[Bug 251031] Re: evolution 2.23.5 crashes on startup
So, how does a mere mortal with Intrepid, like myself, fix this issue? Since I upgraded to Intrepid this plugin has stopped working altogether. If I start the plugin manually from a terminal it immediately kills the Evolution (if it was running, of course) and if it is started prior to running Evolution then the Evolution won't start. I'm not good at "building" or "touching" anything, to me those two words represent more labor than what I'm willing to "commit" to in front of a computer. Joking aside, if someone wouldn't mind coming up with a patch script that I can easily apply I would appreciate that very much. For now I'm forced to use the standard mail notification in the systray, but I'd like this one better because it shows (at least it used to) in my Awn Notification area of the Avant Window Navigator 3.1. [Bug 251031] Re: evolution 2.23.5 crashes on startup
jsteinhart, Excellent work, I very much appreciate that. It worked fine, except that I rushed a little and didn't check first if I left the old copy of mail- notification running at the time of the installation of the new build. That caused it (I think) to show an error message as soon as it finished installing mail-notification package in which it tells me to run 'sudo apt-get install -f' in a terminal window. I ran than and it went fine. Then I ran the mail-notification-evolution and that showed no errors. So, to conclude, I too can now run the app on my i386 Intrepid. [Bug 298090] Re: Opening links on some web sites doesn't work
It looks like nobody here either believes me or you guys think it's not important, but I've never seen this to be happening to Firefox before. The Seamonkey works fine and so do other browsers including Firefox on the openSuse 11 machine, but this one doesn't want to open any links that are part of the same server directory structure. If the link on the page in question is to an external source then it works, but the only way I can get any server related links to open is to right click them and select to open it in a new window or a tab. Would anyone please acknowledge this to be an issue and figure out what's wrong with it? I'm starting to think I'm just talking to myself here. --Croatian -- Opening links on some web sites doesn't work https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/298090 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 298090] Re: Opening links on some web sites doesn't work
I had my buddy in IT try to disable the Accuweather applet (Adobe Flash) on the IIS 6 server just to see if the links on the page would start to work, but that didn't help. I also downloaded the latest Firefox 3.0.4 that the Ubuntu repositories warned me about this morning along with other 79 different updates via Update Manager, but that too didn't help. Could someone please try to help? This is really driving me nuts. [Bug 298090] Re: Opening links on some web sites doesn't work
Forget it! I fixed it myself. Next time one of you poor souls have a strange problem in Firefox just uninstall it completely then delete every .mozilla and .firefox directory you can find (primarily in your home folder). You can then install it again and all will be fine. I suspect that it had something to do with the cache files and folders because when I deleted a bunch of those my problem went away, but my bookmarks and customized plugins as well. I didn't like that so I decided to simply wipe it clean and start from scratch. That worked. -- Opening links on some web sites doesn't work https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/298090 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 302103] [NEW] SEGFAULT in compiz.real while working with python applets in AWN/Avant
Public bug reported: I'm using Intrepid, the latest kernel -8. Everything is patched to the latest available stuff from the update manager. It happens repeatedly if I'm even trying to hover above some applets or select an application to go to that's already open. Sometime compiz completely forgets about the positions of open applications relevant to the choice of their virtual desktops, it just puts them all on one desktop after the compiz is restarted. Some applets like the "Shiny Switcher" in Avant completely disappear after it's restarted so I have to add it again. Sometime it only looses the window decorations (Emerald). [Bug 1] Re: Microsoft has a majority market share
I'm amazed that nobody congratulated Mr. Mark Shuttleworth on his 4th anniversary of this 1st reported major and critical bug for us all Penguin-Heads :-) Where's your camaraderie and a certain sense of belonging? The August 20th of this year came and passed by a simple note from one of our devout users from Brazil, noting a significant milestone in adoption of Ubuntu for their official government businesses. I guess that in itself is somewhat of an indirect congratulatory note to Mark, but considering the all important silent battle that's going on in the computerized underworld of OS', one would wish to see a more 'exposed' and 'visible' TV commercial about this whole thing. I would envision it to be very similar to the one about "I'm a PC.. and I'm a MAC" where Linux is the one challenging the M$ PC guy with simple, yet provoking questions. [Bug 298090] [NEW] Opening links on some web sites doesn't work
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: firefox-3.0 This is the strangest thing I've ever seen in a browser. Aren't browsers meant to allow users to click on a valid link that's on any given page and either take you there or show you some kind of an error? Well, sarcasm aside, this browser doesn't seem to want to work like that any more and I'm not sure if it's because of some of the plugins I have installed or what. For example, try going to the https://e-uprava.apis- it.hr/igrast/afPregledi/Index.jsp and click on the link "pretraživanje" in the upper left next to "naslovnica". Nothing happens! Now, try telling it to open that link in a new tab and... whala, it opens in a new tab just fine! What gives? I don't even know where to start on this trying to figure it out. Do any of you have any method of tracing what is taking place when this type of stuff occurs? Is there a log I can retrieve or watch some sort of a real time console output of what is the browser doing when I'm clicking on those links? [Bug 298090] Re: Opening links on some web sites doesn't work
I can also confirm that it happens with "A Browser" brand in Intrepid. The page having the issue is written in active server pages format using style-sheets and some Java scripts. It also features a small Adobe Flash driven weather applet. I also removed the Beagle plugin because that's the last one I added that I can remember and it still does it. Disabling the Google toolbar also doesn't have any effect. The error console (from the Tools menu in Firefox) doesn't give anything significant information concerning this bug. One thing that's maybe unique about this Intranet web page is the fact that it requires you to first authenticate using NTLM authentication of a sort in a pop-u dialog box so it can customize the content for you, but authentication goes through fine and does show the page. The page also doesn't let me refresh it and the home button in Firefox doesn't work if clicked. The home page is set to that Intranet web site. The only way I can ever see it open is if the Firefox is started anew or if I manually enter the URL in the address bar. Did someone conspire to "stick it to the man" and do away with some ASP compatibilities? [Bug 175233] Re: Evolution hangs with "Formatting Message" after several hours
Same thing here, although I'm using the latest Intrepid version of Evolution 2.24.3. I have to kill it at least 10 times a day to get it to work again. I can add to that, although probably less important in this thread, the fact that the unread message count is also not working properly, especially when the Evolution is first started or when deleting messages. The "Refresh" option when you right click an email folder doesn't seem to work at all. There are times when Outlook shows that I have emails in my Inbox, but the Evolution selectively choses to not even show them. They miraculously appear in the Evolution Inbox without me doing anything different (aside from first opening them in Outlook so I can read them). My mail is on an Exchange 2003 server and besides that I have one POP3 account configured as well. I've been using Evolution for more than a year now, ever since Gutsy, and it has never been perfect, but at least it wasn't as buggy as it is today. I can go on and on like this about many annoyances that it affords me on daily basis, but it's better I leave that for some other threads. -- Evolution hangs with "Formatting Message" after several hours https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/175233 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Re: [Bug 327775] Re: Evolution won't parse messages, stuck on "Formating message ..." in the status bar
Mr. Bacher, This bug happens on its own and at any time without me doing anything special to provoke it. It just happens at random throughout the day when trying to simply click on any message, be it old or new. Single click, double click - it doesn't matter. At that point I have to kill Evolution and then kill the evolution-alarm-notify, which when killed pulls down the drain with it the evolution-data-server-2.24 as well. I guess it's the dependant process so it has to. This is extremely annoying to me and other posts on the Internet that I red tell me that I'm not the only one having this very same problem. I can honestly tell you that lately on average I have to go through this at least 5 times a day. I tried changing my default system, desktop and application fonts from Verdana to Ariel (yes, ttf fonts) to no avail. Something as simple as trying to read a message whether in preview pane or in the open window should not be so difficult to accomplish. The server is an Exchange 2003 Standard version with all the latest patches and fixes. [Bug 327775] Re: Evolution won't parse messages, stuck on "Formating message ..." in the status bar
You can also see the same issue in Jaunty with it's latest Evolution build. All of the messages I receive are in HTML, so I can't tell you if the same bug would happen on a plain text message. One moment I'd be reading a message in one folder and the next moment I can't read any messages. That's all I can give you for now. If you have any bright idea how this can be traced or troubleshooted I'd be happy to try. BTW, I did open a bug report in Bugzilla about this. Re: [Bug 327775] Re: Evolution won't parse messages, stuck on "Formating message ..." in the status bar
Nope, it's not fixed in Jaunty. See my comments in this bug report on Bugzilla: http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=361145 However, I am downloading more updates for Jaunty as I type this response to you (about 77 new updates). I don't know if any of them will prove that a fix has been found, but we'll see. Some suggested that as a workaround I turn off showing pictures in messages, but this problem happens regardless what kind of an HTML message i try to open, most of them don't even have any pictures, only different font colors or italics. Re: [Bug 222613] Re: X apps displayed on wrong screen when started from secondary
After I downloaded a bunch of updates for Jaunty yesterday (partial upgrade) the problem with applications being maximized on a wrong screen are gone as is the inability of Jaunty to remember that I want to use expanded screens rather than mirrored once. I discovered that to be the case after the reboot. Previously I would have to adjust those settings and restart Compiz Fusion for everything to work right. I no longer have to do that, it seems that everything is working now. So, to summarize, regardless of the video card chipset this bug seems to have been addressed and fixed (at least for me). [Bug 1750038] [NEW] user space process hung in 'D' state waiting for disk io to complete
Public bug reported: Using Ubuntu Xenial user reports processes hang in D state waiting for disk io. Ocassionally one of the applications gets into "D" state on NFS reads/sync and close system calls. based on the kernel backtraces seems to be stuck in kmalloc allocation during cleanup of dirty NFS pages. All the subsequent operations on the NFS mounts are stuck and reboot is required to rectify the situation. [Test scenario] 1) Applications running in Docker environment 2) Application have cgroup limits --cpu-shares --memory -shm-limit 3) python and C++ based applications (torch and caffe) 4) Applications read big lmdb files and write results to NFS shares 5) use NFS v3 , hard and fscache is enabled 6) now swap space is configured This prevents all other I/O activity on that mount to hang. we are running into this issue more frequently and identified few applications causing this problem. As updated in the description, the problem seems to be happening when exercising the stack try_to_free_mem_cgroup_pages+0xba/0x1a0 we see this with docker containers with cgroup option --memory . whenever there is a deadlock, we see that the process that is hung has reached the maximum cgroup limit, multiple times and typically cleans up dirty data and caches to bring the usage under the limit. This reclaim path happens many times and finally we hit probably a race get into deadlock ** Affects: linux (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Assignee: Dragan S. [Bug 1616213] Re: Core dump on multipathd shutdown - trusty 14.04.4
PPA with the fix is available at: https://launchpad.net/~dragan-s/+archive/ubuntu/lp1616213 ** Description changed: + [Impact] + + * During "service multipath-tools stop" multipath daemon +is trying to cleanup and shut down several concurrent +threads. At times depending on a race condition between +two threads, one thread might free resources that are still +used by another thread. + +This is causing the multipathd to dump crash core on +stop events. + + * Fix should be backported to trusty to avoid more support +issues being filed. + + * This change delays freeing resources that another thread is +still using. + + [Test Case] + + * install multipath-tools, create a basic multipath.conf with +devices under management. Run: "service multipath-tools start" +run I/O on devices and keep the system CPU busy, then run +"service multipath-tools stop". + + [Regression Potential] + + * There should be no regression potential with this change, +this problem happens on the exit path and we are only delaying +a free call. + + [Original Description] + On ubuntu trusty 14.04.4 in multipath-tools version 0.4.9-3ubuntu7.14 there is bug in multipathd on shutdown. The code will access pathvec pointer which is a valid address: Reading symbols from /sbin/multipathd...Reading symbols from /usr/lib/debug//sbin/multipathd...done. done. [Bug 1611133] [NEW] dpkg truncates lines in 'status' file which begin with two spaces.
Public bug reported: On Ubuntu 12.04.5 LTS command dpkg version 1.16.1.2ubuntu7.7 seems to experience issues when updating packages. In one instance the status file seems to have over a thousand lines that have been truncated. It only seems to truncate package comments that are indented with two spaces. No indent or single space indent lines are all fine but lines that have a double space get truncated. They are not gone in the file they are just replaced by a line that has two spaces and a new line. Programmatically I would describe the problem as in perhaps a failure in reading the comment from the source and writing an empty string into the target: Comment = read_comment(next_line); fprintf(Status, " %s\n", Comment); So if there was an error in read_comment and function returned an empty string "", this would explain why some lines were getting truncated. ** Affects: dpkg (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1611133 Title: dpkg truncates lines in 'status' file which begin with two spaces. [Bug 1645324] Re: ebtables: Lock file should be moved from /var/lib/ebtables to /run
Creating a "fix" that only removes the file on boot is not a fix I have taken over this issue from Amad and have looked into the code. The file exclusive create approach is a bad substitution for real locking. I have a patch done that I am in the process of building a PPA to test, this uses real locking. File existence as a lock is bad because if the process dies or is killed it leaves a stale file around blocking any new ebtables instance from running. The approach taken in Zesty is not a real solution either since it just shifts the problem around. If the process is killed or crashes by an un-trappable signal the file will persist until the system is rebooted. Hardly a solution My patch creates a real lock on the file that is automatically released on exit or a crash. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1645324 Title: ebtables: Lock file should be moved from /var/lib/ebtables to /run To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ebtables/+bug/1645324/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

> Sure, but if it fixes (and is expected to fix completely) the actual impact > to users then it may > be the most appropriate for an SRU. We don't fix > theoretical bugs in SRUs. As far as I understand the impact to the user was that a lock file from a previous run prevents ebtables to run again. And then second part was that user tried to reboot and that didn't help either. Use real locking in ebtables (LP: #1645324) - Prior use of locking by file exclusive access is inadequate because if ebtables crashes or is killed it will leave a stale lock file behind which then blocks new ebtables from running. ** Patch added: "fix_ds-lp1645324.2.debdiff" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ebtables/+bug/1645324/+attachment/4832573/+files/fix_ds-lp1645324.2.debdiff -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1645324 Title: ebtables: Lock file should be moved from /var/lib/ebtables to /run To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ebtables/+bug/1645324/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1570093] Re: multipath-tools update introduced syslog messages about partx
** Description changed: + [Impact] + + * During "service multipath-tools start" /sbin/multipath is +called on dm- devices that are filtered but due to a condition +conf->dev_type == DEV_DEVNODE in filtering code multipath +binary wasn't dropping out when hitting a dm- device. This +was due to the fact that in this case conf->dev_type is +set to DEV_UEVENT. It also happens during a fail-over event. + +This is causing the logs to be filled with following +messages: + +multipath: dm-6: failed to get udev uid: Invalid argument +multipath: dm-6: failed to get sysfs uid: Invalid argument +multipath: dm-6: failed to get sgio uid: No such file or directory + + * Fix should be backported to xenial to avoid more support +issues being filed. + + * This change alows the filtering to happen. + + [Test Case] + + * install multipath-tools, create a basic multipath.conf with +dm- filtering rule. Run: "service multipath-tools start" +and check the log + + [Regression Potential] + + * There should be no regression potential with this change, the filtering +only allows the code to not traverse the error path. + + + [Original Description] + During a path loss event, the syslog is showing these messages where prior to the recent upgrade to multipath-tools I didn't see anything - like this. To me this seems like either a problem or it seems like a + like this. To me this seems like either a problem or it seems like a print message that should go into a different log file.
