[Bug 333748] Re: [G45] reproducible Xorg crash running glean/makeCurrent (EXA and UXA)
I'm having a similar issue, but I'm not using the Intel Driver...rather the nVidia driver with an nVidia card. I've filed the bug here: https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/333040 I am not sure if they are related or not. Re: [Bug 290529] Re: livecd won't load. installation hangs.
It would appear as though this issue was related to my hardware video card...at least for 8.10 and 9.04 alpha 5. Both would go through the whole installation process, but choke on boot. But when I removed the card, both booted after installation to the cmd prompt. I'd like to note that I was able to upgrade to 8.10 through 8.04 without an issue, it was only a fresh install. I'll try the alpha 5 desktop live cd both with and without the card this weekend if not sooner. Re: [Bug 333040] Re: -nv reports it does not support GeForce 9100M G
Yes, I was using the nvidia driver because I had installed it within Intrepid. I upgrade to Jaunty from Intrepid, so it kept the driver. I remember when installing Intrepid, it installed without the proprietary driver. Isn't there a way to supress the exisitng driver during the upgrade process? [Bug 290529] Re: livecd won't load. installation hangs.
I am using the final release candidate of Intrepid for Desktops. It works fine on my laptop, but fails loading on my desktop. I've tried both the LiveCD and a USB image created using the Intrepid tool which I created on the laptop. Hardy is running fine on the desktop without any issues other than the basic things I've broken. That's why I wanted to do a fresh install. I ran the memory test and the computer passed. After walking away and letting it just load, I tried going into to the LiveCD mode instead of installing. The error that I ended up getting, which I think might help, is init:/etc/event.d/tty1:1: Unknown stanza init:/etc/event.d/tty2:1: Unknown stanza init:/etc/event.d/tty3:1: Unknown stanza init:/etc/event.d/tty4:1: Unknown stanza init:/etc/event.d/tty6:1: Unknown stanza * Preparing restricted drivers [OK] *Setting the system clock * Starting basic networking [OK] * Starting kernel event manager [OK] * Loading hardware drivers udevd-event[5499]: run_program: '/sbin/modprobe' abnormal exit udevd-event[5501]: run_program: '/sbin/modprobe' abnormal exit [Fail] Unfortunately, I don't have a digital camera so I can't take a screen pic of the installation screen. Re: [Bug 333040] Re: -nv reports it does not support GeForce 9100M G
I ran the live version of Alpha 6 and it ran on this same machine without an issue. Isn't there some way, and I'm sure this has been discussed, that upon upgrading, that the proprietary drivers are checked for compatibilty, and if they fail, an error comes up saying that the driver is being turned off? I don't know how hard it would be, but based on all these errors with the new Xorg, I would think this would be something common sense to add. Re: [Bug 333040] Re: -nv reports it does not support GeForce 9100M G
I think you hit on it that it might be a migration scripting issue. When I was on intepid, I was using the restricted nvida driver (do not remember which one), not -nv and 3D was working perfectly. The problem appears to have been that when I performed the dist-grade, it might have reverted back to the -nv driver; not my intention at all. I will try what you suggested when I get home, but why would it do that instead of keeping the driver? Is that by design as well? Re: [Bug 333040] Re: -nv reports it does not support GeForce 9100M G
If it can be avoided, I would prefer not reinstalling the whole distro. It is dual booting with vista, sharing a data partition. Essentially what would be the best, quickest, easiest, and least time consuming process to get back up and running AND help get a fix so this doesn't happen to other people who upgrade to the beta or release candidate. Please know that this is the server version, not the generic. So it actually required me to use: vmlinuz-2.6.28-11-server instead. not sure if that makes a difference, or if it is the kernel itself. [Bug 333040] Re: -nv reports it does not support GeForce 9100M G
Good news, and so-so news. It would seem as though you were right that installing the restricted driver would solve. this. As root, I followed the instructions here: http://ubuntuforums.org/archive/index.php/t-965741.html sudo apt-get install envyng-gtk And install the first one that comes up. I am now staring at my GNOME interface once again. However, what I am confused about is that I was already running one of the restricted drivers BEFORE I upgraded to Jaunty. When did it revert back to -nv instead of trying to use the same driver or look to see if there was an upgrade available in the restricted repository? Is there any way that can be added to the upgrade process to prevent this happening to others in the future? -- -nv reports it does not support GeForce 9100M G https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/333040 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
