer directly from a mastered CD-ROM and not
from a bootable USB flash drive.

With the CD-ROM the Maxtor HD is successfully recognized and I managed
to install Maverick on it.

It's very strange that the SAME ISO ran from a USB flash drive do not
find the Maxtor HD!

In a few minutes I'll reboot and try the parted_devices and dmraid
commands.
