[Bug 353721] [NEW] Kaffeine freezes when pausing and resuming DVB TV.
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: kaffeine With a fully updated Jaunty (1st April 2009) when watching live TV (DVB-T) it is possible to pause viewing. However when un-pausing, it plays for maybe a second or two then freezes. This is 100% reproducible, but I have never seen this problem with Intrepid. Running 'top' shows there is a minimal amount of CPU activity from kaffeine, however the UI is totally frozen and does not update at all. I also observed it while pausing a DVD, although this didn't seem to be 100% reproducible. Examining the disk showed that when paused it was successfully writing the DVB data to file DVBLive-20090402T112748.m2t as expected. Even when un-paused this file continued to grow as expected and the file was playable, so the underlying DVB system seems to be functioning correctly. [Bug 332210] Re: since an upgrade to jaunty the rc.local is not loaded at startup
There's something strange going on here. I have been using the same script (acerfand) and investigated further with modifications to the script. The script ran fine in Intrepid, but in Jaunty when you hit the final "exit 0" in rc.local, it exits acerfand as well. acerfand traps this exit, and I used this to print out more information. If I put a sleep 20 in rc.local after running acerfand, it will only be exited after the 20 have expired. I have tried a number of things, including double-backgrounding acerfand (I verified that its parent ID was 1), running it using nohup and running it in the background from a separate script, but all to no avail. This bug should NOT be closed as invalid, as the problem is not with the included script. There has been a change of behaviour in Jaunty which at least needs explaining, and may or may not be a bug in sysvinit or indeed another package. I will try and come up with a trivial script that shows the problem and attach it here. -- since an upgrade to jaunty the rc.local is not loaded at startup https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/332210 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

I suspect the trap command line is run at the time it is encountered, rather than when the trap condition is triggered. I can confirm that when changing kaffeine to use 'alsa' instead of 'auto' (pulseaudio) as suggested, I no longer observe the problem. There is a bit of delay between hitting the pause button and it actually pausing, presumably due to the length of the audio buffer, but this is not a serious problem. Kaffeine is now usable again. I am seeing these symptoms also on an old Dell Inspiron laptop, which has no 3D acceleration. [Bug 93318] Re: After my last Feisty update I could not start X server.
I have had a similar problem when upgrading to 2.6.20-13 kernel. It appears that the NVIDIA driver for this kernel is broken, at least as far as this card is concerned (I have the same). I have tried a fresh install to investigate a virgin feisty installation (my default is heavily modified) and have found that the "nv" driver works (but with reduced functionality as expected), but as soon as I try to enable nvidia (including hand-editing xorg.conf) the x-server fails to start. Unfortunately as this is a proprietary module it is probably out of the hands of the ubuntu team to fix, unless it's a packaging error. -- After my last Feisty update I could not start X server. https://launchpad.net/bugs/93318 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
