[Bug 297966] [NEW] Evolution on Exchange 2003 - mail missing in mailbox
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: evolution I have just installed Ubuntu on ad brandnew laptop (Lenovo X61s) - works perfectly... (tested only 3 days) Yesterday i struggled to get Evolution to work with my Exchange 2003 - and after a lot of googling I got it to work. But I have today noticed a strange issue. I have a total of 29 mails in my inbox, but evolution show only 8 mails. When I take my XP maschine and Outlook I can see 29 mails. If I close Evolution and open it again I can see 29 mails for some time. F9 does not bring up the missing mail. Im using Ubuntu 8.10 Evolution 2.24.1 Hope there is a quick fix for this. Love this Ubuntu OS and I have been working with M for quite some time. ** Summary changed: - Open Office autoformating creates invisible bullets + Autoformating leaves ghost indentation ** Description changed: Binary package hint: openoffice.org2 Steps: - With autoformatting turned on. Create an unnumbeered paragraph. Hit return to get a numbered paragraph. Then type the delete key to delete the numbering. Sometimes this creates a bulleted item with an invisible bullet. To the user it appears that the line has been indented but the ruler does not show an indent. + With autoformatting turned on. Create an unnumbeered paragraph. Hit return to get a numbered paragraph. Then type the delete key to delete the numbering. This creates a numbered line which means that the text is indented to make space for the number. However since the number was deleted there is no visible number. This leaves the rulerI in an inconsistent state since it does not indicate why the text is indented. [Bug 193439] Re: update-grub fails when default is "saved"
I had this same issue as I was trying to perform regular updates in Jaunty. Based on the comments here, I changed one line from: # updatedefaultentry=true to: # updatedefaultentry=false The update succeeded this time. I restored the original line afterwards. It seems to be related to certain entries related to a 160GB IDE hard disk that insists on being the boot drive if it is connected. My other hard drives are SATA. I have attached the output from fdisk -l. All of my Linux partitions are reiserfs, except for /dev/sdc5, which is ext2. sda = SATA sdb = SATA sdc = IDE The entries in menu.lst: boot hard drive that I had removed. I think, but can not guarantee, that this is the first kernel update since I removed the hard disk permanently. I had used grub to install to both hard drives, knowing that I would be experimenting with the removal of the one, but still wanted the computer to boot with only the first hard drive connected. I am willing to help test if anyone has suggestions. ** Attachment added: "output of sudo fdisk -l" http://launchpadlibrarian.net/48937247/fdisk-l.txt -- update-grub fails when default is "saved" https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/193439 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 193439] Re: update-grub fails when default is "saved"
So VERY sorry for that! I was in the middle of some further experiments and did not mean to post yet. I don't see any way to edit my post! My entire paragraph about the hard drive being removed is false. I had meant to delete that paragraph before posting. I realized that the hard disk is currently connected and so therefore its absence was not the cause at all. I had told update-grub to install the package maintainer's version of menu.lst, then saw that two entries were missing that I wanted to keep. I copied them back into menu.lst. I ran update-grub again and got the error. My test was to reinsert/remove these two entries: The entries in menu.lst: title Mac OS X 02 1,4 v9 root(hd1,4) kernel /boot/boot_mac boot title Mac OS X 01 1,4 ch root(hd1,4) kernel /boot/boot_ch boot The first couple of times I did that, I got no error from running /sbin /update-grub while the entries were absent, but got the error when they were present. After several more tests, I seem to have come to a dead end. I can no longer reproduce the toggling of working/not-working that I was able to do a few minutes ago. Now, I do not get the error at all. I don't know what has changed. Yay!(?) [Bug 1891503] [NEW] Ubuntu upgrade halted due to unofficial software packages
Public bug reported: I run KDE neon User Edition 5.19 18.04 and have a few PPA's active (OBS, Chrome, VirtualBox, etc...). When I try to upgrade to KDE neon 20.04 I am met by the error "Could not calculate the upgrade" ant the text "An unresolvable problem occurred while calculating the upgrade. This was likely caused by: * Unofficial software packages not provided by Ubuntu Please use the tool 'ppa-purge' from the ppa-purge package to remove software from a Launchpad PPA and try the upgrade again. If none of this applies, then please report this bug ..." As far as I know I do not have any Launchpad PPA's, but I might be unaware. And ppa-purge did not tell me anything about what package might be the problem. Neither did the logs in /var/log/dist-upgrade. I am by far no power user, and this is as long as I can go on my own. I will probably just reinstall from scratch, but since the error message asked me to report it, I did. Hope it might help in any way. Re: [Bug 1871303] Re: [nvidia] Xorg crashes in (EE) NVIDIA(0): Failed to allocate software rendering cache surface: out of memory
Thanks, I tried the nvidia driver 435. seems that Umbuntu rejects and and reverted to the nouveau driver. But the resolution is very low and the rendering quality is bad. [Bug 588194] Re: Unexpected power-off during boot or when resuming from suspend
Yep, so I'm guessing it has something to do with the kernel or the intel videodrivers (as the problem did not occur when I put i915.modeset=0 in grubs kernelline). As you didn't get a fix with your 2.6.35.7 it might be the intel videodriver that is causing our trouble. [Bug 909022] Re: Various akonadi processes use 100% CPU and 200% RAM at every KDE session startup
I have encountered this bug on two systems. One is a reasonably new Lenovo Laptop and the other is a very old Dell Desktop (specifications available if anyone is interested). On the desktop machine it started when I upgraded to Oneiric. My first two approaches was to install the Kubuntu-ppa and then the Kubuntu- ppa/backports. Neither did any good, the problem remained. When I check htop I find an insane list of processes; akonadi akonadi_agent_launcher, mysql-processes related to akonadi and so on. The only way to get a working system is to kill them all. I tried 'akonadictl restart' and 'akonadictl stop' with no noticeable result. But I have a vague memory of the laptop not having this problem any more. It was replaced with a newer model (that did not suffer from this bug) this last christmas, so I have not used it in some time. [Bug 909022] Re: Various akonadi processes use 100% CPU and 200% RAM at every KDE session startup
In trying to find a solution, I turned to !Kubuntu, !Kde and #Akonadi on Identi.ca. http://identi.ca/conversation/90218452#notice-90451182 As you can see I ended up configuring a cron-job to run a script file with the following: killall -9 akonadi_agent_launcher akonadiserver akonadi_control akonaditray akonadi_maildispatcher_agent akonadi_nepomuk_feeder Worked like a charm, but it was set to run every second minute, quite unnecessarily. But then I got a new suggestion. http://identi.ca/conversation/90237050#notice-90451490 http://identi.ca/notice/90452298 And it worked. So the simple solution is to go to ${HOME}/.config/akonadi/akonadiserverrc and disable Akonadi. It does not fix the bug, but it gives you a working system. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to akonadi in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/909022 Title: Various akonadi processes use 100% CPU and 200% RAM at every KDE session startup To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/akonadi/+bug/909022/+subscriptions -- kubuntu-bugs mailing list kubuntu-b...@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/kubuntu-bugs

[Bug 775747] Re: Kubuntu Natty is not installable/bootable on HP Pavilion dv6-3105er laptop
We have a HP Pavilion dv6 at work, with a Wubi-installation of Kubuntu on it. When I performed an ordinary upgrade from 10.10 to 11.04 it broke. Now it will not boot. It halts and the keyboard does not work. Finally I removed the installation and tried to install 11.04 via Wubi from scratch. The in-Windows part of the installation works well, but when the second part after booting Kubuntu for the first time commences, it halts to a complete stop. Every time I reboot, Kubuntu tries to complete the installation, but it halts at the same place. I pressed [ESC] to see the messages during boot, and you find what I see in the attached log file (copied by hand). When Kubuntu reaches this stage, I have to use the physical power button to turn the laptop off. The messages on screen differs slightly from time to time, but it always crashes at the same point. [Bug 240154] Re: Won't run but apt-get does
Good news: when I add ubuntu804 to my hosts line 127.0.0.1 synaptic does work. Bad news: When GUI network tool network-admin is used to add the domain bob the first line of the hosts file is changed to "127.0.0.1 localhost ubuntu804.bob" and synaptic no longer works. The settings probably were changed somewhere along the way because I change networks several times a day and sometimes by simply opening, browsing and closing the network tool Ubuntu connects. I have an ISDN and a satellite connection. Neither is anything to brag about but one works best for some things and vice versa. ISDN is setup around the local bob workgroup. Also if I put in ubuntu804 twice both are changed to ubuntu804.bob. I am fairly new to this bug reporting process. Should I simply alter the original description/tags or should I be adding a comment as I am doing here. [Bug 240154] Re: Won't run but apt-get does
After setting my first line in /etc/hosts to "127.0.0.1 localhost ubuntu804.bob" I rebooted. I rebooted because I noticed that sometimes everything works even when the hosts file is changed but not after reboot. After reboot the hosts file was as above. Synaptic would not run from the menu in System/Administration. However, update-manager did run from the menu, accepted a login when pressed "Check" and ran the check. Afterwards, Synaptic then ran from the menu. Did this twice, same thing: Reboot Synaptic wouldn't run update-manage did run Synaptic now runs That sounds like a bug to me. -- Won't run but apt-get does https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/240154 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
Re: [Bug 240154] Re: Won't run but apt-get does
When I click on the menu for synaptic an icon (starting administrative application) shows on the panel with the other open programs as if it is attempting to run then the icon disappears and nothing more happens (satellite modem connection see below). I can normally repeat this several times. I never have gotten "starting without administrative privileges". Yes this is very strange. Ready for "Outer Limits", it gets stranger. My hunches led me to some more bizarre checks after I noticed when connected to the Toshiba ISDN router (64k) everything worked properly. Later after reconfirming that there were problems when attached to the WildBlue satellite modem (They claim broadband and it is if you need to download an .iso but pings are 1300ms, 1.5m) I completely disconnected the network cord and both programs loaded and would ask for the password just as they did on the ISDN connection. The ISDN router is set up for a workgroup called "bob" but no other computers are connected to the router. More: When I simply attached the cord to ISDN router, or satellite modem or disconnected entirely, I found that I could repeat the good and bad behavior as long as I didn't actually type in the password in both programs and instead clicked "Cancel". Naturally, once I had typed in the password both programs would work without even displaying the password cue. Summary: ISDN router = both programs work Not connected = both programs work Satellite modem = synaptic doesn't work but upgrade-manager works about 50% of time (See "Additional strangeness" below). I prefer to use the satellite connection for upgrades and installs because it is much faster which probably led me to filing the original bug report. Additional strangeness: Synaptic almost never works when connected to the satellite modem. I say never because I almost think on one of the 20 or so attempts it did. Right now update-manager loads 100% of time and about 50% of the time it asks for a password when I press "Check". After I press "Cancel" I can repeat the press "Check". If it doesn't do the check properly the program hangs, I get the spinning ball, and then I am forced to issue a "killall update-manager" to stop the program. Now that I think about it this may have something to do with the way the program is polling the ISP considering those long ping times. There might be a timeout function that needs tweaking. BTW this computer almost never crashes and as far as I can tell has no stability problems. Firefox works reasonably well considering the long ping times and large files download well. I should have warned you from the beginning that strangeness is the norm for me. Thanks for sticking with me on this. I can confirm this bug in Ubuntu 9.04. I'm using a Pinnacle PCTV capture card using the bttv driver. Right after a reboot, tvtime will only output static as sound, but if I run these commands: sudo modprobe -r bt878 bttv sudo modprobe snd_bt87x sudo modprobe bt878 and then run tvtime, I will get sound as normal.
