[Bug 260962] [NEW] Gnome Terminal won't accept lowercase 'a' key.
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-terminal Following updates on August 22, 2008, the Gnome Terminal will not accept a lower case 'a' key. Capital 'A' works fine, and the lowercase 'a' is accepted in every other application on my desktop including Tilda. gnome-terminal is launched using the default launcher with the command "gnome-terminal". There are no parameters supplied to the application from the launcher. I am using the default profile for the terminal. The only changes I have made are: 1) Through the Appearance Preferences tool I have set the fonts to the following: Application font: Sans : 7 Document font : Sans : 7 Desktop font : Sans : 6 Window title font : Sans Bold : 7 Fixed width font : Monospace : 7 Use Subpixel Smoothing. 2) I have set a custom prompt in my .bashrc of : PS1=\[\e]0;[EMAIL PROTECTED] \[\e[33m\]\w\[\e[0m\]\n\$ At the time the problem was noticed, the only application that had been launched following a sucessful launch was Gnome-Terminal. The lowercase 'a' is the only key that is not accepted by the Gnome- Terminal. [Bug 260962] Re: Gnome Terminal won't accept lowercase 'a' key.
I can replicate the problem as root, but not as another user. That said, it appears to be a settings issue where the update or another action screwed up some settings for gnome-terminal somewhere. A co-worker indicated there may be a key mapping file which gnome- terminal uses that has been corrupted. While this seems plausible to me, I would not know where to look for a file which is common to the root user and myself, but not to a new user which I just created. Any/all hints and suggestions are greatly appreciated. Until I get this working, my Ubuntu system is mostly useless (I'm over 85% CLI and not GUI work). -- Gnome Terminal won't accept lowercase 'a' key. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/260962 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 292474] Re: Firefox 3.0 Menu Buttons disabled
I'll go one better. Before I even attempted to report this to you, I uninstalled Firefox completely and reinstalled. Once it was reinstalled and the problem appeared to be in the application, I uninstalled again, went through and deleted all mozilla and firefox related folders in my home folder, /etc, /usr/lib and /root folders. Then went through and verified that there was no /usr/share/firefox or related folder on my machine. And just to be sure things weren't "cached" in memory, I rebooted the box into recovery mode, reverified everything, then rebooted back to the GUI. Once the box was rebooted, I did the following from an xterm: # sudo apt-get install firefox After this was completed I rebooted again Then launched Firefox (again from the xterm so I could see any error messages). The problem continued to exist. There were no error messages. Pages I attempted to visit: http://www.google.com http://www.cnn.com http://www.wikipedia.com During page loading, the "Stop" icon never activated. Once each page was loaded I either clicked a link or manually typed another page into the address bar. Again, the "Stop" icon never activated Once the second page was loaded, the "Back" button never activated. I used the History menu to move backwards to the first page. When on the first page, the "Forward" menu button never activated. -- Firefox 3.0 Menu Buttons disabled https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/292474 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 292474] Re: Firefox 3.0 Menu Buttons disabled
DO I NEED TO EXPLICITLY SAY I DIDN'T INSTALL ANY! Read the details above and you should realize that I didn't install any extensions on my last two tests. Extensions are installed in the mozilla and firefox related folders under my home folder and under /usr/lib. Both of which were explicitly removed by me. I don't know how I can be more explicit than to say THE ONLY THING INSTALLED IS WHAT UBUNTU INSTALLS WHEN YOU INSTALL THE FIREFOX PACKAGE! Therefore, I am experiencing this using the default Ubuntu Firefox 3.0.3 installation. No extra extensions. No extra theming. No extra plugins. It is as if the default sort order (A-Z by Package Name) only applies when not searching and searching uses it's own sorting order. [Bug 223678] Re: Monitor issue (fglrx\c)
I also have this issue: Setup : Gateway M460 ATI Proprietary Driver Laptop monitor 1280x800 (primary) Dell FP1905 (1280x1024) (secondary) Each monitor hosts separate session. Personally, I don't know if it's a problem in the ATI driver, or the Screensaver program. Since the driver works fine with lock/unlock on a single monitor, And since the lock never locks the second screen (I've watched processes continue to run on the second screen following a lock request), And since the same driver appears to work without issue on the dual- screen configuration under 7.10, The problem appears to reside in the Screensaver/Lock process not requesting the lock in the same manner as 7.10. Otherwise, it would indicate that the driver I installed is different under 7.10 than under 8.04 (highly unlikely since in many of my tests I use the same .deb file and xorg.conf on both platforms). -- Monitor issue (fglrx\c) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/223678 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 137179] Re: 2.6.1-1ubuntu3 makes apps crash with Bus error
I just ran into this issue on my x86_32 box (Gateway M460) when I upgraded to libc6-2.6.1-1ubuntu10 in Gutsy. I just built the box from scratch yesterday using the Alternate install CD, loaded some additional programs (Java, Azureus, ATI restricted driver, etc...) and did sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get upgrade Part way through the upgrade process (199 files left to upgrade) it tried to update e2fslibs to 1.40.2-1ubuntu1.1 Once it finished the "Setting up e2fslibs (1.40.2-1ubuntu1.1) ..." operation and started "Processing triggers for libc6 ..." i received the following lines: ldconfig deferred processing now taking place Segmentation fault (core dumped) dpkg: subprocess post-installation script returned error exit status 139 after 5 or 6 retries and attempts to use "dpkg --configure -a" and dpkg --configure libc6", the only way I could get past the problem was to reboot into a recovery mode (gdm disabled) and reinstall. This corrected the first issue. I then rebooted the machine and completed the "apt-get upgrade" process, then for good measure re-ran both the "apt-get update" and "apt-get upgrade" processes again. After one final reboot, gnome-terminal fails with the "Bus error (core dumped)" Using "sudo aptitude reinstall libc6" corrected this issue for now. -- 2.6.1-1ubuntu3 makes apps crash with Bus error https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/137179 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
