[Bug 855943] [NEW] Installing then uninstalling FGLRX makes Oneiric's Unity unbootable
Public bug reported: I was attempting to test this bug: https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/781384 by installing FGLRX via jockey- gtk. After I found that there were no fixes (still), I went back to jockey and uninstalled FGLRX. However, upon rebooting, I found that Unity would not load. Applications had their title bars, however and were able to be moved. I ran a terminal and ran "unity" and was received various "Compiz couldn't load plugin X : could not locate libgl.so.1" etc. I checked on a live USB of mine and this file doesn't exist in a standard install. The only way I could find to fix it was to reinstall the FGLRX driver to get things to work temporarily. (Which i did not want to do because of aforementioned bug). [Bug 870693] Re: Ayatana-Scrollbar-Thumb should appear INSIDE unmaximized-windows
I can give you one good reason to have it outside the window: I was rating songs in Rhythmbox the other day, maximized. EVERY time I went to rate a song, the thumb would appear OVER the fifth star and I would have to wait for it to time out. At least if I were to un-maximize and move the window far enough form the edge, the thumb would not hinder my working with content, which is, I'm sure, the desired intent. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/870693 Title: Ayatana-Scrollbar-Thumb should appear INSIDE unmaximized-windows To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/overlay-scrollbar/+bug/870693/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 870693] Re: Ayatana-Scrollbar-Thumb should appear INSIDE unmaximized-windows
A little of column A, a little of B. You have to understand, there is a design to all these things. There's a reason for it appearing. Even if you do not agree with it. The reason it appears is there to tell people that option is there. If Maximized, it does appear over content, but there isn't an easier way of doing it so it fades out. In this particular case, yes, the thumb WAS immediately clickable. If you go with your proposed "fix" it would remove some usability. Think of it this way: should a button NOT be shown because it's not immediately clickable? Because I'm not in the button's area? The overlay scrollbars are designed primarily for the majority of users that find themselves with touchpads with two-finger scrolling and mouses with scroll wheels. What you propose is a step backward. Of course, this is my opinion, but this-- and your other bug-- should be marked as invalid. However, as this is obviously a personal disagreement and I have no input into the actual development or design of overlay scrollbars, I'll leave it to you. ;) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/870693 Title: Ayatana-Scrollbar-Thumb should appear INSIDE unmaximized-windows To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/overlay-scrollbar/+bug/870693/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 870693] Re: Ayatana-Scrollbar-Thumb should appear INSIDE unmaximized-windows
"this is the approach that ubuntu developers took with the Global/Application Menu." Still largely experimental/ design is still being worked on. And, part of the reason it is designed to be hidden is to de-emephasize over- reliance on menus. Not a vaild point. Though, that last point of mine is valid: the overlays are meant to de- emphasize the thumb. (In a way, don't take this statement too literally. ) How is usability hurt? Is it not practice for you to touch with pointer or finger whatever you're interacting with? What about the semi-hidden nature of the thumb suggests otherwise? NOTHING I can think of in computer design says that something appearing should coincide with it being clickable or even usable. Personal preference is not necessarily proper design. Unless there is a truly valid reason why it should never be there unless it is clickable, you really should mark this invalid.

[Bug 781384] Re: active/inactive window decorations are wrong, do not update (only fglrx)
The situation appears to be worse in Oneiric for me. I'm using Ambiance and updated to the FGLRX driver to test this. Now, the widow title bar is not updating at all. I opened Nautilus to the Home folder and switched to a new folder: no update. I minimized and restored the window: no update. (Which, if I remember, Compiz recently switched to NOT de-mapping the window on minimize, so that is why the "workaround" for updating the title bar that worked in Natty is not working in Oneiric.) I used the Ubuntu theme switcher, the title bars updated... But all the issues persist after the theme switch caused that one and only update. [Bug 843031] [NEW] Various wireless issues
Public bug reported: I have Oneiric and Natty installed to my computer. In Natty and Maverick, i never had issues with wireless, even when I was using the prerelease versions (I suppose that's because they were more or less the same components between those two distros) But in my new Oneiric install I am getting many show stopping wireless issues. I'll detail them in the order I encountered them: First, when I'm at home, I typically use a Droid X mobile wifi hotspot functionality to connect to the internet. I have input the correct pass word and made sure all the settings are the same as in my Natty install, but all that happens is the indicator endlessly shows it's trying to connect and occasionally a pop up shows asking for the password. I still have yet to get it to connect to the phone's hotspot. Next, When I am connected to a regular router, sometimes, the connection will begin acting up and slow down to nothing with VERY occasional spikes of activity. Making it impossible to do anything online. The only thing I've found to fix it is plugging into an ethernet cable for some reason. When i first tried to fix the above, i toggle the hardware switch for my wifi and when I managed to get it back on, the NM-Applet would just say "Device Not Ready" (But if I toggle Airplane Mode in the System Settings network pane, it will connect in the slow manner described above. Finally, there was an instance where I simply couldn't connect to ANY password protected wireless at all (it would do what it does with the DroidX hotspot and endlessly try to connect. For reference, obtained my wireless/ethernet card data from "lspci": 02:00.0 Network controller: Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd. RTL8191SEvA Wireless LAN Controller (rev 10) 03:00.0 Ethernet controller: Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd.
