[Bug 420933] Re: Current grub-pc takes several minutes to show menu
Will the fixed package be released in the Karmic repositories? If not, and I add Felix's PPA to my installation, will I run into any problems when I upgrade to Lucid and the latest grub-pc as included in those repos in the spring? Also, should this PPA be removed from my software sources before I perform the upgrade to Lucid in April? [Bug 420933] Re: Current grub-pc takes several minutes to show menu
Just chiming in again. It's been 10 days since the last post & I'm concerned that the correction of this regression will just float off into the ether. This issue has apparently been fixed upstream and in experimental builds, but why not in Ubuntu 9.10+? Also, I'm concerned that Ubuntu is using a beta copy of Grub2 while the latest build on gnu.org is 1.97.1 final. I love my Ubuntu/XPsp3 box and don't want to break it by switching my MBR to sdb (plus my wife will kill me :P ). Ubuntu 9.04 started perfectly with Grub2 1.96. I am seriously considering rolling back to Grub Legacy in the New Year. Please escalate the priority of releasing a fix for this troubling issue. [Bug 420933] Re: Current grub-pc takes several minutes to show menu
I upgraded to Grub2 in Jaunty (version 1.96) some time before my upgrade to Karmic thinking it would make the transition easier. XP on sda, Ubuntu on sdb, MBR on sda (same as others here), Grub2 loaded almost instantaneously (both drives are IDE in old HP PC). After the Karmic upgrade and Grub 1.97 I now stare at "Grub loading" for 15 seconds before the menu appears. Additionally Karmic takes longer to get to the desktop than Jaunty even without the Grub issue. I could try the workaround and install grub to sdb, but I'm afraid I may break something, and anyway I shouldn't have to since Grub 1.96 worked perfectly! This is a regression that needs to be fixed! -- Current grub-pc takes several minutes to show menu https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/420933 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

I can't understand how the status of this bug has been changed to "Fix Released". When I did a search on packages.ubuntu.com, the fix (1.98~20100101-1ubuntu1) has only been released to Lucid! Ah ok. I left out an important step :) You must go into the directory /etc/event.d/ and you will see files tty1 -> tt6. Edit all the tty files that you do NOT want to be loaded on startup. Every line that has a 'start' in front of it, comment that out. Also comment out the 'respawn' line at the end of each tty file that you do NOT want to be initialized. I just tested this out leaving only tty1 and tty2 active and it worked for me. Let me know how it goes! Hello, Thank you for taking your time to send this bug report. I have verified this behavior on my Gutsy RC install (updated on Oct 17th) as well. I added a user: 1. system -> administration -> users and groups -> add user 2. created the user 'testing' with the home directory of /media/testing. 3. i logged in as the user 'testing' and Applications -> Internet, right-click on "firefox web browser" and select "add this launcher to desktop" 5. when executing the desktop launcher, it will open launch gedit to edit the .desktop file. However, I did verify that this only seems to happen in the /media directory. I am assuming this has to do with gnome-volume-manager. It uses /media to mount it's allowed volumes. I repeated the same steps above using /home2 directory as my base. The results were as expected; upon executing the firefox desktop launcher - firefox was started. ** Changed in: ubuntu Status: New => Confirmed -- home directory under "/media" folder makes desktop shortcuts open in gedit instead of starting application https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/153442 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Hello, Please go visit the instructions on that 3rd party repo. You need to download the GPG key signature and add it using apt-key. You will need this key added to apt before you can use this 3rd party repo. There should be instructions on that repo's official home page. [Bug 116564] Re: Trash applet : no warning when a file can't be deleted
Hello, I understand what you're saying, the reason it was rejected is because this issue cannot be reproduced. The nature of UNIX permissions, if the file didn't allow you to delete it, neither nautilus or gnome-trash applet would be able to remove it. The reason, I'm assuming, you were able to delete the file before was a) You were apart of the same group as that file and it the group permission was set to read-write or read-write-execute or b) The world, or all other, bit was set to read-write or read-write-execute. I am simply unable to make nautilus or gnome trash act as you described with a file or directory that I do not own or have permission to modify. If you are able to and can reproduce it, by all means please show us so this can be fixed. Also you say that they both handle the situation differently, one gives a warning and the other does not. I am a tad confused on this because I can not even open a file with trash through nautilus or gnome trash applet. This is the reason I set the bug to rejected. -- Trash applet : no warning when a file can't be deleted https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/116564 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Here you go. My guess after getting things working, is an issue with my ATI Radeon HD3200 video card. After the upgrade, my video was all goofy. I previously had the proprietary ATI drvier installed when I did the upgrade. After a few hours of tinkering, I was able to get everything back. In the end, I needed to uninstall everything associated with fglrx, reinstall fglrx, and then install the proprietary driver using the Hardware dialogue. [Bug 484366] [NEW] network connection randomly drops then restarts
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: network-manager Package: network-manager (most recent ubuntu 9.10 version) Ubuntu release: 9.10 Expecting solid consistent WiFi network connection while connected to a wireless DSL router. Experiencing random network connection drops, with the connection reestablishing withing a few seconds I have two linux systems connected to the internet through the same router. A Nokia N810 running meamo linux, and an HP running Kubuntu 9.10. Over the course of an hour, the Ubuntu 9.10 system drops network connection on an average of 8-30 times. The higher the transfer rate, the more drops occur. The connection is usually reestablished within 5 seconds. During the same hour the maemo linux system never drops network connection. After trying several solutions found on the internet, with no success, I replaced network-manager with wicd 1.6.1-3ubuntu1. While using wicd, I have not experienced any problems with network connection dropping. I believe there is a problem with network-manager. ** Affects: network-manager (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- network connection randomly drops then restarts https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/484366 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 554925] [NEW] ubuntuone-preferences is messing with log files
