[Bug 156838] Bottom of PDF document not displayed when best fit is selected

2007-10-24 Thread Ludovico Fischer
Public bug reported:

Using Ubuntu 7.10, latest updates. When I open the attached document
and select 'Best fit'in the toolbar, and View>Continuous is not checked,
the bottom of each page is not displayed, and there is no scrollbar
either. It is possible to see each page correctly if I select 'Fit Page
Width', or if I check View>Continuous (as it makes the scrollbar appear
by default)

[Bug 149559] Gxine crashes on launch with BadMatch error

2007-10-05 Thread Ludovico Fischer
Public bug reported:

Launching gxine results in the splash screen flashing for a moment; then
the program crashes. Here is Terminal output:

The program 'gxine' received an X Window System error.
This probably reflects a bug in the program.
The error was 'BadMatch (invalid parameter attributes)'.

Running gxine -V opengl and gxine -V xshm results in normal startup.
gxine also works the normal way under xubuntu.

I can't get the backtrace you asked:

Whether I choose yes or no, bt always gives 'no stack'. Also, it can't find the

[Bug 138471] Re: Volume control icon indicates speakers are muted, but they aren't

It seems it depends very much form the speed at which the slider is

[Bug 127373] WPA2 connection fails if nm-applet retrieves password from keyring

2007-07-21 Thread Ludovico Fischer
Public bug reported:

I'm using ndiswrapper 0n 7.10, on a wpa2 protected hidden network.
When I first connect to the network, everything works. nm-applet asks to add
the password to the keyring. If I click yes, on subsequent tries it always
fails to connect. If I do not allow it to store the password in the keyring,
and instead each time type again the network name, password etc., it works.
On 7.04 behaviour was the following: If I tried to connect to the network,
specifying wpa2, the dialog box asking for the password appeared three times,
each time asking to retype the password. The fourth time the dialog box

2007-08-31 Thread Ludovico Fischer
If I remember correctly, I had considered the bcm43xx driver, but I have a card
for which it does not work (I'm on the iMac core2duo)
I did not try it in the other tribes, as roaming mode seemed to work OK. I
remember it did not work in Feisty Fawn, though, where roaming work worked much
worse than now too (for me at least).

[Bug 136235] Re: Freeze when mounting firewire 400 FAT 32drive in gutsy

2007-08-31 Thread Ludovico Fischer
My bad. It seems it does not really freeze; if you wait about forty
seconds, it actually manages to display the content the first time
without need to force quit and restart. Here is the log anyway. I'm not
sure it's good because it's the first time I do this.

[Bug 135868] Re: Connection to wireless network fails with manual configuration

2007-09-01 Thread Ludovico Fischer
Here is the output of lspci concerning the wireless card:
Network controller: Broadcom Corporation Unknown device 4328 (rev 01)

The good news is that bcm43xx now works with this card, although it's
still unreported on their site. I used modprobe -r to unload
ndiswrapper: wireless connection fell. Then loaded bcm43xx: roaming
mode was available again, and worked as previously.

The bad news is I still can't use manual config. Each time I repeat the
manual configuration I get a different result. Sometimes it reverts as
previously to WPA and no password; once I managed to have the network
appear with 'iwlist wlan0 scan', but there seemed to be no Intenet
connection; another time when I tried to deactivate the wireless by
unchecking the box and activated the wired connection, I could not
connect with either anymore no matter what I did, I restarted to check
in Mac OS X if it wasn't an ISP problem; it was not, and when I
reeentered Ubuntu roaming mode was working again.

So , even with bcm43xx, Manual Configuration does not work here.

[Bug 135868] Re: Connection to wireless network fails with manual configuration

2007-09-01 Thread Ludovico Fischer
Im' sorry, I think I do not know Linux sufficiently. I tried removing
completely ndiswrapper-common, and ndiswrapper-utils, and the computer
does not recognize the wireless card anymore. Does it mean that even
after doing modprobe -r ndiswrapper, I was still using it for my
connection, and I haven't tested bcm43xx at all?

Sorry if I have given you misleading info.

[Bug 87960] Re: installing compiz will make using metacity impossible (even after uninstalling)

2007-11-04 Thread Ludovico Fischer
I am using Ubuntu 7.10 final and gnome-wm file is not patched as
decribed here in the preceding post. Compiz is still the fall-back
window manager. I had to manually change it to metacity in gnome-wm and
gconf. I did a command line install, and when I started gnome, I had a
window-manager I could not recognize (only one window at the time could
be displayed).

[Bug 138015] Re: Cinepaint crashes when opening preferences

2007-11-06 Thread Ludovico Fischer
I have already reported this in the gimp bugzilla and on lcms mailing list. It
seems it is a problem with the way lcms (the colour management library used by
both gimp and cinepaint) handles icc v4 profiles. See
http://www.mail-archive.com/[EMAIL PROTECTED]/msg02122.html, for instance.
Meanwhile you could try building a profile for the Huey with the Argyll cms

[Bug 176648] Impossible to change screen brightness on iMac (white)

2007-12-15 Thread Ludovico Fischer
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: hal

On a imac(white) Core2Duo, ATIX1600, there is no way, using tools
included with the distribution, to change the intensity of the LCD
backlight. One has to use a program by Nicolas Boichat called bl1.c
(which by the way seems to have stopped working with the present state
of 8.04-Hardy). This is annoying as the screen defaults to max
brightness, which many find quite blinding. This problem seems to affect
all models of Intel iMacs and Macbooks. I wonder if there is a solution
at kernel level somewhere?

[Bug 208941] [NEW] Pasting from Firefox to openoffice does not always work

2008-03-29 Thread Ludovico Fischer
Public bug reported:

Ubuntu Gutsy 7.10, fully updated.

Sometimes, pasting from Firefox into Openoffice works as if the
clipboard stopped being updated.

Steps to reproduce:
1.Select 'www.foo.com' in url bar in Firefox.
2.In Firefox, Edit > Copy
3.In Openoffice, Edit>Paste
(Openoffice pastes www.foo.com)
4.Repeat the same steps for url 'www.bar.com'
Result:
Openoffice keeps pasting 'www.foo.com', even though you copied a new address.
Expected result:
Openoffice should paste the new address, 'www.bar.com'.

Everything works normally when pasting to gedit, and from gedit to
Openoffice. As a workaround, paste from Firefox to gedit, then from
gedit to Openoffice.

[Bug 136235] Re: Freeze when mounting firewire 400 FAT 32drive in gutsy

2008-03-07 Thread Ludovico Fischer
In my case, this seems at least partly dependent on the kernel driver.
On other distributions and with file managers other than Nautilus, there
is always a long pause before I can see the content of this Firewire
hard drive. Neverthless, the wait is greatly reduce using a custom
2.6.24 kernel compiled with the 'juju' stack. Still does not not work
well in Fedora 8, though (which uses juju, I think, but 2.6.23).
