[Bug 298357] [NEW] Menus stop working after adjusting brightness using Fn keys

2008-11-15 Thread Jaroslav Šmíd
Public bug reported:

I use Ubuntu 8.10 and I have problem adjusting brightness using
Fn+Up/Down keys on my Dell Studio 1535 laptop. Brightness changes as I
press the keys, but OSD indicator (progressbar) begins to move to
max/min position when I stop pressing the keys. That would not bother
me, but the worst think is that after this no single menu/popupmenu in
gtk/gnome/xfce applications (I did not test it with qt/kde) is shown.
E.g. when I click "File" in firefox, "File" gets highlighted, but no
menu is shown. The same apply for gnome panel menus and other
applications. It happens no matter if compiz is enabled or dissabled.

Video card is Intel X31OO. Let me know if you need more information.

After update to final release, compiz just shut down (and took gnome-do panel

[Bug 340212] [NEW] Bad resolution over HDMI

2009-03-09 Thread Jaroslav Šmíd
Public bug reported:

I have Intel X3100 video card with HDMI output. "Display" configuration
tool in Ubuntu (tested 8.10 and 9.04 versions) allows me to set only
720x480 (480p) and once in a blue moon it allows 1920x540 (1080i). My TV
supports 720p (1280x720). It is possible to set 720p resolution in
Windows.

I tried to generate modeline using "gtf 1280 720 60" and adding that
mode using xrandr. When I set it using xrandr nothing is shown on TV and
xrandr does not show any error.

[Bug 339686] Re: Insufficient touchpad configuration tool

2009-03-10 Thread Jaroslav Šmíd
gsynaptics requires to add 'SHMConfig' 'true' to xorg.conf. There is no
input section for touchpad in xorg.conf by default and to have "real
xorg hotpluging" I'd better not have it there. Writing hal rule is so
complicated. I think, there should be rule for synaptics driver to
enable SHMConfig for hal by default.

[Bug 278522] [NEW] Some icons are too big

2008-10-05 Thread Jaroslav Šmíd
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: human-icon-theme

Eject icon in nautilus' side panel is too big, because icon theme does not
contain smaller. "OK" icon is too big on buttons (I set them to 16x16), because
icon theme does not contain smaller. I know this can be unimportant to you, but
it really is important for desktop user - I don't want to have several icons
bigger than other icons - it just looks terrible.
As you noticed, I don't like big icons - I am not glad to see 24x24 icons on
buttons - buttons are terribly huge then - I think lots of users would
appreciate if you changed them to 16x16 or at least give us possibility to
change them (in GUI, not in .gtkrc-2.0)

Don't know where the problem was, but one day, it started to work again.
I haven't updated jaunty since, but I'll do it soon (probably tomorrow).
I'll post the result then.

[Bug 340212] Re: [i965] Bad resolution over HDMI in Jaunty

2009-08-03 Thread Jaroslav Šmíd
Well, that didn't go too well. Got system freeze when the internal
display was disabled, nothing was shown on TV and couldn't access logs.
I will try to run X from the command line and redirect stdout and stderr
to flash drive and hope it gets synchronized before hard reboot.

2009-08-01 Thread Jaroslav Šmíd
I see I did it in vain, nothing has changed even now with 2.8 driver
available. Why do you tell me to download the LiveCD, test it, send that
log and then do nothing? And you keep bug marked as incomplete just to
have it expired and don't have to care about it...

[Bug 127967] Why no capital letters in user name?

2007-07-24 Thread Jaroslav Šmíd
Public bug reported:

Why It is impossible to add user with capital letters within the name?
For example, I want to have user "Jarda", with capital "J", not "jarda".
There are no restrictions in glib so why the installer don't allow it? I
have to manualy sed /etc/{passwd,passwd-,shadow,shadow-,group,group-}
files after installation and then it works, there are no problems with
capital letters in username, so give up capital letters check in the
installer, please.

** Affects: Ubuntu
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

[Bug 127978] Nautilus crash when changing directory

Public bug reported:

[Bug 129143] reiserfs filesystem gets corrupted after shutdown

2007-07-29 Thread Jaroslav Šmíd
Public bug reported:

Ubuntu 7.10

Sometimes, when I shutdown or reboot the computer, GRUB is loading a
long time and kernel is reporting errors on filesystem and won't boot. I
have to boot LiveCD and run reiserfsck on partition. It replays some
"transid" and then I can normaly boot to Ubuntu.

Grub loads, but slowly, because filesystem is somehow corrupted, but is
readable. Kernel is loading slow too and kernel won't mount root fs
because of errors. I'll try to remove savedefaults and will let you know
if it helps. Interesting is, that it hapens only sometimes.

[Bug 190979] [NEW] No boot screen

2008-02-11 Thread Jaroslav Šmíd
Public bug reported:

Hi. I tried last alpha version (4) of Ubuntu 8.04. After I choose to
boot ubuntu, screen immediately switches off and I can't see the boot
progress. It switches back on when starting X. I think it's because some
video card related problem - I got 2xGF8600GT in SLi mode and monitor
connected via DVI (videocards got 2 DVIs). It's happening in older
versions either. I hope it's gonna be solved before the final release.

BTW - Ubuntu is the only linux distro that correctly runs X with my
configuration, other distros choose the wrong video card as the output
one.

[Bug 201067] [NEW] Audigy 2 ZS - no more 5.1 upmix and bad sound

2008-03-11 Thread Jaroslav Šmíd
Public bug reported:

I've just noticed that ubuntu 8.4 doesn't upmix stereo to 5.1 by default when
5.1 repro is connected like the older version (7.10), which is bad, very bad,
because normal user doesn't want to edit some alsa configuration files. It
would be nice if there vere possibility to choose 5.1 upmix in
gnome-volume-properties. Also would be great if there were possibility to
change default soundcard (not only for esd, but for ALSA, so we could play
games on the _right_ soundcard (read not from the one integrated on MB).
Another difference from the previous version is, that the output sound is
somehow worse than it used to be. e.g. when listening to mp3s, sound is normal
for couple of seconds, then it "skips" second or two, then again normal, etc.
Like some buffer error, or maybe wrong frequency(?)

[Bug 204193] Re: sun-java 6 x64 crashes

2008-03-21 Thread Jaroslav Šmíd
It gives me error, that java was not found (it's directory is not in
PATH). But I have only one java installed (in
/usr/lib/jvm/java-6-sun-1.6.0.0.04 with java-6-sun symlink in the same
directory) and netbeans is configured to use this path as java home
directory. If I run java from that directory I get

java version "1.6.0_04"
Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.6.0_04-b12)
Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM (build 10.0-b19, mixed mode)

It seems to me that this is not usplash bug. When I add change splash
option to nosplash I get text output, but when I add "vga=795" it shows
nothing. It could be framebuffer bug.

[Bug 200709] [NEW] No sound after last update

2008-03-10 Thread Jaroslav Šmíd
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 200338 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/200338

Public bug reported:

After the last update of Ubuntu 8.04 (March 10, 2008) sound no more
works. I got 2 soundcards - one integrated (HDA Azalia 1.0 (RealTek
ALC883)) and Audigy 2ZS. After the upgrade neither of them is detected
by pulseaudio (if it even starts (i will get to this latter)).

They both used to be listed in gnome-sound-properties application, but
neither of them is listed there now. Mplayer with -ao also doesn't work
and ends with

[AO_ALSA] alsa-lib: confmisc.c:768:(parse_card) cannot find card 'Audigy2'
[AO_ALSA] alsa-lib: conf.c:3510:(_snd_config_evaluate) function

returned error: No such device

device
[AO_ALSA] alsa-lib: pcm.c:2145:(snd_pcm_open_noupdate) Unknown PCM default
[AO_ALSA] Playback open error: No such device

Alsamixer ends with "alsamixer: function snd_ctl_open failed for
default: No such device".

No /dev/dsp* is present in filesystem.

"asoundconf list" gives no list of soundcards.

No sound card modules are loaded (such as snd_emu10k1 for Audigy). If I
try to "modprobe snd_emu10k1" i get this:

Which "previous comment"? There is no previous comment! What information
do you need? I opened f-spot. It showed some window to import some
photos when it started. I chose to import "Obrázky" directory
(="Pictures"). After import, there was "Desktop" directory in my home
directory whitch shouldn't be there.

[Bug 91200] system freeze after DVD inserted

2007-03-10 Thread Jaroslav Šmíd
Public bug reported:

Ubuntu 7.04 Alpha
Asus K8N motherboard, 512MB RAM, GF6600GT

After I inserted data DVD (not dvd video), i got "Can't mount device, invalid
mount parameter" message. So I've edited "udf,iso9660" in /etc/fstab to "auto".
Now if I insert any data DVD i get total system freeze. Nothing is working
then, i can't even login using SSH. After restart system was unbootable,
because of inconsistent filesystem. I had to boot Ubuntu Desktop CD and use
"reiserfsck" on /dev/hda1 and /dev/sda1. Everything is fine then, untill i
insert some data dvd again. I'm not going to test in with CD, because I'm
worried of data-lost.
DVD succesfully mounts under Mandriva 2007 and ArchLinux.
I think, it is bug in HAL or even in kernel.

[Bug 531654] Re: Make shutdown and user menu separate applets

2010-04-04 Thread Jaroslav Šmíd
Well, this is good solution for me. But what if there were 2 (or more) users of
one computer and first one would like to have it hidden but second one would
like to have it shown.
C'mon, would it really be that hard to make it configurable? To program one
submenu with one or two checkboxes is question of at most 5 minutes and it
would really help. Or would you like users to yell "Hey, ubuntu is piece of *
as you can't remove IM status indicator without removing shoutdown menu", "you
can't remove envelope stuff without removing volume control". Not all ubuntu's
users know this cannot be hidden as they just watch the screenshot someone
makes. That could be why they don't report this as well, but when the final
version is released, I believe this will be number one people will hate about
Ubuntu. Not everyone want to be "part" of social networks.
But gess what, Sebastian, they won't fix it. They do not want to. As they
didn't want to fix that wallperer included in Ubuntu 8.10 with visible steps in
gradients as I reported half year ago, because it would add 1MB to ISO image
(which could be saved by not including mono and by including better
alternatives not dependent on mono). New wallpaper contains them again and
wallpaper is among first things users notice and it's part of "first
impression". And when you see the wallpaper, you just say - hey, they don't
care what people think. And they removed gimp (a lot of saved space), but not
because of wallpaper, but to include social piece of *. Why don't they just
make better wallpaper. What is problem with some kind of "nature" in the
wallpaper. There are not that visible jpeg artefacts. On "one color" wallpaper,
there are.
They just release it, because they get money from sponsors, not from most of
their users. They are not releasing Ubuntu for people, they are releasing it
for themselves. That is why they won't fix this bug as well.

---
I'm impulsive. I know it. I have personality disorder, but I had to say what I
thought.
