[Bug 1909030] Re: [pulse bridge] Stuttered Audio Playback after xruns
Some questions... and log file requests. I see you are using 4096 samples of buffer, Is that because you are using HDMI? or some other reason? Are you using a discord client or a browser instance? Does htop show one core running at 100%? Could you attach: ~/.log/jack/jackdbus.log If The device you are using for output is internal, the file: /proc/asound/PCH/codec#0 or if it is USB: /proc/asound/PCH/stream0 Also of interest: /proc/asound/PCH/pcm0p/sub0/hw_params In the above three cases the device would be PCH,0,0, If your's is different (eg, Device,1,0) then change the PCH to Device and the pcm0p to pcm1p. All of these should be copied while jack is running and also with jack not running but with discord still working through pulse. My first guess is that discord runs at 48000 and not 44100 or that your audio device only works at 48000. (JACK will use the device at whatever it is able to get but still tell the world it is running at what was asked for) So in this case you asked for 44100 but the device is 48000 only so JACK runs at 48000 but pulse thinks it is running at 44100. Something like VLC, may handle that fine because it is just sending the next 4096 samples when they are asked for but because discord is live it will get asked for the next 4096 samples before it has them to give because it is working at a slower sample rate. In any of these cases, Studio-controls is not to blame, but rather JACK or the pulse-jack bridge (pulse module) Studio-controls does not handle audio itself at all, it is a script for running JACK and other utilities and creating some connections along the way. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1909030 Title: [pulse bridge] Stuttered Audio Playback after xruns To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubuntustudio-controls/+bug/1909030/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1857509] [NEW] Missing digimend config file
Public bug reported: The actual package name installed is xserver-xorg-input-wacom but this seems to be the upstream package. Working with ubuntustudio 19.10 I have a Huion 610 which has a working pen on session start but the buttons down the side of the tablet just mirror the the mouse buttons and are therefore useless. On an older install I had installed the digimend kernel modules which worked fine but that package also included a file: /usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d/50-digimend.conf. I added the part of this file that deals with my tablet to the: /usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d/70-wacom.conf file and I can now use xsetwacom to set buttons and other parameters. It seems that allthough the digimend kernel module has made it upstream to the linux kernel, the xorg config file has not. As the 70-wacom.conf already contains sections for devices other than wacom devices, perhaps the rest of the devices that the kernel supports could be added to that file. I have attached a copy of my /usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d/50-digimend.conf file below. At the time the section dealt with two devices: MatchUSBID "5543:006e|256c:006e" but I found that doing a single section for MatchUSBID "256c:006e" worked better for me (in ubuntu 16.04 at the time). [Bug 1841746] Re: Installing ubntustudio-audio causes hang at login
1) have you also installed: ubuntustudio-controls ubuntustudio-performance-tweaks ubuntustudio-audio-core ubuntustudio-plugins linux-lowlatency ubuntustudio-lowlatency-settings The first three should probably have been installed as depends for ubuntustudio-audio but may not have. The last three are more optional but worth while for most audio workflows. 2) have you run ubuntustudio-controls? If you have installed ubuntustudio-audio from the gnome software installer, jack has probably not been installed correctly (this affects other SW besides jack such as ardour). Running ubuntustudio-controls and clicking on the FIX Real Time Permissions button should fix that. (then log out and in or reboot) Please leave a comment if this helps or not. Yes the lowlat kernel is optional. perhaps try removing ubuntustudio- performance-tweaks. I can think of nothing else that may be causing this. Have you set up jack (using ubuntustudio-controls or Cadence) to autostart at session start? If so try turning jack off just before rebooting/shutting down. Public bug reported: Using dbus.Byte to create a Byte value for dbus errors out with: return dbus.Byte(value); TypeError: Expected a bytes or str of length 1, or an int in the range 0-255 even with a one character string like 'e' or 'a'. [Bug 1909030] Re: [pulse bridge] Stuttered Audio Playback after xruns
Sorry for the delay, Anyway, the device is able to use 44k1 without problems and because VLC works fine we can probably rule out jack, and pulse too. Studio-controls is just a script that runs jack and adds bridges to it using software that is not a part of studio-controls so it is not studio-controls specific. Really, that leaves discord either not liking 44k1 or not being able to deal with large buffer sizes. It would be interesting to know what discord asks for when it opens the audio device. You can check this by stopping jack in studio-controls, make sure vlc is not running, run discord and while discord is running run: cd /tmp && wget https://community.ardour.org/files/adevices.sh && bash ./adevices.sh >adevices-pulse Attach adevices-pulse here or look at it yourself. The lines to look at are: used by: pulse rate: 44100 (44100/1) - The 44100/1 means it really is 44100 as measured by the computer period_size: 4096 - what we call buffer size, the amount of memory pulse can deal with per period buffer_size: 8192 - buffer size X nperiods, the application deals with one half while the device deals with the other and then they switch when the device says so (at least in jack) pulse does other things sometimes.
[Bug 1897808] [NEW] Carla 2.2 hangs when zita-ajbridge ends after device removal
Public bug reported: Start Carla, select patch bay tab. All jack ports are shown. Plug in a USB device and use zita-ajbridge to bridge the new device to jack. Carla shows the new device. Unplug the USB device zita is using. Stop the zita-ajbridge instance(s) (sigint). They segfault, try to move a jack port on Carla's patch bay the mouse icon freezes to the move icon and the port will not move. try to use the X to stop carla but carla does not respond. Any other program that uses jack will also fail to complete (I used jack_lsp to list jack's ports). It seems a reboot is needed to regain operability. Upstream github issue: https://github.com/falkTX/Carla/issues/1237 reverting to Carla 2.1 fixes this. See patch below that fixes this problem. Tested new package from proposed. Run Jackdbus, Run zita-j2a with USB device plugged in. That device shows up on the jack graph and will take connections. Start htop and show zita processes. Remove USB device while watching htop. Cpu use remains stable at .5 to 2% (same as running normally). Device remains on the graph (normal) which allows studio- controls time to switch connections to another device before kill SIGINT zita process. [Bug 1881446] Re: ubuntustudio-menu disappeared from mate desktop on upgrade to 20.04
the ubuntustudio menu relies on the DE actually following the open desktop standards. Gnome never really has completely and has now moved away from menus all together, only supporting menus with separately developed "plugins". It appears mate has changed their menu farther away from the open desktop standard so the ubuntustudio menu add-on no longer works. You can check /etc/xdg/menus/applications-merged/ to make sure the file studio.menu exists. If so ubuntustudio-menu is correctly installed and the bug is with the DE. If the problem is with the DE, there should be a file in /etc/xdg/menus/ with a .menu extension. (gnome-applications.menu for example) if there is such a menu there the line to look for is: DefaultMergeDirs/ (with less than and greater than symbols around it) and the ubuntustudio menu should work. (it will work better if that line is almost the last line before the last /menu line but many DEs get this wrong and are not willing to fix this bug) However if there is no .menu file there, then Mate has decided they do not care about the open desktop standard and there is little ubuntustudio can do. This would be a Mate bug. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1881446 Title: ubuntustudio-menu disappeared from mate desktop on upgrade to 20.04 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubuntustudio-menu/+bug/1881446/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1884472] Re: a2jmidid checkbox do not work correctly
The default setting for jackdbus for midi is none, not raw. However running any other jackdbus startup utility in the past will create ~/.config/jack/conf.xml. An upgrade from to 19.10 to 20.04 will not reset that file as it is not an installed file. That said, because controls sets all controls it needs to every time it starts and starting jackdbus rewrites that file, future versions of studio-controls will remove that file before starting to avoid mis- settings made by other utilities. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1884472 Title: a2jmidid checkbox do not work correctly To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubuntustudio-controls/+bug/1884472/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1872187] Re: ubuntustudio-controls crashed with IndexError in refresh_dropdowns(): list index out of range
What is seen by pavucontrol is not relavent. When jack is running pavucontrol should show no devices except possibly a bluetooth device. Instead jack becomes the default "device" or sink, which is what we want. However, the traceback does give indication that in some cases the sound card may not have a description. [Bug 1872187] Re: ubuntustudio-controls crashed with IndexError in refresh_dropdowns(): list index out of range
Oliver, the bug in ubuntustudio-controls is fixed. The problem with the audio device itself is a different one. it looks like jackdbus is frozen. killall -9 jackd jackdbus will kill it. Then maybe try running jack with a buffersize of 4096 rather than 1024 as some mother board audio systems require a large buffer size. Menulibre should not be used on ubuntustudio, it does not deal with the system menu configuration files correctly. It uses the default menu template as it's base rather than what the system happens to be using. I personally feel ubuntustudio should not ship any menu editor as alacarte, while it does work ok, still does not do the whole job. [Bug 1646245] [NEW] /etc/init.d/ondemand keeps /etc/init.d/cpufrequtils from working
Public bug reported: dpkg -S /etc/init.d/ondemand says initscripts. /etc/init.d/cpufrequtils already sets the cpu governor and has the option that a user can set system governor in /etc/default/. ondemand over rides this and even worse does it 60 seconds late so that the user can not even set the governor from rc.local. There is no sense in waiting 60 seconds as the cpu governor is already at ondemand or powersave before the system gets around to running ondemand. ondemand needs to just be removed so that cpufrequtils can do it's job properly. Or at least ondemand needs to read some file in /etc/defaults that tells it what the system default should be rather forcing the user to edit system files to get around ondemand's crazy activity which then breaks package updates. [Bug 1325752] Re: All apps become mute when certain apps are opened.
Have you changed the settings on these programs? I don't have mixxx installed (studio doesn't install it by default) but I can run a youtube video and then start Musescore and hit play and it will play along with the video. Musescore seems to come with IO set to portaudio with the API set to alsa and the device set to "default" ( the default alsa device is PulseAudio unless you have changed that). I am not sure what mixxx would do with that. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1325752 Title: All apps become mute when certain apps are opened. [Bug 1220898] [NEW] generic kernel gets installed in ubuntustudio upgrade.
Public bug reported: The ubuntustudio installs only the lowlatency kernel, but when upgraded the generic kernel gets added and also becomes the default kernel. This makes lowlatency audio recording not work. The generic kernel should not be installed. It appears that when the script get-kernel_list.sh is run, it does not return linux-lowlatency as one of the options and so the calling script first tries to find linux-RT and fails and then settles on generic instead. [Bug 1213518] [NEW] xfce-applications.menu merges in a non-standard way. default overrides merge
Public bug reported: the file /etc/xdg/menus/xfce-applications.menu has the at the beginning of the file where it is processed and the extra files are merged before the rest of the default file are read. [Bug 1213518] Re: xfce-applications.menu merges in a non-standard way. default overrides merge
I don't have a debian install to test with. However, the test case that I know is to install ubuntustudio-menu from ppa:len-ovenwerks/ppa (the main one hasn't had this version released yet, but hopefully this week). With out the patch, the five new submenus will be in alphabetical order mixed with the other categories. With the patch, these five categories will be at the top of the menu with a separator below them. There are other artifacts the patch fixes as well, but that is the easiest one to describe. It is safe to force ubuntustudio-menu to install without depends, but the depend (ubuntustudio-installer) is quite small too. Not installing ubuntustudio-installer just means there are some extra applications that don't do anything and have no icon :) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1213518 Title: xfce-applications.menu merges in a non-standard way. default overrides merge To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/garcon/+bug/1213518/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

More information would be helpful. Which program are you using to record your piano? Is it recording directly from alsa? or by using pulseaudio? (I would guess the second as your info says pulse audio is running... but, just checking) On your panel there is probably a sound icon that has "Sound Settings" at the bottom. Selecting that should give you pavucontrol, the pulseaudio volume control. The Input Devices tab should show what input is being used and allow you to select between mic and line input. You would want Line Input. There is a meter bar there too that should show your audio in when you play. If you have switched anything you may have to restart your recording application (audacity works well by the way) to get the new settings. The recording tab should show the application you are recording with when in record mode (record plus pause is useful to set levels with before starting to record). This can leave the user with a crippled system. I have personally helped a number of people fix botched installs. I have never had complaints after the user installs synaptic. synaptic, though old and worn, is the only GUI installer that is safe to use in my experience. It is also fast and provides package information that allows trouble shooting package problems. These extras may be confusing for a new computer user or someone coming from windows, but points a and b above need to be addressed if new users are to keep using Ubuntu longer than a quick try. -- Len Ovens www.ovenwerks.net -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1713313 Title: Unable to launch pkexec'ed applications on Wayland session To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/apport/+bug/1713313/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1672412] Re: FFe: Merge wine 2.0-4 and wine-development 2.4-1 (universe) from Debian experimental (main)
Ubuntustudio was unaware they shipped wine. It seems lmms pulls that in on 32bit iso. We would like our 32bit and 64 bit ISOs to have the same functionality anyway. We have tried blacklisting lmms-vst-server in the seeds but that did not seem to keep this package and wine from being added to the ISO. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1672412 Title: FFe: Merge wine 2.0-4 and wine-development 2.4-1 (universe) from Debian experimental (main) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/wine/+bug/1672412/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1678417] Re: Please rebuild pd-aubio against libaubio5
Are you sure Ardour "needs" libaubio5? Ardour 5.8 and for that matter latest git builds just fine on ubuntu 16.04. From ./waf configure Checking for 'aubio' >= 0.3.2: yes Checking for 'aubio' >= 0.4.0: yes Doesn't even check for 5. Maybe the dependency for libaubio5 in Ardour needs to be relaxed and it can be migrated to newer libs when everything else is. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1678417 Title: Please rebuild pd-aubio against libaubio5 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/pd-aubio/+bug/1678417/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1546328] Re: Systray option does not work.
If not having a package breaks an app that package would be a depend by definition... or am I missing something? This small application, Qjackctl, is a major part of Ubuntustudio as the app that allows the user to control jackd/jackdbus from a gui. With out proper systray operation the user may find themselves unable to use this application if they set qjackctl to start hidden in the systray. All major lowlatency audio applications depend on jack. Are you suggesting Ubuntu is no longer a platform someone should use for audio/video work? This bug is an ISO fail for Studio, so it would seem strange to drop a qt5 package and keep qt4 libs around instead, but that seems to what you are saying. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1546328 Title: Systray option does not work. [Bug 1546328] Re: Systray option does not work.
Ross: Downloaded and installed qjackctl_0.4.1-1ubuntu2~ppa3_i386.deb from https://launchpad.net/~ubuntustudio-dev/+archive/ubuntu/dev- testing/+packages Setup->misc->Enable system tray icon seems to work Minus the icon... stop and then start works ok too. Setup->misc->Start minimized to system tray -- work ok still, but quit qjackctl and restart and my desktop show mouse movement but nothing works. I can not bring any window to focus or input to the already focused window. I have to c/a/F1 and killall qjackctl, c/a/F7 to get back in business. To correct this I have to remove Qjackctols config file as this seems to be the only way to be able to use qjackctl again. Note: appmenu-qt5 is still installed. So it does not seems to fix anything. So far, the ISO is broken. I will try one more thing: a reboot, and see if that helps. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1546328 Title: Systray option does not work. [Bug 1546328] Re: Systray option does not work.
Reboot did get me a nice icon, but running qjackctl with "Start minimized to tray" still locks all screen input. It is interesting that with "Enable system tray icon" selected it is fine, I can start and stop with no problems. It is the Start minimized to tray option that causes trouble. Perhaps QT4 is still the best option at this time. (and perhaps indicators are just bad and systray is a better option too, but that is just my opinion. I like being able to have different actions on left and right click) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1546328 Title: Systray option does not work.
