[Bug 68818] Re: squid transparent proxy is broken

2006-11-04 Thread Kenneth Rawlings
I'll second this one. I replaced a gentoo server in my DMZ providing
the squid transparent proxy and couldn't figure out why it wasn't
working with my brand new "Edgy" install. It took me a while to track
down that it was bug in squid and not a configuration error on my part.
Refer to bug #1650 in the squid bug system.

[Bug 525827] Re: window decoration is displayed around AwnDialogs

2010-02-23 Thread Kenneth Rawlings
I tried out some of Cody's scenarios on my installation and I was unable
to reproduce the intermittent window decorations. For me the window
decorations are consistently displayed.

To add some additional detail, I see the window decorations on the
weather, calendar, cpu, and volume popups. I never see the decorations
on the menu (using the YAMA plugin), although that may be a different
type of window.

[Bug 444396] Re: [Gateway MX6424] hibernate/resume failure

2009-10-12 Thread Kenneth Rawlings
I am having the same problem with a Gateway MX6440. I have tried
suspending and resuming with and without linux-backports-modules-karmic.
By the looks of the original submitters BootDmesg.txt this is an
extremely similar machine to the MX6440. If there is anything I can add
that can help with troubleshooting this issue, just ping me.

[Bug 453672] [NEW] [LENOVO 205545U] suspend/resume failure [non-free: fglrx]

2009-10-16 Thread Kenneth Rawlings
Public bug reported:

I was watching a dvd movie in totem. The problem occured after the
following steps.

1. Paused movie.
2. Suspended the laptop by shutting the lid.
3. Resumed laptop by opening the lid.

The system did not resume properly and was frozen on a screen with what
looked like low resolution static.

ProblemType: KernelOops
Annotation: This occured during a previous suspend and prevented it from
resuming properly.

[Bug 1767468] Re: Upgrade from 16.04 to 18.04, then uninstalling unity disables hardware acceleration

2018-05-12 Thread Kenneth Rawlings
@Michele - Thanks, that did it for me. This problem has been driving me
nuts since I upgraded to 18.04.

I went one step further though. I noticed that file belonged to the nux-
tools package. I went ahead and ran "sudo apt purge nux-tools". I didn't
see a need to keep that package around anymore. No other packages were
depending on that package either.

I have some detail I can add to this bug. This has stopped happening to
me after I changed the "Turn off after:" setting in System Settings ->
Screen. I still have have my settings configured to Lock the screen
after 10 minutes.

This leads me to believe that the bug is confined to code responsible
for turning the LCD off to save power.

Let me know if you need any extra detail.

[Bug 886887] Re: screen saver after going into blank screen, resumes to all-white screen, no unlock dialog

2012-03-06 Thread Kenneth Rawlings
This definitely seems to have resolved the issue for me. If I revert
back to the 3.0 series kernel I can reproduce the issue fairly readily.

The 3.3 kernel does seem to have a side effect with regards to video
though. When I come back to the machine and move the mouse, the
screensaver unlock pops up, but I can see the desktop (Unity and the
background). It's more of a nuiscance than anything else and is
definitely an improvement over having to shut my laptop to suspend it
and reset the video hardware.

[Bug 770625] [NEW] overlay-scrollbar_0.1.9-0ubuntu1 update causes vmware workstation to crash when resuming and pausing virtual machines.

2011-04-25 Thread Kenneth Rawlings
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: overlay-scrollbar

After Natty AMD64 updated to overlay-scrollbar_0.1.9-ubuntu1, the vmware
workstation (version 7.1.4 64-bit) application crashes while pausing
virtual machines. It also causes vmware workstation to crash when
starting more than 1 virtual machine.

I was able to resolve this issue by downgrading to overlay-
scrollbar_0.1.7-0ubuntu1.

liboverlay-scrollbar_0.1.9-0ubuntu1 also needed to be downgraded.

[Bug 770625] Re: overlay-scrollbar_0.1.9-0ubuntu1 update causes vmware workstation to crash when resuming and pausing virtual machines.

2011-04-26 Thread Kenneth Rawlings
On the forums in response to my suggestion to downgrade the lib,
Heroprotago suggests using the LD_PRELOAD environment variable to force
vmware to use the glib it is shipped with.

export LD_PRELOAD=/usr/lib/vmware/lib/libglib-2.0.so.0/libglib-2.0.so.0

He suggests putting this in the vmware shell script. I would recommend
creating your own shell script that exports this environment variable
and calls the vmware script so it is persistent across vmware upgrades.

Visit the following links for information:

http://ubuntuforums.org/showpost.php?p=10721766&postcount=17
http://developers-developers-developers.blogspot.com/2011/04/ubuntu-1104-vmware-player-dies-when.html

It is a usable workaround while waiting for a fix.

2021-11-13 Thread Kenneth Rawlings
Just a quick note for others. I had to fully turn off my laptop before
booting to 5.13.0-20 for things to work. From something said in the
upstream bug, sounds like the hardware may get into a weird state from
booting 5.13.0-21 that can't be remedied by a warm reboot.
