[Bug 48282] Re: digikam will not start with pictures stored on either an NFS or a CIFS disk

2008-07-03 Thread Fabien
Hi,

Some people here could be interested in testing the following patch with
0.9.4svn version :
http://mail.kde.org/pipermail/digikam-devel/2008-July/019511.html

This makes sqlite use .lock files for locking the database which is
supported on all platforms and filesystems. Use at your own risk...
Works for me :)

2008-06-03 Thread Fabien
There are more than 1300 bugs registered for the linux package in Ubuntu, so I
guess it's not that easy...
But, it's true that doesn't look very "professional" for a long term support
distribution.

I think the best is to build our own kernel and that's it :)

[Bug 51024] Konqueror thumbnail generation fails on video files (mjpg)

2006-06-26 Thread Fabien
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: libarts1-xine

When trying to open a directory in konqueror where are stored files from
a digital kamera, thumbnail creation crashes after the first video file
(only tested with motion jpeg avi files). It means other jpeg files
won't get a thumbnail...

If I remove libarts1-xine then, all thumbnails are generated except video
files.
I finally found the solution by installing libarts1-xine AND
libxine-extracodecs. With these extra codecs, thumbnails are also generated for
video files...

Note: this bug also cause troubles for softwares which use konqueror thumbnails
like digikam. See :

[Bug 199934] Re: Kernel Panic, in gdth (RAID) driver on reboot

2008-05-07 Thread Fabien
WOW, it doesn't just affect halt/reboot !
Try to run icpcon with linux_2.6.24-16.30 and it will instantly crash the
kernel (soft lock blah blah...).

Ok, here's how to fix everything :
1) get *official* 2.6.24.7 kernel and build a new kernel package (make-kpkg
works fine if you don't enable XEN in your configuration)

2) install it

3) remove bogus ubuntu kernel :
# apt-get remove linux-image-2.6.24-16-server
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
The following packages will be REMOVED:
  linux-image-2.6.24-16-server linux-image-server linux-server
linux-ubuntu-modules-2.6.24-16-server
0 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 4 to remove and 0 not upgraded.
After this operation, 77.9MB disk space will be freed.
Do you want to continue [Y/n]?
(Reading database ... 34538 files and directories currently installed.)
Removing linux-server ...
Removing linux-image-server ...
Removing linux-ubuntu-modules-2.6.24-16-server ...

4) Relax :)
No, I'm not sarcastic ;-)

To be more serious, 2.6.24.7 works perfectly and I can run icpcon and
reboot my server like in the good old days. Great, isn't it ?

2008-01-10 Thread Fabien
Thanks for your efforts.
In my environment, the problem is that the cups server is running on another
distribution, not on Ubuntu.
I must confess I still don't understand why there's no fix in
gnome-cups-manager which contains gnome-cups-icon
I fully understand there's a bug in cups, but that's not a reason for a client
to use 100% of CPU.
IMHO, this problem should also be fixed on the gnome part. But that's not your
responsability...

Anyway, I did something radical, I just removed the gnome-cups-icon
everywhere and that's it (I don't have any problem with KDE) :)

I also found this from debian :

On large networks, with shared CUPS servers, it might be desirable not to

gnome-cups-icon is launched by gnome-session by default, but this is
 configurable via gnome-session-properties.

gnome says that it's a cupsys problem. It's true, but this is not a reason to

Re: [Bug 51024] Re: Konqueror thumbnail generation fails on video files (mjpg)

Yes, I think so...
Thumbnails generation shouldn't crash even if it can't create thumbnail for
one type of file.
The main problem is that's very hard to find out how to solve it...
It should be, at least, in a FAQ.

[Bug 1820363] Re: NEC/Renesas PCI USB3 Cards (uPD720201) Host halt failed, -19

2019-03-31 Thread Fabien
Hello,

I can't produce more log because kernel hangs at startup. Can't start
computer without the PCI card and insert when powered on.

@Mike, The card has firmware 2.0.2.6 which seems to the last version.
She was provided with 2.0.2.0 and tried too with 2.0.2.4.
I updated to the last version using Windows on an other computer which has
PCI-X slots.
I tested this PCI card on a Gigabyte mainboard and an HP Proliant mainboard and
each time kernel hangs with the same error "Host halt failed, -19".

If you have some links I can try to update firmware of the card with
other releases.

I have too the PCIe version based on the same chip "Renesas Technology
Corp. uPD720201" and kernel is not hanging with the PCIe version. It
seems to be related to the PCI/PCI-X.

I never done a kernel bisection and will try to follow Ubuntu
documentation that I found.

Kind Regards

@Mike

Many Thanks for your answer.
The PCI-X is a 4 ports with 2 channels.
The PCIe is 7 ports with an unknown number of channels.

The PCI-X was intended to be used with a HP Proliant for external Backup
purpose which is running Ubuntu Server 18.04 LTS. No more PCIe slots are
available because they are used by the Smart Array RAID Controller.

I will try to revert back this weekend to 2.0.2.0 using the last
survival Windows.

But if I understand well what you mean I have no chance to get the PCI-X
adapter working with any kernel with a version > 4.9 ?

I really appreciate your help.
Thank you Mike.

[Bug 1914953] Re: grub2 incompatibility between at_keyboard and gfxterm modules lead to impossible to type passphrase or access ubuntu grub2 menu on a fully encrypted installation

2021-02-07 Thread Fabien
;terminal_input console" or removing gfxterm with
"terminal_output console" resolved the situation but typing such command as set
prefix=(memdisk), ... cryptomount -u xyzaabac, set
root='lvmid/Eh2HHw-Bceq-VfsK-Kz01-kaeg-dRbz-Rwcntf/nVAE5f-GOrJ-wvu3-RTN0-mzAe-G4Oo-mzTQrN'
and then passphrase without any typos erros at first attempt with a different
keyboard layout was a real challenge.
- => 2nd stage grub: Impossible to access grub menus, edit command and type
command in the grub console with at_keybord eg: "terminal_input at_keyboard" is
loaded even in 1st stage grub.
+ => 1st stage grub: Impossible to type strong passphrase as in test case [0]
but this time it's because gfxterm and at_keyboard are loaded at the same time
and each keystroke must be typed 7x or more times (sometimes more than 10 times
+ beep) to be taken into account, so impossible to know what you are typing
because nothing is printed at screen while you type your password. By accessing
grub minimal console due to a limited core.img and removing at_keybord with
"terminal_input console" or removing gfxterm with "terminal_output console"
resolved the situation but typing such command as set prefix=(memdisk), ...
cryptomount -u xyzaabac, set
root='lvmid/Eh2HHw-Bceq-VfsK-Kz01-kaeg-dRbz-Rwcntf/nVAE5f-GOrJ-wvu3-RTN0-mzAe-G4Oo-mzTQrN'
and then the passphrase without any typos erros at first attempt with a
different keyboard layout was a real challenge.
+ => 2nd stage grub: Impossible to access grub menus, edit command and type
command in the grub console when at_keybord (eg: "terminal_input at_keyboard")
is loaded even in 1st stage grub.

  Conclusion:
It seems that if grub at_keyboard module is loaded with "terminal_input
at_keyboard" (to load a custom keyboard layout tested with german, italian,
french ...) even only in the 1st stage grub ... it's almost impossible to
access any grub menu (edit command or console) in grub (same level) or even in
another child grub as the 2nd stage if grub gfxterm module is loaded too.

So, for international users typing a strong passphrase is almost
impossible without using something like "test123" or "qwerty123" and
keeping access on any child grub.

For me it's something like critical because I can use a secure
installation with all partition/data encrypted but I can't type a strong
passphrase (eg "C0udéeM+(@rpantÀ)") or access any child grub menu or
console if any grub at_keyboard module is loaded (at a upper level or at
same level) with a gfxterm module somewhere else (at same level or at a
  child level).

I found an old bug report at debian.org but it seems resolved with grub
2.02+dfsg1-11.
  https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=741464

I apologize for my english language mistakes.
  Regards,
  Fabien

X11/gdm login works fine with local accounts.

SSH/terminal console login with NIS accounts works fine.

I've seen several reports of such problems under other versions (eg
19.10), but no working solutions was found. It seems that the problem is
the same with lightdm.

[Bug 1882034] Re: cannot start X session with NIS account

2020-06-21 Thread Fabien
> Do you seem to observe https://github.com/systemd/systemd/issues/2941
?

The message is the same, but I cannot see a "hidepid" mount option
anywhere.

As a standard user I can see all /proc/ directories, and read
the /proc//cgroup file of other users, including root.

So I'd say that it is not exactly the same issue.

I'm facing exactly the same bug as these one:
https://www.mail-archive.com/linux-usb@vger.kernel.org/msg102138.html

I installed Ubuntu Server 18.04.2 without the PCI card without trouble
and then reinserted the PCI Card computer never start always
hanging at the same steps as above.

I managed to start only once time with the PCI card plugged by adding
"pci=nomsi" to the kernel command line using an Ubuntu Mate Live media

It was lucky because it never worked again.
PCI card was not working but computer started.

Here you can find included lspci -vv, lshw and full dmesg taken from
during this unique startup with the PCI Card.

I tried the same PCI Card with two computers and always had the same results.
Kernel is hanging with "xhci_hcd :0d:00.0: init :0d:00.0 fail, -19" and
nothing more.

I tried this PCI Card with a CentOS 7.3 on same computer and kernel
(3.10) is starting well and PCI card is fully working.

Many thanks for your assistance.
I apologize if it's an already reported bug.

Kind Regards

[Bug 1604333] Re: nm-applet crashes when connecting to a wireless network, around password prompt

2016-11-13 Thread Fabien
The "when connecting to a wireless network, around password prompt" part
is not obvious to me. The wireless connection works, then nm-applet
fails later on on the assert. I have not seen any password prompt.

[Bug 1550852] Re: apt-mirror does not reflect dep11/Components-* and dep11/icons-*

2016-05-17 Thread Fabien
This extension also breaks the simple use case where someone has a
mirror run on a Debian (ie not Ubuntu) box... Currently a mirror can
only work with a Xenial server, how short sighted.

Breaking compatibility with Debian was not a good move: it is a
"solution" which solves no problem I had, but creates some instead. I'm
not impressed.

Is there a plan to backport up-stream these stupid extensions to Debian?

[Bug 1547286] Re: 16.04 installer can't get past "Force UEFI installation"

2016-05-24 Thread Fabien
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1418706 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1418706

The computer had 1xSSD + 1xRAID1of2xHDD and i'm using manual partitionning.
What i do :
-create new PT on the SSD and the RAID,
-add EFI part on the SSD,
-add parts i need on both disks.
-next and the pop-up...

I've finally have my fresh install, with this method :
-create new PT on each disk,
-add FAT32 part on the SSD (NOT EFI),
-add parts you need on disks,
-next and a pop-up about the missing EFI -> go back,
-select the first FAT32 part mensioned above, modify to EFI,
-next and install :)

Hope this helps...

[Bug 859512] Re: Please convert libdbusmenu to multiarch

2011-12-08 Thread Fabien
Hi,

could you please make the fix available for Oneiric ?

I'm running 32bit eclipse RCP Application on my 64bits system and i've
multiple errors in the console

I'm not sure what's affected in the application apart from responses on the
first navigation actions in some parts of the UI.
After a while, the actions have a normal response time and the application is
normally usable.

I've tried to install the :i386 versions of libdbusmenu* packets, but
dependencies suggest to uninstall too many things...

Thanks.

He are some output. Let me know if you need more explicit or particular trace.

ok, i've not read the the mozilla messaging policy on bugs lifecycle, you may
be right.
Maybe the policy is false or maybe the bugzilla "reopen" feature should not be
available...

I'm bored by that functional breakdown in the Master Password mozilla's
product feature : i've already voted for 4 bugs related to that since
2006...

I'm switching to #682474 and waiting for bug triage...

[Bug 576531] Re: netdiscovery: relocation error & segfault

2010-10-23 Thread Fabien
Maybe that bug is caused by a static linking with the libc.

I find this bug report on the debian list :
http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=589143#10
The error appears in a same manner and the explanation seems to be clear.
(i've found it by reading this bug report :
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/eglibc/+bug/574726)

So, could the binaires provided by Samsung or by tweedledee
(http://www.bchemnet.com/suldr/) provide the needed libc version ??

This bug seems to affect many persons. The thread in the ubuntuforums has more
than 50 pages !

[Bug 576531] Re: netdiscovery: relocation error & segfault

2011-01-06 Thread Fabien
Yeah! cool! :) This works for my CLX-3175N.

Thank you for this workaround, Wolf!
I hope it will hold on to the next libs and links updates. i was bored to
remove my libnss_files.so.2 after the ubuntu update...

i will try to write to Samsung about this issue (even if i know that
they don't care)

[Bug 2055012] Re: When I upgraded from 22.04 to 24.04, DNS resolution went wrong.

2024-09-23 Thread Fabien
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 2054761 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2054761

I have the same issue on multiple hosts, including my laptop, with
intermittent DNS failures depending on the command used, after upgrading
to 24.04. The fix is rather unclear.

For a laptop which connects and reconnects to different networks, this is a
pain.
For a server, this is also a pain. I understand that `cloud-init` recorded

Notably, it seems (?!) the DNS configuration do not match DHCP settings,
so it is unclear from where cloud init got it.

[Bug 295490] Re: Liferea doesn't start with "Aborted" error.

2008-11-13 Thread Fabien Tassin
I'm getting the same Abort. I tracked it down to a sqlite3 version mismatch in
xulrunner.
See
http://mxr.mozilla.org/mozilla-central/source/storage/src/mozStorageService.cpp#68

The problem comes from both a/ xulrunner-1.9.1 and b/ liferea.
I guess those who don't have xulrunner-1.9.1 installed are not seeing this.

a/ Liferea is built with the xul "static glue", meaning it will use the newest
xul engine registered in /etc/gre.d.
If you have both xulrunner-1.9 and xulrunner-1.9.1 installed, liferea will
start with 1.9.1.

The problem is that while xulrunner-1.9 is built with *system* sqlite3
(3.5.9), xulrunner-1.9.1 is built with *in-source* sqlite3 (3.6.4).

3.6.* is needed for various reasons (mostly performance improvements)
but unfortunately, 3.6.* is not in Ubuntu (yet). That's the reason I
decided to go for in-source sqlite3 in xulrunner-1.9.1. As liferea is
built with system sqlite3, but goes for xulrunner 1.9.1 at run time, it
gets the version mismatch.

The problem could be solved in Jaunty by uploading sqlite >= 3.6.4 and
rebuilding xulrunner 1.9.1 (so it automatically jumps back to system sqlite3 -
there's a test at build time for that).
For Intrepid and Hardy (for which I provide xulrunner 1.9.1 through my PPA) I
guess I can re-add a workaround we had at some point in xulrunner-1.9, which
was to provide a libsqlite3.so.0 symlink toward the libsqlite3.so inside the
xul libdir. The same work-around will work in jaunty too, while we {wait
for,work on} the sqlite 3.6 update.

That's where the liferea issue kicks in. It will only work if liferea
finds its libs (in particular sqlite) in the xul libdir.

b/ If you look at the /usr/bin/liferea wrapper, it tries to set LD_LIBRARY_PATH
to the xul *devel* libdir, which is not supposed to exist in user setups. It
gets that at build time using pkg-config --libs-only-L libxul-embedding.
This is wrong.

I have a fix for that, which is to identify the xul libdir at runtime,
by asking xulrunner itself.

Here is attached the debdiff for Jaunty. It would be nice to update
intrepid too.

[Bug 295490] Re: Liferea doesn't start with "Aborted" error.

2008-11-14 Thread Fabien Tassin
I updated the debdiff after further tests. The tricky part is that
liferea must choose the right libdir, matching the one GRE prefers, but
xulrunner* --gre-version only reports its own version, i.e. -1.9 will
return 1.9.0.x while -1.9.1 will return 1.9.1x. It just means we have to
try the newest first.

Both liferea and xulrunner-1.9.1 are in my PPA for testing, respectively
1.4.18-0ubuntu3~fta2 and 1.9.1~b2~hg20081113r21632+nobinonly-
0ubuntu1~fta3

[Bug 302859] Re: Epiphany: Failed to instantiate LoginManager

2008-11-27 Thread Fabien Tassin
I guess you have xul 1.9.1 installed.

I'm seeing that too.

$ strace -f -F epiphany-browser |& grep xulr
read(16, "[1.9.0.3]\nGRE_PATH=/usr/lib/xulr"..., 76) = 76
access("/usr/lib/xulrunner-1.9.0.3/libxpcom.so", R_OK) = -1 ENOENT (No such
file or directory)
read(16, "[1.9.1b2]\nGRE_PATH=/usr/lib/xulr"..., 76) = 76
access("/usr/lib/xulrunner-1.9.1b2/libxpcom.so", R_OK) = 0
lstat("/usr/lib/xulrunner-1.9.1b2", {st_mode=S_IFDIR|0755, st_size=4096, ...})
= 0
lstat("/usr/lib/xulrunner-1.9.1b2/libxpcom.so", {st_mode=S_IFREG|0644,
st_size=18704, ...}) = 0
...

$ ls -fl /etc/gre.d/
total 36
drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 4096 2008-11-27 17:18 .
drwxr-xr-x 147 root root 12288 2008-11-27 17:53 ..
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root76 2008-10-13 17:59 1.9.0.3.system.conf
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root76 2008-11-26 22:14 1.9.1b2.system.conf
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root82 2008-11-14 04:34 1.9.1b2pre.system.conf
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root76 2008-11-04 01:45 1.9.0.4.system.conf
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root82 2008-11-14 04:34 1.9.1b2pre-restored.system.conf

so epiphany tries 1.9.0.3, fails, then 1.9.1b2, succeeds and fails later
on because it's not compatible.

ephy should restrict itself to 1.9.0.* for now.

In embed/mozilla/mozilla-embed-single.cpp:

static const GREVersionRange greVersion = {
  "1.9a", PR_TRUE,
  "2", PR_TRUE
};

use 1.9.0.* instead of 2.

[Bug 226267] Re: /var/run/milter-greylist perms issue

2009-01-30 Thread Fabien Tassin
Apparently, it's still in jaunty (I keep hitting that on all my ubuntu
boxes) so I re-open:

ii milter-greylist4.1.8-2ubuntu1

r...@cube:/etc/mail # /etc/init.d/sendmail start
 * Starting Mail Transport Agent (MTA) sendmail
451 4.0.0 /etc/mail/sendmail.cf: line 1770: Xgreylist: local socket name
/var/run/milter-greylist/milter-greylist.sock unsafe: Group writable directory

this is bad as the box boots and end-up with sendmail dead and it's easy
to miss.

In /etc/init.d/milter-greylist I see:

if [ ! -d /var/run/$PNAME ]; then
   mkdir /var/run/$PNAME
   chgrp greylist /var/run/$PNAME
   chmod g+w /var/run/$PNAME
fi

so this is obviously wrong, and it comes from a local patch:

[Bug 94494] Re: [needs-packaging] Songbird

2009-06-19 Thread Fabien Tassin
I don't see this bug moving at all, and I'm not expecting a fix anytime
soon :(

So in the meantime, as I'm still interested by this project, I've created a
dedicated PPA with daily builds of Songbird:

note that it would be nice to have this backported to Jaunty as it's
crashing there too.

oh, it's because it's a debdiff against the last ubuntu version. I can

Sorry for the confusion. Please sync then.
