[Bug 770283] Re: [fglrx]title bar does not update on non-maximized windows

2012-04-07 Thread Jonathan Meek
I think this is too late to hope to get into Precise. We can hope for an
SRU, but I don't know who to talk to about that.

2012-02-18 Thread Jonathan Meek
@pavolzetor: please try switching your wallpaper to something else and
see if it uses the new look, if it does, before switching back to your
old wallpaper, restart your system to "fix" the issue. If it still
persists, leave this bug open, if not, please close the bug.

Scratch the above comment: switching walls resulted in a uniform black-
ish texture used no matter which wall was on and restarting did nothing.
Still getting a blue bubble with my current wallpaper.

[Bug 1282897] [NEW] Column sort arrows are the opposite of what is expected

2014-02-20 Thread Jonathan Meek
Public bug reported:

This was brought up on Unity-design... On most other platforms, the sort
arrows show the opposite graphic for order than is shown in Ubuntu.
http://i.imgur.com/jx4tnMM.jpg

Steps to Repro
1. Open Files
2. Change view to list
3. Sort the date column

What is Expected:
The arrow should match up to the designs present in example image

What happens:
Arrows are the opposite to what is expected.

I don't believe sort columns are available in the new UI toolkit yet,
but this is something that will need to be tracked for that as well.

[Bug 1242243] [NEW] In fullscreen, the buttons/overlays do not appear

2013-10-19 Thread Jonathan Meek
Public bug reported:

This may be targetting the wrong thing because they do appear on another
computer. Anyway:

1. Play video in Totem
2. Double click to fullscreen said video
3. Move mouse.

What happens:
Nothing.

What is expected:
Overlays displaying the scrubber, pause, and leave fullscreen options/buttons
should appear.

Now, as I said, I DO NOT have this issue on another computer with Saucy
installed. This issue also exists on Raring on the machine it's being
reported on. I believe this may not be Totem that is the issue in that
case, but I can't think of what else to solidly report the bug against.

Will be more than happy to perform more tests to give more information.

UPDATE: So, I plugged up my laptop to my TV to watch a video and
fullscreened it. Turns out, it prevents the mouse cursor from appearing
(this happened in the single-monitor scenario) but even after moving the
cursor to the non-fullscreened display, the cursor still did not appear.

I have a sort of similar issue: In a multiple monitor setup, whenever a

when the menus close.

[Bug 1244558] [NEW] Multiple applications showing controls in the sound indicator

2013-10-25 Thread Jonathan Meek
Public bug reported:

Steps to reproduce:
1. From default Saucy, install Banshee.
2. Run Banshee.
3. Quit Banshee.

What is Expected:
4. Banshee should remain in the sound menu, but as a single line executable
item like in Raring.

What happens:
4. Both Banshee and Rhythmbox (the app set as the default) show sound controls,
creating an unnecessarily longer menu.

Not sure if this is a design choice, but it seems bordering on
frivolous.

In 13.10, the new light themes are not showing the separators when a
dark menu is displayed.

Steps to Repro:

[Bug 1244556] [NEW] Sound Indicator icon doesn't update

2013-10-25 Thread Jonathan Meek
Public bug reported:

Since upgrading to Saucy, the icon in the menubar doesn't update based
on the sound level

Repro steps:
1. change sound levels

What is expected:
2. Sound icon should change based on volume level

What happens:
2. Icon remains at same level it was at at log in.

Anecdotally, changing volume and then logging in and out will refresh
the icon. Muting also doesn't update the icon.

[Bug 960938] Re: Outline for selected indicator renders incorrectly when text is present

2012-03-21 Thread Jonathan Meek
Tried it, still have the issue. Interestingly, it doesn't happen with
all menu headings on the top bar... Using Firefox's menu, only the
"Bookmarks" heading appears incorrect (Same goes for Nautilus). The
Date-time and User-switcher indicators consistently appear incorrectly.

Perhaps it's something to do with the length of the indicator item? The
battery menu doesn't consistently show incorrectly.

For the record, I have my date-time indicator set to show the day and
12-hour time. If the issue doesn't show for those three items for
anyone else (nautilus' and Firefox's "Bookmarks" menu and date-time with
those settings) then, yeah, it might be me.

Yay for more updates: Broke my Oneiric install last night, decided to
axe all my settings files (except Chromium, Firefox, Banshee and my

suspended for the night, and tested idling today, screen cut off at ten

[Bug 855943] [NEW] Installing then uninstalling FGLRX makes Oneiric's Unity unbootable

2011-09-21 Thread Jonathan Meek
Public bug reported:

I was attempting to test this bug:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/781384 by installing FGLRX via jockey-
gtk. After I found that there were no fixes (still), I went back to
jockey and uninstalled FGLRX. However, upon rebooting, I found that
Unity would not load. Applications had their title bars, however and
were able to be moved.

I ran a terminal and ran "unity" and was received various "Compiz
couldn't load plugin X : could not locate libgl.so.1" etc. I checked on
a live USB of mine and this file doesn't exist in a standard install.
The only way I could find to fix it was to reinstall the FGLRX driver to
get things to work temporarily. (Which i did not want to do because of
aforementioned bug).

If you need any more information, I will be glad to pass it along.
Running up-to-date 64bit Oneiric.

[Bug 870693] Re: Ayatana-Scrollbar-Thumb should appear INSIDE unmaximized-windows

2011-10-08 Thread Jonathan Meek
I can give you one good reason to have it outside the window: I was
rating songs in Rhythmbox the other day, maximized. EVERY time I went to
rate a song, the thumb would appear OVER the fifth star and I would have
to wait for it to time out. At least if I were to un-maximize and move
the window far enough form the edge, the thumb would not hinder my
working with content, which is, I'm sure, the desired intent.

[Bug 870693] Re: Ayatana-Scrollbar-Thumb should appear INSIDE unmaximized-windows

2011-10-09 Thread Jonathan Meek
A little of column A, a little of B. You have to understand, there is a
design to all these things. There's a reason for it appearing. Even if
you do not agree with it. The reason it appears is there to tell people
that option is there. If Maximized, it does appear over content, but
there isn't an easier way of doing it so it fades out.

In this particular case, yes, the thumb WAS immediately clickable. If
you go with your proposed "fix" it would remove some usability. Think of
it this way: should a button NOT be shown because it's not immediately
clickable? Because I'm not in the button's area? The overlay scrollbars
are designed primarily for the majority of users that find themselves
with touchpads with two-finger scrolling and mouses with scroll wheels.
What you propose is a step backward.

Of course, this is my opinion, but this-- and your other bug-- should be
marked as invalid. However, as this is obviously a personal disagreement
and I have no input into the actual development or design of overlay
scrollbars, I'll leave it to you. ;)

[Bug 870693] Re: Ayatana-Scrollbar-Thumb should appear INSIDE unmaximized-windows

2011-10-09 Thread Jonathan Meek
"this is the approach that ubuntu developers took with the
Global/Application Menu."

Still largely experimental/ design is still being worked on. And, part
of the reason it is designed to be hidden is to de-emephasize over-
reliance on menus. Not a vaild point.

Though, that last point of mine is valid: the overlays are meant to de-
emphasize the thumb. (In a way, don't take this statement too literally.
)

How is usability hurt? Is it not practice for you to touch with pointer
or finger whatever you're interacting with? What about the semi-hidden
nature of the thumb suggests otherwise? NOTHING I can think of in
computer design says that something appearing should coincide with it
being clickable or even usable. Personal preference is not necessarily
proper design. Unless there is a truly valid reason why it should never
be there unless it is clickable, you really should mark this invalid.

Any update? We're two cycles out from when it was supposed to be
implemented and still seems to not be in the works.

Am really excited to see this implemented finally in a release.

[Bug 920398] [NEW] Update-manager doesn't stay in sync with Update-notifier

2012-01-23 Thread Jonathan Meek
Public bug reported:

When Update Manager already has items on display and a user selects from
the new Update-Notifier indicator, Update Manager will not update its
list accordingly.

Steps to reproduce:
1. Have at least one update in waiting.
2. Wait until a new update it pushed (without checking for updates on your
system)
3. Open Update Manager. (Still do not check.)
4. In the Indicator, choose the option "Check for Updates"

What happens:
A notification will pop up telling you of X number of updates, updating the
indicator, but leaving the Update Manager window still showing the original
number of updates.

What is expected:
Along with the refresh of update-notifier's indicator, update Manager's window
should update to the more current number of updates.

[Bug 960938] Re: Outline for selected indicator renders incorrectly when text is present

I can't do a video so I spliced together two images that demonstrates
the rendering issue: the left-hand date-time indicator shows a light-

right-hand messaging indicator whos the properly colored selection
outline (outlined in red) along the left side.

[Bug 960938] [NEW] Outline for selected indicator renders incorrectly when text is present

2012-03-21 Thread Jonathan Meek
Public bug reported:

When you have text in the indicator button/heading and you click on it,
the left side of the outline to signify that that indicator is selected
is visually wrong.

Repro:

1. Open the messaging menu
2. Notice there is a 1px or so outline around the icon to signify the menu is
selected/open
3. Open the User switcher indicator.

What happens:

4. Notice the left vertical line is not rendered correctly

What should happen:

4. The left vertical should be the same as the right: solid 1px black
line.

[Bug 843031] Re: Various wireless issues

2011-10-27 Thread Jonathan Meek
I apologize for the delay in getting back to this bug, but things have
interfered. Latest update is that I cannot continue to test it, I've
moved and no longer have/have to rely on a Droid X hotspot. Shall this
be marked as invalid?

[Bug 781384] Re: active/inactive window decorations are wrong, do not update (only fglrx)

2011-09-05 Thread Jonathan Meek
The situation appears to be worse in Oneiric for me. I'm using Ambiance
and updated to the FGLRX driver to test this. Now, the widow title bar
is not updating at all. I opened Nautilus to the Home folder and
switched to a new folder: no update. I minimized and restored the
window: no update. (Which, if I remember, Compiz recently switched to
NOT de-mapping the window on minimize, so that is why the "workaround"
for updating the title bar that worked in Natty is not working in
Oneiric.)

I used the Ubuntu theme switcher, the title bars updated... But all the
issues persist after the theme switch caused that one and only update.

[Bug 843031] [NEW] Various wireless issues

2011-09-06 Thread Jonathan Meek
Public bug reported:

I have Oneiric and Natty installed to my computer. In Natty and
Maverick, i never had issues with wireless, even when I was using the
prerelease versions (I suppose that's because they were more or less the
same components between those two distros) But in my new Oneiric install
I am getting many show stopping wireless issues.

I'll detail them in the order I encountered them:

First, when I'm at home, I typically use a Droid X mobile wifi hotspot
functionality to connect to the internet. I have input the correct pass
word and made sure all the settings are the same as in my Natty install,
but all that happens is the indicator endlessly shows it's trying to
connect and occasionally a pop up shows asking for the password. I still
have yet to get it to connect to the phone's hotspot.

Next, When I am connected to a regular router, sometimes, the connection
will begin acting up and slow down to nothing with VERY occasional
spikes of activity. Making it impossible to do anything online. The only
thing I've found to fix it is plugging into an ethernet cable for some
reason.

When i first tried to fix the above, i toggle the hardware switch for my
wifi and when I managed to get it back on, the NM-Applet would just say
"Device Not Ready" (But if I toggle Airplane Mode in the System Settings
network pane, it will connect in the slow manner described above.

Finally, there was an instance where I simply couldn't connect to ANY
password protected wireless at all (it would do what it does with the
DroidX hotspot and endlessly try to connect.

For reference, obtained my wireless/ethernet card data from "lspci":

02:00.0 Network controller: Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd. RTL8191SEvA
Wireless LAN Controller (rev 10)
03:00.0 Ethernet controller: Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd. RTL8101E/RTL8102E
PCI Express Fast Ethernet controller (rev 02)

My Oneiric is fully up to date, if there are any other tests you'd like
me to run, I'd be more than happy to.
