Here you go. My guess after getting things working, is an issue with my
ATI Radeon HD3200 video card. After the upgrade, my video was all goofy.
I previously had the proprietary ATI drvier installed when I did the
upgrade. After a few hours of tinkering, I was able to get everything
back. In the end, I needed to uninstall everything associated with
fglrx, reinstall fglrx, and then install the proprietary driver using
the Hardware dialogue. Doing this using the download from ATI caused
hours of headache I believe. I'm a novice at most of this so I may be
completely off base though.
