thanks elli222! your instructions made sense.

i also googled it, and found this howto: http://ariejan.net/2008/05/04
/how-to-compile-packages-on-debianubuntu-by-hand/

different method, but same end results.

[Bug 285417] Re: [intrepid] gtk2-engines-ubuntulooks can't be installed

2008-12-04 Thread Greg Unger
i've noticed this bug as well. i'm currently running linux mint
felicia, and i can't install the latest update to mint-artwork-gnome
because it depends on ubuntulooks.

@ elli222: i would be interested in your deb packages. or if you could
point me to the location of the control files in the respective source
packages i would recompile them myself (i'm not afraid of compiling
source, but i'm no whiz :) ).

[Bug 260073] Re: Laptop screen flickers when opening lid

I have the same laptop (Inspiron 6000) with the i915 intel video card.
I'm running Intrepid Alpha 6, and I have a problem identical to the one
the OP described. In addition to a bug in Xorg, could this bug be
specifically in the intel video driver?

I've attached the log for Xorg.

2009-03-04 Thread Greg Unger
@ MetalHellsAngel

Add Emilio's PPA to your sources.list. He posted a link to it earlier
in this thread.

Edit /etc/apt/sources.list with your favorite text editor, and add
"deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/turl/ubuntu intrepid main"
to the end of the file.

Then update and upgrade apt. Once you've done that, you should be able
to install ubuntulooks without any problems.

[Bug 134932] Re: Sonata fails to display/load album art

i fixed it on my own. in sonata's preferences, i had my music directory

up as "/var/lib/mpd/music/", which is a symlink back to /storage.

[Bug 175773] hardy release schedule wiki page

2007-12-11 Thread Greg Unger
Public bug reported:

for previous releases of ubuntu, the alpha releases were known called by
whatever word describes a large group of that animal - a herd of fawns,
a tribe of gibbons.

a large group of herons is sometimes called a seige, yet the

previous release schedule pages had called them by their names.

As well, the HardyHeron/Alpha1 page calls it Tribe 1 in the opener.

[Bug 103901] logout/in required to make desktop icons appear (xubuntu feisty)

2007-04-06 Thread Greg Unger
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xfdesktop4

When I select/deselect the icons that I want to appear on my desktop in
Xfce 4 Desktop Settings (xfce-setting-show), the changes are not
instantaneous, which is what I expect them to be. I need to log out and
back in for the settings to take effect. I'm guessing this bug is in

this behaviour seems counter-intuitive. In gnome, selecting the icons
that I want to appear on the desktop (via gconf) has an instantaneous
effect.

[Bug 96085] Re: [feisty] Ctrl-Alt-Backspace crashes gdm

2007-03-25 Thread Greg Unger
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 34859 ***

i run an up-to-date feisty on my dell inspiron 6000 (with aiglx, and the
i810 driver for my intel 915gma card). i've also heard of this
affecting people with nvidia cards, so this likely has little/nothing to
do with video card drivers.

[Bug 94002] Re: Fiesty logs-out when shutdown seleceted

2007-03-20 Thread Greg Unger
I have this problem too - running a (somewhat) fresh install of gnome
feisty on a dell inspiron 6000 laptop. the command "gnome-session-save
--kill" logs me out to GDM instead of presenting me with the options to
shutdown/restart/log out/lock screen/etc...

[Bug 94002] Re: Fiesty logs-out when shutdown seleceted

2007-03-22 Thread Greg Unger
a key in gconf had been set wrong. i had to change "/apps/gnome-
session/options/logout_prompt" from false to true. now "gnome-session-
save --kill" works as it should.

[Bug 139805] Re: GNOME Control Center fails to load

2010-03-14 Thread Greg Unger
Try a fresh installation of 10.04 beta, instead of an upgrade. As Pedro
pointed out, a faulty installation was the cause, not a bug in the
software.
