[Bug 554930] Re: Internal data error reported during the incident. CD failed to play, and is jammed in the player.
Hi Donald, Because you mentioned that you are a first time user of Ubuntu I'd like to welcome you to Ubuntu and also provide a little assistance for you. You mention the cd is stuck in the player. Do you mean that you cannot get the cd out of your computer when you press the eject button? If this is true you might want to try restarting your computer. After it restarts you should be able to press the eject button on the cd-drive of your computer... wait about 5 seconds... and the drive should open and give your disc back. If, after getting the disc back, you would be so kind as to recreate this bug so we can figure out the problem it would be most appreciated. We will need you to follow some "out of the ordinary" procedures so we can collect debugging information. 1. Open a terminal. Do this by clicking (at the top left hand side of your screen) "Applications", then click "Accessories" then click "Terminal". A terminal window will open. Please complete steps 2 & 3 inside this window. 2. Type the following without quotes "killall rhythmbox" then press enter 3. Type the following without quotes "rhythmbox--debug &> rhythmbox-debug.txt" then press enter Now rhythbox should start. Please insert your cd and/or do whatever you did originally to create this problem. 4. Once you have recreated the problem, then close rhythmbox, then you may close the terminal you opened. 5. A file was created when you did step 3. It is named "rhythmbox- debug.txt" Now you will need to attach that file to this bug report. Please visit this bug report on the launchpad website and click "Add attachment or patch". Then click the "browse" button and look for the file named "rhythmbox-debug.txt". [Bug 551217] Re: Messenger plugin
In case there is any confusion, the OP is reporting that the "IM Status" plugin for Rhythmbox does not "clear" the status that it sets in Empathy. If you start playing a song Empathy's status will get set to whatever you are playing. This is correct and normal behavior. However when you stop the song OR quit Rhythmbox the status is still set to the song you were previously playing. If the user is using Pidgin instead of Empathy then the status is cleared when you stop the song or quit Rhythmbox. This is the expected behavior. [Bug 548851] Re: IM Status plugin does not reset status message on end playback.
The problem seems to be this: file: rhythmbox/plugins/im-status/im-status/__init__.py -- def get_mc5_status (self): ... for acct in am.Get (MC5_AM_IFACE_NAME, "ValidAccounts"): ... if status[2] != "": return status[2] return None -- This algorithm is doing the following: Loop through all empathy accounts. If the status of the current account is not an empty string then return it and save it so we can restore it later. If we do not find an account with a status that is not an empty string then simply return None. the None value is implicitly used by this plugin to mean that we never saved the status in the first place, so we never bother restoring it. Here is the kicker: Empathy (MC5, rather) uses an empty string as the default status message. Even though the user is seeing the status as "Available"... status[2] is actually an empty string. The proper fix seems to be to change the return statement to return an empty string instead of None. NOTE: This patch has also been submitted upstream. ** Patch added: "Return empty string instead of None from set_mc5_status" http://launchpadlibrarian.net/43457899/rhythmbox-im-status-empathy-fix.patch ** Tags added: patch -- IM Status plugin does not reset status message on end playback. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/548851 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 623390] Re: terminal commands to change ownership & permissions from root to my user name/group aren't working even though I get a confirmation that they were changed.
Hi John, Thank you for taking the time to share your bug report. You seem to be trying to change the permissions on a file that lives on a Windows partition. Windows usually uses the NTFS file system. NTFS uses a permission/ownership model that is not really compatible with the Unix/Linux methods for permission/ownership. Here is a link that explains the situation somewhat, and offers a potential solution: http://askubuntu.com/questions/11840/how-to-chmod- on-an-ntfs-partition Since this is not really a bug you might want to search or ask about this in the Ubuntu Forums: http://ubuntuforums.org/. [Bug 632897] Re: Mouse acts as if clicked when moving across browser windows
Hi Michael, Do you happen to be using the touch pad on your laptop? If so... many touch pads interpret a rapid double tap as a mouse click and hold. If you happen to be accidentally double tapping on the touch pad just before you move the cursor to the edge of the screen that would explain the behavior you are seeing. If this is what is happening to you then you can control this behavior here: System -> Preferences -> Mouse -> Touchpad. Under the Touchpad tab there are several options, one of which is "Enable mouse clicks with touchpad". If you are not sure about this... you might try un-checking "Enable mouse clicks with touchpad" to see if the problem goes away. -- Mouse acts as if clicked when moving across browser windows https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/632897 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, we cannot work on this bug because your description didn't include enough information. We'd be grateful if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem. We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures At a minimum, we need: 1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the problem, 2. the behavior you expected, and 3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible). [Bug 666174] Re: password to connect to the internet appears twice
I've been noticing this problem as well. I believe the OP is referring to the Gnome Keyring password dialog. I find that it forces me to type my password 2 or 3 times before it will "accept" my password. The first time I type my password in the dialog goes away and immediately reappears just as though I had typed the wrong password. [Bug 603734] Re: Icons missing on gtk apps
I do not think this is a bug. A while ago the decision was made to turn off icons in menus by default for Gtk apps. The rationale was that the icons did nothing to clarify the menu entry's purpose and only cluttered the user interface. If you want to change this steting you can do the following: Run gconf-editor (alt+f2, then type gconf-editor), go to desktop>gnome>interface and checking 'menus_have_icons'.
