[Bug 420933] Re: Current grub-pc takes several minutes to show menu

2010-01-20 Thread Jayson
Will the fixed package be released in the Karmic repositories?

If not, and I add Felix's PPA to my installation, will I run into any
problems when I upgrade to Lucid and the latest grub-pc as included in
those repos in the spring?

Also, should this PPA be removed from my software sources before I
perform the upgrade to Lucid in April?

Thanks!

[Bug 420933] Re: Current grub-pc takes several minutes to show menu

2009-12-21 Thread Jayson
Just chiming in again. It's been 10 days since the last post & I'm
concerned that the correction of this regression will just float off
into the ether.

This issue has apparently been fixed upstream and in experimental
builds, but why not in Ubuntu 9.10+? Also, I'm concerned that Ubuntu is
using a beta copy of Grub2 while the latest build on gnu.org is 1.97.1
final.

I love my Ubuntu/XPsp3 box and don't want to break it by switching my
MBR to sdb (plus my wife will kill me :P ). Ubuntu 9.04 started
perfectly with Grub2 1.96.

I am seriously considering rolling back to Grub Legacy in the New Year.
Please escalate the priority of releasing a fix for this troubling
issue. If Ubuntu ever hopes to compete with M$...

[Bug 420933] Re: Current grub-pc takes several minutes to show menu

2009-11-14 Thread Jayson
I upgraded to Grub2 in Jaunty (version 1.96) some time before my upgrade
to Karmic thinking it would make the transition easier. XP on sda,
Ubuntu on sdb, MBR on sda (same as others here), Grub2 loaded almost
instantaneously (both drives are IDE in old HP PC).

After the Karmic upgrade and Grub 1.97 I now stare at "Grub loading" for
15 seconds before the menu appears. Additionally Karmic takes longer to
get to the desktop than Jaunty even without the Grub issue.

I could try the workaround and install grub to sdb, but I'm afraid I may
break something, and anyway I shouldn't have to since Grub 1.96 worked
perfectly! This is a regression that needs to be fixed!

2010-01-11 Thread Jayson
I can't understand how the status of this bug has been changed to "Fix
Released". When I did a search on packages.ubuntu.com, the fix
(1.98~20100101-1ubuntu1) has only been released to Lucid! Who here is
using Lucid on a production machine?

When will a fix be released for Ubuntu 9.10 Karmic Koala?

2009-08-05 Thread Jayson Williams
Here is the best solution I have found. For Jaunty Ubuntu xterm, right-click on
the terminal screen to bring up the terminal options. On the left panel, select
Advanced. Chane the Backspace Key Generates selection from Auto-detect to
Control-H. That works for an xterm. I am using a Screenlet terminal, so this
does not work for me. I suspect that my Screenlet terminal is hard coded to
autodetect the backspace key, with no options I have found to change it.
Hope this helps someone.

[Bug 61539] Re: Virtual Consoles still load at startup

2006-09-20 Thread Jayson Vaughn
I believe with edgy, there is no more /etc/inittab. This is probably
left over from your Dapper install. Edit your /etc/default/console-
setup file. There is a variable called
ACTIVE_CONSOLES="/dev/tty[1-6]" edit that to suite your needs,
reboot and that should fix it for you.

Thanks,

2006-09-20 Thread Jayson Vaughn
Ah ok. I left out an important step :) You must go into the directory
/etc/event.d/ and you will see files tty1 -> tt6. Edit all the tty
files that you do NOT want to be loaded on startup. Every line that
has a 'start' in front of it, comment that out. Also comment out the
'respawn' line at the end of each tty file that you do NOT want to be
initialized. I just tested this out leaving only tty1 and tty2 active
and it worked for me. Let me know how it goes!

I'm still getting used to the upstart init system myself :)

2006-10-06 Thread Jayson Vaughn
Gabriele,
Thank you for notifying the Ubuntu bug support. Unfortunately, after testing
the live bookmark RSS feeder with firefox 2 beta 2 (Bon Echo) I have concluded
that repubblica.it is the only site that I can find that is having this
problem. I also tested with news.yahoo.com and cnn.com and the Live Bookmarks
worked just fine. Due to the Nature of Firefox v2, the fact that it's in beta
testing, not all sites are going to be compatible with Firefox 2's features and
this is up to the site administrator and not Ubuntu. I would suggest you email
the site maintainer of repubblica.it and let them know what's going on.

Thank you for your bug report.

[Bug 153442] Re: home directory under "/media" folder makes desktop shortcuts open in gedit instead of starting application

2007-10-17 Thread Jayson Vaughn
Hello,
Thank you for taking your time to send this bug report.
I have verified this behavior on my Gutsy RC install (updated on Oct 17th) as
well.
I added a user:
1. system -> administration -> users and groups -> add user
2. created the user 'testing' with the home directory of /media/testing.
3. i logged in as the user 'testing' and Applications -> Internet, right-click
on "firefox web browser" and select "add this launcher to desktop"
5. when executing the desktop launcher, it will open launch gedit to edit the
.desktop file.

However, I did verify that this only seems to happen in the /media directory.
I am assuming this has to do with gnome-volume-manager. It uses /media to
mount it's allowed volumes.

I repeated the same steps above using /home2 directory as my base. The
results were as expected; upon executing the firefox desktop launcher -
firefox was started.

Public bug reported:

Hello people, I have a motherboard with onboard Attansic L2 Gibagit and
sometimes i have problems with internet.
Ex: When I try to connect a website i receive this message: "Name or service
not know", but all the websites works fine in another pc. In my dmesg i have a
lot of this message:

My attansic driver is detected with "wlan0" and no "eth0". I think that
is because I used ndiswrapper.

To connect at website or other service i writed a script in bash:

#!/bin/sh
for i in `seq 1 1000`
do
elinks -dump $1
done

And then, after some tries the service connect.

[Bug 116561] Re: not saving new repositories

2007-05-23 Thread Jayson Vaughn
Hello,
Thank you for your bug report. Very strange that it is not saving your input
to that file. Out of curiosity, could you open up a terminal and use "nano" to
edit your sources.list? This is a command line editor that is very easy to
use, all of the control characters used to save, exit, so on are labeled at the
bottom of the screen. Try to edit the file and save it using nano. ( nano
/etc/apt/sources.list ). If it fails, it should be able give you an error
message on why it is not saving.

[Bug 116561] Re: not saving new repositories

2007-05-24 Thread Jayson Vaughn
Hello,
Please go visit the instructions on that 3rd party repo. You need to download
the GPG key signature and add it using apt-key. You will need this key added
to apt before you can use this 3rd party repo. There should be instructions on
that repo's official home page. I am going to go ahead and reject this bug
report, since this bug is unable to reproduced. You are able to write to your
sources.list file.

I'd start with http://ubuntuforums.org/archive/index.php/t-396135.html
and double check the instructions and see how to go about adding the GPG
key so you are able to download from that repo.

Hope this helps.

[Bug 116564] Re: Trash applet : no warning when a file can't be deleted

2007-05-24 Thread Jayson Vaughn
Hello,
I understand what you're saying, the reason it was rejected is because this
issue cannot be reproduced. The nature of UNIX permissions, if the file didn't
allow you to delete it, neither nautilus or gnome-trash applet would be able to
remove it. The reason, I'm assuming, you were able to delete the file before
was a) You were apart of the same group as that file and it the group
permission was set to read-write or read-write-execute or b) The world, or all
other, bit was set to read-write or read-write-execute. I am simply unable to
make nautilus or gnome trash act as you described with a file or directory that
I do not own or have permission to modify. If you are able to and can
reproduce it, by all means please show us so this can be fixed.
Also you say that they both handle the situation differently, one gives a
warning and the other does not. I am a tad confused on this because I can not
even open a file with trash through nautilus or gnome trash applet. This is
the reason I set the bug to rejected.

Yes, I will definitely update the package, now that applets are
included.

I also need to do some changes to it anyway regarding how Ubuntu likes
it packaged.

[Bug 118589] [needs-packaging] avant-window-manager

2007-06-03 Thread Jayson Vaughn
Public bug reported:

Avant Window Navgator (Awn) is a dock-like bar which sits at the bottom of the
screen (in all its composited-goodness) tracking open windows.
Awn uses libwnck to keep a track of open windows, and behaves exactly like a
normal window-list
* Clicking an icon switches to that window, clicking again will minimise
the window
* Right-clicking will bring up a menu extactly like that of what you see on
the window-list, allowing you to max, min, close, resize etc the window.
* Dragging something on top of an icon will activate that window.
* Visually (and quite attractively) responds to 'needs attention' &
'urgent' events
* Can show windows from the entire viewport, or just the visible viewport.

Hello,
I believe that hwaddress is an option that is only allowed if you use "static".
I.e.
auto eth0

hwaddress ether 0cdb128acfe5

Please try this.

[Bug 569636] Re: 10.04 update failed to install

2010-04-26 Thread Jayson Williams
Here you go. My guess after getting things working, is an issue with my
ATI Radeon HD3200 video card. After the upgrade, my video was all goofy.
I previously had the proprietary ATI drvier installed when I did the
upgrade. After a few hours of tinkering, I was able to get everything
back. In the end, I needed to uninstall everything associated with
fglrx, reinstall fglrx, and then install the proprietary driver using
the Hardware dialogue. Doing this using the download from ATI caused
hours of headache I believe. I'm a novice at most of this so I may be
completely off base though.

[Bug 484366] [NEW] network connection randomly drops then restarts

2009-11-17 Thread Jayson Williams
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: network-manager

Package: network-manager (most recent ubuntu 9.10 version)
Ubuntu release: 9.10
Expecting solid consistent WiFi network connection while connected to a
wireless DSL router.
Experiencing random network connection drops, with the connection
reestablishing withing a few seconds

I have two linux systems connected to the internet through the same
router. A Nokia N810 running meamo linux, and an HP running Kubuntu
9.10. Over the course of an hour, the Ubuntu 9.10 system drops network
connection on an average of 8-30 times. The higher the transfer rate,
the more drops occur. The connection is usually reestablished within 5
seconds. During the same hour the maemo linux system never drops network
connection.

After trying several solutions found on the internet, with no success, I
replaced network-manager with wicd 1.6.1-3ubuntu1.

While using wicd, I have not experienced any problems with network
connection dropping. I believe there is a problem with network-manager.

[Bug 554925] [NEW] ubuntuone-preferences is messing with log files

2010-04-03 Thread Jayson Reis
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: ubuntuone-client

ubuntuone-preferences is reseting the logs and then syncdaemon stop
writing it.

How to reproduce:
Stop syncdaemon with u1sdtool -q
Execute u1sdtool -c and then wait syncdaemon fill up the log for a while.
Execute ubuntuone-preferences and then do a cat
~/.cache/ubuntuone/syncdaemon.log and will se only few lines for ever.
My guess is because ubuntuone-preferences is rotating (moving) the log. Why not
implement a logrotate conf to do that only once a day ? And after that it could
send a signal to syncdaemon to reopen the log file.

Thank You

[Bug 462407] Re: Some file types must be ignored (backups, vcs...)

That whould be good if we could specify which files we don't what to be
synchronized using regular expressions, so we can catch a lot of things.

[Bug 531706] Re: apache2 crashed with SIGSEGV in sapi_getenv()

2010-03-12 Thread Jayson Reis
Install zend-framework-bin and edit /etc/php5/conf.d/zend-framework.ini
uncommenting the second line which changes the include path.
After that, try to start apache in debug mode and you will find that crash.

I think that would be a php5 bug, because it's a libapache2-mod-php5
which is bugging.
