[Bug 1507505] Re: Unable to install GRUB in /dev/nvme

2016-07-14 Thread Lilian A. Moraru
If you create an `EFI boot section` before partitioning the rest of the
device, you can install `grub` on `/dev/nvme0n1`.

Example:
- `/dev/nvme0n1`
-- `/dev/nvme0n1p1`, EFI boot section, 500MB
-- `/dev/nvme0n1p2`, ext4, [all the free space]

grub-install on `/dev/nvme0n1` now works.

[Bug 1589006] Re: Failed unmounting Mount unit for nvidia support in snappy

2016-06-04 Thread Lilian A. Moraru
Same issue here on Ubuntu 16.04 LTS(Unity).
Could not login. What I did is stop "lightdm", after which
"var-lib-snapd-lib-gl.mount", after that I purged "nvidia*", removed "snapd"
and removed the folder "/var/lib/snapd", in the hopes that it won't start this
problematic service any more.
I restarted and now it could login but compiz does not load(windows without
frames and --replace does not work).
If I try to install nvidia, it does not allow me because it tries to remove
"libcuda1-364" which fails to be removed because it can't find
"var-lib-snapd-lib-gl.mount", tried forcing and everything, don't know what to
do with it any more...
The biggest issue is that this is my main and only machine in the house + it is
a full encryption system, I can't just start installing Ubuntu all over again,
I have a lot of data...

I said to myself I won't ever install Ubuntu as the only system since I
always get hit with these issue within' 1-2 months of normal usage(every
Ubuntu version I had breaks at some point after an update - at work we
have 12.04.5 and one day it broke a few hundred of dev machines with an
update to the Linux kernel, luckily you can switch to an older version
in grub). I thought 16.04 LTS would be stable at this point and
risked...

[Bug 1589006] Re: Failed unmounting Mount unit for nvidia support in snappy

2016-06-04 Thread Lilian A. Moraru
I managed to remove "libcuda" and every package that was depending on
...snapd...mount by modifying "/var/lib/dpkg/info/[the package].prerm" and
putting "exit 0" right after the shebang.
I removed nvidia, tried reinstalling different versions and configuring in
different ways 4 times... and it didn't work(can login but no window frame).
Tried to install nouveau instead and still no window frame.
Tried reinstalling ubuntu-desktop, unity, compiz... still no luck.
unity/compiz --replace. -- no luck.

I will try to uninstall nouveau and attempt Matteo's solution.

@brian-murray I see nobody came with a response.
Personally I cannot test this since I banged my head of a wall to fix this
issue and now I don't want to break my system and get into that hell all over
again just to test the issue(I am not even sure what are exactly the steps to
test this. Do you need this package before the nVidia update? Is it ok that you
removed nVidia and installed the package?...).
My guess is that the other guys don't want that either.

This is not the kind of a bug that people can live with and that's why
they don't already have a fix for it...

Best chance is that people that didn't update yet hit the issue... and
don't want to fix it with the suggestions in here...

2012-04-29 Thread Lilian A. Moraru
Ok, I wrote a long story and launchpad failed to save it. Long story short,
last time I was trying to install on btrfs while the old version of grub(Ubuntu
had an old version) in Ubuntu didn't have support for it.
This time, I tried to install grub on /dev/sdb which was the USB Stick. The
older installers by default were selecting /dev/sda, the HDD, and I didn't pay
attention this time, that's why it failed...

[Bug 972710] Re: Cancel an installation (deny to give the password) keep application's icon in the launcher

2012-04-27 Thread Lilian A. Moraru
That looks like a hack.
The bug should be reopened and here it is why(this are actually 2 bugs in 1
report):

I tried to install an application, the connection to the internet was lost for
about 1 second(it reconnected very fast) but the installation of the software
stopped and didn't want to go any further just because of a simple spike in the
connection. I had 2 applications to install, the second one was on wait so I
stopped the first one so the second one could install.
The second one started to install(good) but the icon of the first one which got
canceled remained on the launcher(bad) and when I tried to click on it, it was
doing nothing(because the application did not install).

I took the next empty partition and deleted it and made it an Extended one. In

didn't worked either), then / - 30 GB(ext4), and then /swap - 800 MB.

[Bug 839384] Re: [Oneiric]Unity Dash has a very bad impact on the computer performance

2012-08-05 Thread Lilian A. Moraru
The dash on "No blur" or "Static blur" works ok.
In KDE the blur doesn't make the system lag but at the same time, there the
blur effect is not on the whole screen.
I don't even know what to say, is my Dual Core with integrated graphics weak
for blur on such a big area or the dash has some performance problems. Anyway,
looks like the performance improved a little bit since I reported the bug.
It was lagging even if I don't launch any application. Now I have to make
something work in the background and then it starts to lag.

[Bug 839384] Re: [Oneiric]Unity Dash has a very bad impact on the computer performance

2012-07-23 Thread Lilian A. Moraru
On a fresh install it was lagging when switched to full-screen dash(after a
fresh boot with no applications running and letting the OS to load fully and
with 1 minute of additional time for any operations it might have to do to
finish).
After I updated it wasn't lagging any more when it was full-screen.
I can't test if the MeMenu lags because now when I open it(MeMenu) Dash closes
automatically.

I tested with a video in the background, for that I opened Firefox with
1 tab with a youtube video loaded. The video set on 480p, it was enough
to start the video for the dash to lag very hard in FullScreen mode or
Non-FullScreen mode and also the video was lagging while the dash was
open... I want to remind that this laptop is not that weak, it can play
without any problem 1080p youtube videos for example.

Also, if allowed, why I said it has a bad performance impact:
I had a long time ago a PC with AMD Athlon 3000+(1 core, 1 thread, 1.8 GHz) and
1 GB Ram and it was running without any problem Windows 7 and KDE. This laptop
is about 2-3 times more powerful than that old PC that I had and it lags when
it opens the dash and the computer does any other operations while the dash is
opened...
I also want to point out that this laptop has Kubuntu 12.04 LTS installed and
it has no problems at all with all the default effects activated... I can
compile the kernel on it with -j16 and youtube videos don't lag on 1080p in KDE.

[Bug 800840] Re: unable to install grub 2 on btrfs

2011-09-01 Thread Lilian A. Moraru
If you don't support root on btrfs yet than announce when we format the
drivers(as it was before, it was asking for ext3 even if ext4 was ok too when
we were choosing btrfs).
But it's strange cause you introduced GRUB2 which actually supports root on
btrfs.

[Bug 839384] Re: Unity Dash has a very bad impact on the computer performance

I checked if Dash increases considerably the CPU usage and it doesn't...
The CPU acts normally, almost no increase.

[Bug 840157] [NEW] [All Versions]If MeMenu is opened, the special buttons combinations won't work.

2011-09-03 Thread Lilian A. Moraru
Public bug reported:

If you open from the top-right a menu, be it the new MeMenu or what was before
11.10, doesn't matter, it's the same bug for all of them.
For example, you open Connections menu(Network) and leave it open, then try to
press Ctrl + Alt + L or Ctrl + Alt + Delete, any hot key combination while it's
opened, it won't work.
I think that it "hooks" the keys pressed so you can navigate through it but it
doesn't know about the hot-keys...

Looks like LibreOffice 3.4.3 has Global Menu integration, the PPA has
not been updated for long time so it's still version 3.4.2 in Ubuntu
11.10 Oneiric Ocelot.
