[Bug 221009] Re: Firefox keeps forcing disk to spin up when browsing because its sqlite storage calls fsync() for every recorded entry
The issue is the same on Windows version of Firefox 3b5 (Firefox Portable). Since I'm using it from an USB drive with an activity led, I've noticed a *permanent* activity and the latest modified file is places.sqlite ! Accessing my USB drive is very slow whenever Firefox Portable is running, and sometimes it even render Firefox unresponsive since it tries to access another file on the sync-flooded drive I fear for the safety of my USB drive, and it's become difficult to use Firefox... I know it's ubuntu's BTS, but I wanted to post this comment to tell you it's a Firefox bug, on every platform, not only linux ;) -- Firefox keeps forcing disk to spin up when browsing because its sqlite storage calls fsync() for every recorded entry https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/221009 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 221009] Re: Firefox keeps forcing disk to spin up when browsing because its sqlite storage calls fsync() for every recorded entry
Moreover, it's not urlclassifier3.sqlite but places.sqlite which is rewritten too often. It happens even after a long time since Firefox has been started. Maybe the whole sqlite system embedded in Firefox3 is doing this ? -- Firefox keeps forcing disk to spin up when browsing because its sqlite storage calls fsync() for every recorded entry https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/221009 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1451818] Re: jayatana causing Moneydance 2015 crash in ubuntu 15.04
I have some information to add: Crashes do not occur on Xubuntu-15.04 (which does not ship with jayatana). Crashes occur on both amd64 and i386 architectures. Most of the crash reports (on the Moneydance support forum) name "libawt_xawt.so" as indicated above. That is what is being seen with Moneydance 2015, which bundles and uses its own copy of Oracle Java 8 Runtime Enviroment (currently 8u25). The library "libawt_xawt.so" is part of Java8. We also have a report about the same crash with the older Moneydance 2011, which bundles and uses its own Java 7u45. In that report, the library "libmawt.so" is named instead. The library "libmawt.so" is part of Java7. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1451818 Title: jayatana causing Moneydance 2015 crash in ubuntu 15.04 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/jayatana/+bug/1451818/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1058269] Re: Disk hangs or fails when trying to boot with a NVIDIA card
apport information ** Tags added: apport-collected ** Description changed: Hardware is a ThinkPad T520, which has both an Intel graphics module and a NVIDIA graphics card. When booting with the NVIDIA card activated in the BIOS, on previous versions of Ubuntu, you need to remove $linux_gfxmode from GRUB, and add "nomodeset". When I do this, the system consistently hangs or gives errors when mounting the filesystem. Screenshot will be attached of a case where it hung. (/dev/sda is the only HDD, with default ubuntu /boot, root, /swap) I installed 12.04 and did an upgrade to 12.10, currently using kernel 3.5.0-16. I have upgraded the machine's BIOS to the latest available, with no change in this bug. This problem doesn't occur when using Intel graphics. If I did not modify the GRUB entry, the system hangs on the splash screen. - So I have not been able to boot when using a NVIDIA card with Ubuntu - 12.10 right now. + So I have not been able to boot when using a NVIDIA card with Ubuntu 12.10 right now. + --- + ApportVersion: 2.6.1-0ubuntu3 + Architecture: amd64 + AudioDevicesInUse: + USERPID ACCESS COMMAND + /dev/snd/controlC0: jack 1930 F pulseaudio + /dev/snd/pcmC0D0p: jack 1930 F...m pulseaudio + CheckboxSubmission: 7a36e5f5099f078e6a6b7c7b3aff62b9 + CheckboxSystem: bb422ca46d02494cdbc459927a98bc2f + DistroRelease: Ubuntu 12.10 + HibernationDevice: RESUME=UUID=c3ff47e2-5dc6-4b4a-8e56-c6ef2276ef06 + InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 12.04 LTS "Precise Pangolin" - Release amd64 (20120425) + MachineType: LENOVO 4239CTO + Package: linux (not installed) + ProcEnviron: + TERM=xterm + PATH=(custom, no user) + XDG_RUNTIME_DIR= + LANG=en_US.UTF-8 + SHELL=/bin/bash + ProcFB: 0 inteldrmfb + ProcKernelCmdLine: BOOT_IMAGE=/boot/vmlinuz-3.5.0-16-generic root=UUID=09519592-c36c-4637-9968-3e1e838feb01 ro quiet splash + ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 3.5.0-16.25-generic 3.5.4 + RelatedPackageVersions: + linux-restricted-modules-3.5.0-16-generic N/A + linux-backports-modules-3.5.0-16-generic N/A + linux-firmware1.95 + RfKill: + 0: phy0: Wireless LAN + Soft blocked: no + Hard blocked: no + Tags: quantal + Uname: Linux 3.5.0-16-generic x86_64 + UpgradeStatus: Upgraded to quantal on 2012-09-28 (18 days ago) + UserGroups: adm cdrom dip lpadmin plugdev sambashare sudo + dmi.bios.date: 08/07/2012 + dmi.bios.vendor: LENOVO + dmi.bios.version: 8AET59WW (1.39 ) + dmi.board.asset.tag: Not Available + dmi.board.name: 4239CTO + dmi.board.vendor: LENOVO + dmi.board.version: Not Available + dmi.chassis.asset.tag: No Asset Information + dmi.chassis.type: 10 + dmi.chassis.vendor: LENOVO + dmi.chassis.version: Not Available + dmi.modalias: dmi:bvnLENOVO:bvr8AET59WW(1.39):bd08/07/2012:svnLENOVO:pn4239CTO:pvrThinkPadT520:rvnLENOVO:rn4239CTO:rvrNotAvailable:cvnLENOVO:ct10:cvrNotAvailable: + dmi.product.name: 4239CTO + dmi.product.version: ThinkPad T520 + dmi.sys.vendor: LENOVO ** Attachment added: "AlsaInfo.txt" https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1058269/+attachment/3400828/+files/AlsaInfo.txt -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1058269 Title: Disk hangs or fails when trying to boot with a NVIDIA card To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1058269/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1058269] Re: Disk hangs or fails when trying to boot with a NVIDIA card
** Attachment added: "IMAG0801.jpg" https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1058269/+attachment/3352934/+files/IMAG0801.jpg ** Description changed: Hardware is a ThinkPad T520, which has both an Intel graphics module and a NVIDIA graphics card. [Bug 1047688] Re: Boot fails on udev if USB devices are present
I attempted to boot with all USB devices plugged in, and received the errors you see in the screenshot. You'll see a lot about USB devices. See also the errors on /dev/sda (internal SSD) on 3 and 4. I have also been unable to boot because /dev/sda was a problem, as a standalone issue, but for whatever reason I had stopped experiencing that issue. After the boot you see in the screenshots, I attempted to boot into recovery mode with no devices present. The system repeatedly hang on starting udev with no error messages. I then reconnected a keyboard and mouse, and the system actually booted up mostly fine. I was just unable to use the laptop's native keyboard and trackpad, even if the USB devices were removed. Strange issue. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1047688 Title: Boot fails on udev if USB devices are present To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/udev/+bug/1047688/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 2098525] Re: Add dracut support for update-initramfs command
Maintaining `update-initramfs` for added control and compatibility for the transition seems a good idea. I am wondering if instead of calling `dracut` directly from `update- initramfs`, it should call `kernel-install add-all` and let `kernel- install` call `dracut`. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2098525 Title: Add dracut support for update-initramfs command To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/dracut/+bug/2098525/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 2098525] Re: Add dracut support for update-initramfs command
> Based on this, I think we should call dracut directly. I do not have a strong opinion on this and even if I would, I do not have a strong influence on this matter, but I wanted decision makers to be aware of at least more than one options before making a decision. Gentoo also uses dracut, both with systemd and with OpenRC. The OpenRC dracut integration is being proposed to be upstreamed from Gentoo, so that it can be shared with Debian based distros - see https://github.com/dracut-ng/dracut-ng/pull/1226 - but if update- initramfs is directly using dracut than this extra integration upstream dracut will not be used. One advantage of such approach is better UKI (Unified kernel image) support and potentially improved future compatibility.

Why expecting a password prompt when dracut seems to be configured to use a key ? [Bug 160264] Re: [nvidia] compiz displays white screen when locked
I can verify the bug is still in Jaunty. Using NVidia driver version 180.44 (recommended driver) on a GEForce Go 7900 GS with Compiz enabled. I used Savvas Radevic's fix as a workaround & it works but at the cost of disabling screen savers. -- [nvidia] compiz displays white screen when locked https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/160264 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 372132] Re: "Create Document" Templates difficult to use
As a recent ubuntu convert I can honestly say that the current behavior of "Create Document" is completely useless. How often do "regular" users want to create an "Empty File"? At a minimum templates should be installed for creating: 1. OO Word Processor file 2. OO Spreadsheet 3. Text File (to replace the name "Empty File") As it stands now there is zero functionality to the current behavior. -- "Create Document" Templates difficult to use https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/372132 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
