[Bug 357780] [NEW] Alcatel x030 HSDPA Modem mounted as USB stick

2009-04-08 Thread Javier Pereira
Public bug reported:

When connecting Alcatel x030 HSDPA modem the system mounts it as a USB
stick instead of mounting it as a Broadband modem.

This problem is happening in Ubuntu 8.10. I think is happening with all
broadband modems which include software on it. Thus, the system thinks
it is a USB stick.

There is many information on the internet to solve the problem manually
(for example http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=884316&page=2),
but I will be great if the system could recognize the card
automatically.

No, it means that I'll upgrade to 10.04 and then verify if the bug has gone.
After that I'll update the ticket with relevant information.

I have the same error after upgrading to 10.04. This error was not
present in 9.10.

[Bug 357780] Re: Alcatel x030 HSDPA Modem mounted as USB stick

2010-05-03 Thread Javier Pereira
Well, the connection seems to be working in 10.04. However, I faced some
strange issue.
After upgrading to 10.04 I tried to connect the modem and the system mounted it
as a USB stick. So, following your advices I tried to unmount it to see if
after that the system would see the card as an HSDPA modem. However, when
unmounting the card in Gnome an error was displayed and the modem, so the
system didn't recognize the card anymore until an uplug/plug of the card
(unfortunately I didn't take a screenshot of the error).

Today I used a Huawei's HSUPA modem (E270) and the system recognized it as a
broadband modem from scratch (as 9.04 did). Then I remembered to update this
ticket, so I unplugged the modem from the usb wire and connect the Alcatel
modem on the same port, just to take a screenshot of the error and some logs.
To my surprise the system recognized the modem as a broadband modem instead of
a usb stick, as it did before.
I reseted the system to re-verify it and I didn't had any problems with the
modem, ubuntu always recognized it as a broadband modem just after plug it.

I don't really know what the system did when I connected through
Huawei's modem, but after that the problem with Alcatel's modem was
solved. For me the problem is solved, however some investigation might
be needed in order to know the root cause of the solution of the
problem.

Below these lines you can find relevant output of my dmesg in which you
can verify that ubuntu mounted Alcatel's modem as a broadband one:
