RE: [Bug 924030] Re: laptop will not boot using any kernel newer that 3.2.0-6
I cannot even get Precise to load up in VMware on this machine. Oneric works fine, but not precise. Guess I'm stuck with win 7 until advanced format technology is supported better. If I had known or thought of this I would have just bought a different disk. I'll try to download a new .iso of precise and set up a vm this weekend. //Eddie -Original Message- From: boun...@canonical.com [mailto:boun...@canonical.com] On Behalf Of Brad Figg Sent: Friday, February 17, 2012 4:00 PM To: eddiekane...@gmail.com Subject: [Bug 924030] Re: laptop will not boot using any kernel newer that 3.2.0-6 Thank you for taking the time to file a bug report on this issue. However, given the number of bugs that the Kernel Team receives during any development cycle it is impossible for us to review them all. Therefore, we occasionally resort to using automated bots to request further testing. This is such a request. We have noted that there is a newer version of the development kernel than the one you last tested when this issue was found. Please test again with the newer kernel and indicate in the bug if this issue still exists or not. You can update to the latest development kernel by simply running the following commands in a terminal window: sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get upgrade If the bug still exists, change the bug status from Incomplete to Confirmed. If the bug no longer exists, change the bug status from Incomplete to Fix Released. If you want this bot to quit automatically requesting kernel tests, add a tag named: bot-stop-nagging. Thank you for your help, we really do appreciate it. ** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu) Status: Confirmed => Incomplete ** Tags added: kernel-request-3.2.0-16.25 -- You received this bug notification because you are subscribed to the bug report. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/924030 Title: laptop will not boot using any kernel newer that 3.2.0-6 Status in “linux” package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: upon boot I will either get: A) a frozen purple screen, forcing met to push power button to power off B) a GRUB menu, and when selecting any kernel other than 3.2.0-6 i boot into a black screen with a blinking white cursor on the top left. when attempting to follow instructions below i get following error: :~$ cat /proc/version_signature > version.log :~$ sudo lspci -vnvn > lspci-vnvn.log [sudo] password for: pcilib: sysfs_read_vpd: read failed: Connection timed out * :~$ lsb_release -rd Description: Ubuntu precise (development branch) Release: 12.04 * --- AlsaVersion: Advanced Linux Sound Architecture Driver Version 1.0.24. Update: I rebooted computer and resumed my work and the mouse froze up again. I repeated the same steps I posted in #2 and the touchpad was working again. This is just going to take some sorting. Re: [Bug 926673] Re: Oneric 11.10 will not boot properly
Every time I try to start up the pc I get a blank purple screen first. Then I have to press the power button to shut the pc off manually. When i start it up again it boots to grub menu. When I select kernel it goes to black screen with blinking cursor on top left. I then manually shut down and repeat until I get the Ubuntu welcome screen where I can log in. I tried that, now its taking like 7-10 times before I can get in, and when I do my video is all messed up. Here is the boot info. [Bug 926673] Re: Oneric 11.10 will not boot properly
After multiple attempts I can not get Oneric to work properly on my Asus. Precise will boot but being an alpha is subject to failure. Unfortunately, I formatted the drive, again, and re-imaged the drive to windows 7 (Pro out of box). I will wait until Precise becomes more stable to put it on my main laptop. If anyone has any suggestions as to what the issue may be, I'm open to help as I hate Windows more than I can explain. I believe the issue is with my Advanced Format HDD, below is the link to the drive on Western Digital's site: http://wdc.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/search/1/a_id/2526# Maybe the issue is with the .iso CD/DVD/USBs that I created for Ububtu? Any help would be greatly appreciated, I will run Ubuntu in a VM until I can get this sorted out. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/926673 Title: Oneric 11.10 will not boot properly To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/926673/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
Re: [Bug 879387] Re: Partitions misaligned on advanced format drive WD20EARX
I have had the same issue with WD's advanced format HDDs since Oneric (precise as well). Have spoke to WD and according to them misaligned extended partition was an error with dusk utility because 'parted - print ' showed the main partition beginning at sector 2048 which is divisible by their 512 sector size for those drives. I was basically told that if I was not experiencing issues to ignore it. Note: the person I spoke with was not regular tech support but a member of their staff who just happens to use Ubuntu. I have posted a bug on this and he commented on it.
