[Bug 511001] Re: [i855] Lucid Freeze shortly after X startup (needs KMS blacklist?)
Update to comment #42: After leaving the computer overnight, I found it in "graphics safe mode" (or whatever it's called) the following morning. The last part of dmesg read: [29429.364045] [drm:i915_hangcheck_elapsed] *ERROR* Hangcheck timer elapsed... With 2.6.34rc3-51 my system no longer deadlocks when playing video (855GM, forced KMS makes the system boot with standard Lucid kernel, as described in bug #511001). [Bug 476817] Re: [i855] [i855] [karmic] X freezes with intel 855GM videocard
Have any of you who have been trying 2.6.34rc3-51 experienced Xorg using abnormally much CPU time? With an idle (KDE) desktop, it seems to be consuming 10-30 times more CPU than with 2.6.32-22. It's hard to get an accurate measurement, but it's certainly qualitatively enough for my laptop's CPU fan to spin up periodically when the computer is just sitting there unused. [Bug 1182051] [NEW] Turning off eDP-1 causes stutter
Public bug reported: After upgrading to Raring, my X stutters a lot whenever the eDP-1 output is disabled (for example with xrandr). In this state, the kernel log is also filled with numerous messages regarding invalid EDID checksums. The behavior was not seen with Quantal. The problem also partially goes away with mainline kernel 3.9. I would describe the stutters as about 10 ms freezes occurring roughly every second. Meanwhile, dmesg sees a lot of "[drm:drm_edid_block_valid] *ERROR* EDID checksum is invalid, remainder is 48" and a few "nouveau E[ I2C][:01:00.0] AUXCH(1): tx req timeout 0x01114000". Behavior is restored to normal when eDP-1 is re-enabled. The problem was not seen in Quantal. Installing the 3.9 mainline kernel partially mitigates the problem, but brings other ones, such as a kworker thread pegged at 100% CPU. This could be unrelated. The drm_kms_helper.poll=0 boot parameter does not help with the standard Raring kernel, but is in fact neccessary with 3.9. The problem seems to be unrelated to whether or not there are multiple monitors attached, for example on DP-1 and VGA-1. A single monitor on either DP-1 or VGA-1 is enough to observe the stutter as soon as eDP-1 is disabled. (Simply leaving eDP-1 enabled is not an option for me, as it has to be disabled to use DP-1 and VGA-1 simultaneously on my laptop.) [Bug 885124] [NEW] kmenuedit does not correctly handle the OnlyShowIn field
Public bug reported: A KDE bug (#283579 [1]) makes it impossible to add new menu entries to the application launcher due to kmenuedit incorrectly handling the .desktop field OnlyShowIn [2]. I submitted a patch to the KDE bug tracker, but I guess it'll take time for someone to pick it up. Since it's a small and non-invasive patch that restores a pretty important feature (adding to the launcher menu), perhaps it can be considered for inclusion into an upcoming Ubuntu version of kde-workspace? [Bug 616287] Re: umountfs doesn't cleanly unmount / on reboot
Although I have not checked this thoroughly, it seems that logging out of KDE, switching to a text terminal, logging in there and issuing sudo poweroff induces a clean shutdown. [Bug 660299] Re: Missing dependency
Hi Pepe, I don't think what you're experiencing is related to this bug. At least adding a new feed works fine here. I'd recommend starting gpodder from a terminal so that you can watch for any error messages. Alternatively, I'd try working with a fresh config file (just rename ~/.config/gpodder so that you can rename it back after testing) to see if that changes anything. If not even the last option works, you should file a new bug, perhaps at bugs.gpodder.org. -- Missing dependency https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/660299 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

@Paul van Berlo. Regarding sshd, are you referring to bug #617515? I don't think they're related, because if I log out of my desktop environment (KDE), switch to a terminal and issue poweroff/reboot from there, I *don't* experience this problem (c.f. comment #13). [Bug 660299] Re: Missing dependency
Pepe: That's very strange. Maybe your theme is also missing the fallback icon I set in the first patch, a case I apparently didn't test well enough for. I'll see if I can find time to look into it. Thomas: Well, that's always the situation with any non-rolling release distro. If the changes aren't too invasive, how about creating a maintenance version "2.6.1" as well, changing nothing except fixing the icon problem? [Bug 660299] Re: Missing dependency
@platypuss72: I'd be happy to help. If you have added my PPA then you should be getting the patched version without having to apply the patch yourself. You can check that by running "aptitude show gpodder" (or find it somewhere in your favorite graphical package manager). If the Version field says 2.6-1ubuntu0gspr1, you have my patched version. In that case I must have missed some icon somewhere, and it would be nice if you could run gpodder from a terminal and show the output here. Hopefully I can then extend my patch. If the Version field does not end with "gspr1", then you don't have the correct version, and we should take the rest over private e-mail (see my Launchpad profile) so at not to annoy the others. -- Missing dependency https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/660299 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 660299] Re: Missing dependency
The root of this problem seems to be that gtkui/model.py tries to load the icon specified by gtk.STOCK_DIALOG_QUESTION if a given icon cannot be found in the current theme. As far as I understand (I've never worked with GTK), this tends to refer to the icon named 'dialog-question' (see the Freedesktop naming convention [1]). However, in at least two popular icon themes, Oxygen and Tango, this icon is presently *not implemented* [2]. Thus load_icon throws an exception that isn't handled, and the program hangs. I don't know what the nicest solution to this is, but the gPodder devs themselves suggest in their FAQ that one should simply install the Gnome icon theme and force usage of that [3]. This doesn't sound like a very nice approach to me; I mean, half the reason the Freedesktop icon conventions are around is precisely so programs can just refer to icons by their description, leaving it to the desktop environment to provide a consistent look and feel. I've attached two patches that I think take care of the problem in a nicer way. However, I have no experience with GTK or the gPodder code in general, so things should perhaps be done differently. PS: Should this bug perhaps be renamed? If one adds an extra icon theme dependency, users still have to force the use of it according to [3], which gives an inconsistent look (in the case of KDE a *very* inconsistent one).
