I did not try older versions of Ubuntu so I do not know whether older versions have the issue. I am happy to try older versions out. [Bug 938630] Re: Ubuntu loads acer-wmi on Sony laptop; WiFi not working
Neither /sys/class/leds, /sys/class/backlight have an entry related to acer-wmi. Specifically, $ ls -l /sys/class/leds/ σύνολο 0 lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 0 Φεβ 23 20:29 ath9k-phy0 -> ../../devices/pci:00/:00:06.0/:03:00.0/leds/ath9k-phy0 $ ls -l /sys/class/backlight/ σύνολο 0 lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 0 Φεβ 23 20:29 acpi_video0 -> ../../devices/pci:00/:00:01.0/backlight/acpi_video0 Even when I remove acer-wmi, those entries do not change. Some of the hotkeys of the laptop work, while other do not. There is no difference whether acer-wmi is loaded or not. a. Lock touchpad: does not work b. Mute/enable audio: works fine c. Decrease/Increase volue: works fine d. Decrease/Increase display brightness: it works, but it apparently is mixed with the "enable/disable screens" functionality. I have dual-head, and it changes the screen size or disables/enables the external display. e. External display shortcut: almost works f. hibernate shortcut: it invokes hibernation. Did not get the hibernation to work yet (might work) As the laptop has the AMD E450 CPU/GPU, I think it might not work with previous versions of Ubuntu. If there is more to be tested, I am happy to do so. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/938630 Title: Ubuntu loads acer-wmi on Sony laptop; WiFi not working To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/938630/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

ScrLk is shown in blue on the NumLk physical key, therefore to get ScrLk I physically pressed Fn+NumLk in order to get the ScrLk key. When I pressed Fn+NumLk, I got the following output from "keymap -i" scan code: 0x46 key code: scrolllock Although the keyboard emits 'scrolllock', the rest of the software does not interpret it as such, and the Scroll Lock LED is not lit up (and it's not working). >> The module (sony_laptop) controls these hotkeys that have NO effect >> >> scan code: 0x0C key code: fn_f1 # Should be 'touchpadtoggle' >> scan code: 0x10 key code: brightnessdown >> scan code: 0x11 key code: brightnessup >> scan code: 0x12 key code: switchvideomode > > Again, are these key codes what keymap -i prints, or what the keys > should be? These are what I get when I press the keys. The others look like the > keymap is correct, but the graphics driver doesn't actually know how > to change brightness; there's another bug report open for that, I'll > search for it when you confirm. > Thanks. I can test the fix for the touchpad toggle. ADDITIONS: 1. I just tested Fn+F7 (that produces "switchvideomode") with HDMI output and it works fine. 2. I also checked again Fn+F5/Fn+F6 (decrease/increase brightness) and I verified that they perform a "switchvideomode". That is, currently, on a dual-head setup, both Fn+F5/Fn+F6 work exactly like Fn+F7 (switchvideomode), instead of affecting the brightness. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/939868 Title: Sony VPCEL2S1E, some hotkeys not working To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/udev/+bug/939868/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Adding: I get the TypeError only when I try to install the "post-release updates" driver. I also tried with different locales in case the problem is specific to locale/translation; the problem is NOT specific to locales. [Bug 1187338] [NEW] Kernel panic / hard freeze lock with 3.5.0-31-generic (fglrx)
Public bug reported: I am running Ubuntu 12.10 with fglrx 13.4. The system works fine with the exception: If I run either kernels 3.5.0-31-generic or 3.5.0-32-generic, I get a kernel panic/hard freeze within about 5-30 minutes of using the computer. When the kernel panic occurs, the system is frozen. Neither the mouse, nor the keyboard are responding. I need to perform a hard reset in order to use the laptop again. Using an older fglrx driver, the system would freeze predictably within 5 minutes of running. With fglrx 13.4, it freezes within 10-20 minutes, predictably. I managed to get the kernel panic details using "netconsole": [ 233.858200] invalid opcode: [#1] SMP [ 233.858244] CPU 1 [ 233.858254] Modules linked in:[ 233.858271] pci_stub vboxpci(O) vboxnetadp(O) vboxnetflt(O) vboxdrv(O) rfcomm parport_pc ppdev bnep binfmt_misc kvm_amd kvm acer_wmi sparse_keymap microcode uvcvideo videobuf2_core videodev videobuf2_vmalloc videobuf2_memops ath3k btusb bluetooth joydev psmouse sp5100_tco serio_raw k10temp i2c_piix4 snd_hda_codec_conexant snd_hda_codec_hdmi snd_hda_intel snd_hda_codec snd_hwdep snd_pcm snd_seq_midi sony_laptop snd_rawmidi snd_seq_midi_event arc4 wmi video snd_seq ath9k snd_timer rtsx_pci_ms mac80211 ath9k_common ath9k_hw fglrx(PO) ath snd_seq_device cfg80211 memstick mac_hid snd soundcore snd_page_alloc amd_iommu_v2 netconsole configfs lp parport hid_generic rtsx_pci_sdmmc usbhid hid rtsx_pci ahci libahci atl1c [ 233.858767] Pid: 0, comm: swapper/1 Tainted: P O 3.5.0-31-generic #52-Ubuntu Sony Corporation VPCEL2S1E/VAIO [ 233.858802] RIP: 0010:[] [] perf_event_task_sched_out+0xe/0xa0 [ 233.858831] RSP: 0018:88010119fe70 EFLAGS: 00010002 [ 233.858842] RAX: 880106c939c0 RBX: 8801011931d0 RCX: 0001 [ 233.858852] RDX: RSI: 880097aa9700 RDI: 880101192e00 [ 233.858862] RBP: 88010119fed8 R08: R09: [ 233.858872] R10: 0001 R11: 0001 R12: 880106c939c0 [ 233.858882] R13: R14: R15: 0001 [ 233.858894] FS: 7f4fd8707940() GS:880106c8() knlGS: [ 233.858905] CS: 0010 DS: ES: CR0: 8005003b [ 233.858914] CR2: 7f4fd63ec009 CR3: abb04000 CR4: 07e0 [ 233.858924] DR0: DR1: DR2: [ 233.858934] DR3: DR6: 0ff0 DR7: 0400 [ 233.858946] Process swapper/1 (pid: 0, threadinfo 88010119e000, task 880101192e00) [ 233.858954] Stack: [ 233.858968] 81680053 880101192e00 88010119ffd8 88010119ffd8 [ 233.859004] 88010119ffd8 880097aa9700 880101192e00 88010119feb8 [ 233.859035] 88010119ffd8 81cd56a0 [ 233.859068] Call Trace: [ 233.859094] [] ? __schedule+0x283/0x7c0 [ 233.859113] [] schedule+0x29/0x70 [ 233.859130] [] cpu_idle+0xf0/0x120 [ 233.859148] [] start_secondary+0x1de/0x1e5 [ 233.859159] Code: 40 e8 77 ef 0b 00 48 89 df e8 af a6 0e 00 48 83 c4 08 48 c7 c0 f4 ff ff ff 5b 5d c3 90 55 48 89 e5 48 81 ec c0 00 00 00 48 89 5d 4c 89 65 f8 48 89 fb 49 89 f4 66 66 66 66 90 66 66 66 66 90 [ 233.859544] RIP [] perf_event_task_sched_out+0xe/0xa0 [ 233.859564] RSP [ 233.859578] ---[ end trace af095e725169674e ]--- [ 233.859591] Kernel panic - not syncing: Attempted to kill the idle task! I am affected as well with 13.10 (Daily - installed yesterday) while trying to install fglrx-updates. I remember the same issue happening with earlier versions of Ubuntu (perhaps 12.04).
