[Bug 934883] [NEW] Application drop down menus font colors do not follow theme (xubuntu)

2012-02-18 Thread Joost Van Durme
Public bug reported:

I'm sorry for not knowing to which package this can be contributed to, I
just have a screenshot.

Using Xubuntu 12.04 latest updates. Greybird theme.
E.g. in gedit, the font colors of the items in the dropdown menus are almost
unreadable because they are too dark and should be white-ish.
Also the icons for saving, opening, etc... have a light rectangle around them.
I suppose they should be transparent.

See screenshot for example.

cheers!

[Bug 941412] Re: Human theme does not apply in some apps (e.g. gedit, nautilus)

2012-03-05 Thread Joost Van Durme
Well with the new MyUnity tweak tool, it is now possible to change themes in
Ubuntu (not talking about xubuntu) on the fly. And it will seem weird to people
that many themes just don't work because they can't handle gtk3.
But if you can port human-theme to gtk3, I will be forever grateful. ;-)
I just love this theme as it's near perfect for usability and heavy desktop
work.
I guess there are no tutorials about porting a theme from gtk2 to gtk3?

[Bug 1101697] [NEW] Laptop fails to suspend after kernel upgrade

2013-01-19 Thread Joost Van Durme
Public bug reported:

With following kernel versions, my laptop does not suspend anymore.
When I press suspend, the screen turns black but the laptop still runs and the
fan is still going. Closing and opening the lid brings the system back.

These kernels have the problem:

linux-image-3.2.0-34-generic-pae
linux-image-3.2.0-35-generic-pae
linux-image-3.2.0-36-generic-pae

This was the latest version where suspend worked well:

linux-image-3.2.0-33-generic-pae

So for now, I still use linux-image-3.2.0-33-generic-pae. That means
less secure.

I'm using Ubuntu 12.04.1 LTS on a Lenovo W500 laptop with a ATI Radeon
HD3635 card.

Please let me know if you need more info.

I'm also experiencing this issue e.g. with opening Synaptic. Thanks for opening
this topic.
The password dailog box almost always loses focus immediately.

Don't know if it's the same issue, but when opening Nautilus, the new
Nautilus window sits only in the background on my window list panel. It
is not showing on top or having focus.

12.04, Gnome fallback, no effects (metacity).

I don't sense too much fixing activity ...

[Bug 742544] Re: Launcher is shown on the wrong screen in some multi-monitor setups

2012-01-12 Thread Joost Van Durme
Hi Daniel,

I'm using 11.10 with an ATI card (Radeon HD 3650) and I'm having this issue.
I installed the fix from your ppa, but no luck.

Basically, the launcher is always on the left screen (as specified by xrandr)
and the --primary flag (this is my way of defining the primary monitor) of
xrandr is ignored by unity.
And I would like my rightmost external monitor to be the primary screen.

Any ideas on this matter? Would benefit really a lot from it.

Thanks!

HI Daniel,

the grep command does not give me any output. I did however install all the

I dragged the black bar in Display settings to the right external monitor but

Did I miss something perhaps?

2012-01-13 Thread Joost Van Durme
Ok I see what's happening now. The dpkg command tells me the fix is installed,
but it seems to be only for Unity3D, not for Unity2D.
And I'm using Unity2D since Unity3D is heavily slowed down with ATI cards using
the fglrx driver. Moving windows is chunky.
I logged back in with Unity3D and the launcher is now on the correct screen.
Unfortunately I have to use 2D because the graphics are too slow in Unity3D
with my card.
Any chance on a fix for 2D, Daniel? :-)

[Bug 917655] Re: clicking on quicklist bookmark does not give focus on nautilus

2012-01-17 Thread Joost Van Durme
Right-clicking on the nautilus launcher icon and then left-clicking on:

- a custom bookmark
- documents, downloads, video, music, pictures, home

does not open Nautilus. Well, nothing happens actually.

Nautilus does open when you click on "Home Folder" or "Open A New
Window"

Is this the same issue as you, Pavol?

Precise Alpha 1, updated all packages.

[Bug 917655] Re: clicking on quicklist bookmark does not give focus on nautilus

2012-01-18 Thread Joost Van Durme
Hi Didier,

sorry to say that it still doesn't work as expected. I am able to open
e.g. the Documents folder from the quicklist once, but not more than
once after I close Nautilus.

What I did:

1. Start a new session
2. Right-click on Nautilus launcher icon and select "Documents", this opens
Nautilus with Documents folder opened
3. Close Nautilus
4. Right-click on Nautilus launcher icon and select "Documents", this does
nothing anymore

Daniel, it doesn't seem to work for 12.04 right now. Are you aware of that?
I mean, dragging the black bar to the right most external monitor has no
effect. Launcher stays on the left laptop screen.

[Bug 908650] Re: "System Settings" window cannot resize

2012-07-09 Thread Joost Van Durme
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 936257 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/936257

This inconsistency also annoys me and I found a little workaround.
Edit this file:

/usr/share/gnome-control-center/ui/shell.ui

In the beginning you will see these lines:

System Settings
False
preferences-desktop
center

Add this line after the last property:

1000

And modify the resizable line to:

True

This will fix the width to 1000 pixels or whatever you enter and make
the window resizable. You can also play with the height_request
property, similar to width_request. It won't remember anything when you
resize though. It will always open at 1000 px width. But at least the
damn scrollbar is gone and all icons are visible.

cheers peepz.

[Bug 940829] [NEW] gtk-3 artefacts with xubuntu themes

2012-02-25 Thread Joost Van Durme
Public bug reported:

Hi all,

it seems that there is still a glitch when using xubuntu xfce4 themes on gtk-3
apps.
Please find some screenshots with the nautilus window when using greybird and
MurrinaFancyCandy. But any shipped xubuntu theme will have this.
With greybird, there is a black space where it should be white in the file
list. Breadcrumbs area in nautilus is fine.

  Hi all,

it seems that there is still a glitch when using xubuntu xfce4 themes on
gtk-3 apps.
Please find some screenshots with the nautilus window when using greybird and
MurrinaFancyCandy. But any shipped xubuntu theme will have this.
With greybird, there is a black space where it should be white in the file
list. Breadcrumbs area in nautilus is fine.

[Bug 926695] [NEW] Make "Show Desktop" detect active windows instead of just toggle Desktop/All windows

2012-02-04 Thread Joost Van Durme
Public bug reported:

Right now the Show Desktop feature (through button or Ctrl-Alt-D) behaves like
a regular toggle and nothing more.
So, one click will minimize all windows and the next click (even if I reopen
windows) will show all windows again.

This leads to the following anomaly:

1. Open three windows e.g. 2 terminals and gedit
2. Click on Show Desktop > All windows minimize
3. Open a new window (any app) or make a minimized window active (unminimize)
4. Click on Show Desktop

Observed: All windows are brought back

Expected: All windows are minimized

So basically, when there is at least one window active, the Show Desktop
should detect this and reset itself so that the next time it is clicked,
it minimizes all active windows and shows the desktop as is expected >
Gnome 2 behaves exactly like this (Ubuntu 10.10).

The Show Desktop should not reset itself when no window has become
active (so all windows minimized) after Show Desktop was clicked to
minimize all windows. In that case, clicking Show Desktop again may
unminimize all windows.

I hope I made it somewhat clear. As Show Desktop behaves right now, it
is unconsistent in my opinion.

Thanks!

[Bug 91784] Re: The modal behavior of "Show Desktop" is confusing

2012-02-05 Thread Joost Van Durme
Hi all,

is this still in progress? I would like to see the behaviour also changed so
that it detects any open window and resets itself so that the next click on
Show Desktop minimizes everything. It's like this in metacity and windows.
I probably filed a duplicate bug here:

https://bugs.launchpad.net/compiz-core/+bug/926695

More info on the issue in that post, please read if you are confused here.
I also strongly believe that the Show Desktop button should be smarter instead
of being just a toggle.
It should reset its state to 'inactive" when a new active window has been
detected so that any next click will minimize everything.

[Bug 91784] Re: The modal behavior of "Show Desktop" is confusing

2012-02-05 Thread Joost Van Durme
Thanks Icek for post #36. This is a nice workaround when you can put such a
launcher in a panel. Mine is xfce4-panel, so I'm good now.
However, it is not a good solution for the Unity launcher, since once the
button is pressed, it will remain unclickable for a few seconds --> button
lights up a few times. And you want such a button to be instantly clickable.

There is a workaround for the context menus in gnome-terminal NOT to
open upon pressing F10, it is in post#8 of this thread:
https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=129872

Create a new file: ~/.config/gtk-3.0/gtk.css, then add this:

@binding-set NoKeyboardNavigation {
unbind "F10"
}

* {
gtk-key-bindings: NoKeyboardNavigation
}

Close all terminal windows and restart terminal.

[Bug 1195725] [NEW] Nautilus window jumping with dual monitors

2013-06-28 Thread Joost Van Durme
Public bug reported:

Not sure whether this is a Nautilus bug or window manager bug, but here
goes ...

A bug report has already been filed at askubuntu :
http://askubuntu.com/questions/279641/nautilus-dual-monitor-issue

I have a dual monitor setup (big desktop style where mouse goes from one
screen to the other) in Precise 12.04.2 with my laptop on the left and
external screen on the right. I have an ATI Radeon HD3635 card using
fglrx drivers and I'm always using the Gnome Classic (No effects)
environment.

What happens:

1. Open Nautilus program on ext screen and maximize it
2. The Nautilus window jumps to the laptop screen

What should happen:

1. Open Nautilus program on ext screen and maximize it
2. The Nautilus window should stay where it is. On the ext screen.

When it doesn't happen:

1. Open Nautilus program on ext screen and make sure it's not maximized
2. The Nautilus window stays on the ext screen

I also have a startup script doing this:

/usr/bin/xrandr --output CRT1 --right-of LVDS
/usr/bin/xrandr --output CRT1 --primary

Where CRT1 is the ext screen and LVDS is laptop screen.

Any help is appreciated, even more because Precise stays supported until
2017. And it's an annoying bug. ;)
