[Bug 38219] Re: Gnome freezes after log in
My apologies for not responding before. Being new to Linux, I am kinda afraid I might be just saying something stupid and wasting your time. Anyway, I found out the problem is related to my MSI-K8TM mobo (Via- based chipset). As I understand there will be a Quirk-MSI-K8T kernelpatch for Dapper to solve the problem. However, I still wonder: if it is a mere sound problem, how come the problem only occurs when trying to run #init 2 (the default Ubuntu- runlevel)? Whereas running runlevels 3-5 (which all use the same initscripts, but other than runlevel_2's) give no (sound)problem. Comparing /etc/rc*.d, I notice rc2.d contains powernowd.early and stop- readahead scripts, while the other rc's lack them. And as I wrote before, #init 2 makes my machine totally irresponsive after login while the sound hangs (no keys-combinations work), so i have to push the reboot-button. The same actually happened when I tried to install Ubuntu with the Live-CD. With Knoppix on the other hand I've never had any problem to start. Is it correct that powernowd.early is a specifical Ubuntu initscript? I'm only wildguessing here, but could my machine have issue with powernowd.early? At the moment I'm trying Edgy Eft Knot3_amd64 on an other partition. I've no problem starting runlevel 2. Is it due to the Quirk-MSI kernelpatch? Or is it something else that fixes the problem (e.g. Upstart...)? I don't know. The following is what I get from #dmesg ...snip [ 18.799654] PCI: Probing PCI hardware (bus 00) [ 18.801904] PCI: Ignoring BAR0-3 of IDE controller :00:0f.1 [ 18.802176] PCI: Quirk-MSI-K8T Soundcard On [ 18.802178] PCI: Unexpected Value in PCI-Register: no Change! snip... I do have problem though with Edgy ;-). It wont reboot or halt my machine!! [Bug 38219] Re: Gnome freezes after log in
I uninstalled edgy after a kernel-panic, so I'm not running edgy at the moment.Actually, do you mean by "that bug" the halting-problem or the Gnome-freeze-problem? About the latter, I've just booted 3x using runlevel 2 and the problem does not occur anymore! I suppose in the meantime that i've set my default runlevel to 3 there has been some update that fixed the Gomefreeze-problem. Thus I hereby declare this Bug #38219 as fixed on Dapper. [Bug 887793] Re: [HP 6710b] Kworker constantly taking about 100% CPU
Tried to read all.. but I think I have different info. I originally got the 100%CPU on kube and ended up disabling and not starting any of that, but the 100% CPU started on another process.. just one, so removed and rebooted.. and again it's not on gnome-shell.. however found the cpulimit and set gnome-shell to 30 or 40%. It functions now if I don't open too many windows. (or open a browser with too many by mistake and manage to get ctrl-alt F2 fast enough to log in and kill it, which usually unfreezes X. I did buy a 1300Mb wifi a while back, and no support for linux, so I dug up the firmware (dual channel, so 2) and added.. seemed ok for weeks, but that's when KUBE stuff started chowing down on my CPU. I'm not good/familiar with this whole bug thing and my time is super valuable right now, so Please just say if I do something wrong or need to add info. Also, some mention 20.04, but I've been on 18.04 LTS over 6 months now. Plus some issues with the firmwares, I have multiple RTL chips. from, prolly 14 years ago now, to the two new ones in the dual band ethernet card. One other I'm pretty sure is in unused 2 SATA RAID onboard (14 yr old) Dunno, happy to provide more info but my time is worth to much right now to not clean install in a couple days if it's not fixed. I can't work with 6 windows.. often over 130 win/tabs and close to 200 on Win 7.1.. but then it gets slow and warning, now.. an extra window and I better get to ctrl-alt-F2 quick or hard boot. Let me know. I hope it tells me if there's replies.. (will look a bit) might try pull the wifi.. but wanted to do some stuff.. but have much more critical todo anyway. [Bug 1865300] Re: gnome-shell-hotplug-sniffer crashed with SIGSEGV in g_str_hash() from g_hash_table_lookup() from deep_count_more_files_callback()
I'm new on here - sorry for any mistakes. I didn't know if it's worth adding, or where to add... that after I got this crash, I closed everything (and had my Android plugged in and mounted, but ejected it) and rebooted. Now, when I plug my phone back in, it makes the little alert noise, but I cannot find my phone drive. It doesn't show up in Files like it did last time, even when I click "other locations". (Files was what I was using to look at the phone files before the reboot) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1865300 Title: gnome-shell-hotplug-sniffer crashed with SIGSEGV in g_str_hash() from g_hash_table_lookup() from deep_count_more_files_callback() To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/gnome-shell/+bug/1865300/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1329432] [NEW] 14.04 install fails trying to install grub on install media
Public bug reported: When installing 14.04 server, the installation program attempts to install the grub boot loader on the install media and not the target disk. I have the installation iso written on to a usb key using the Universal USB Installer program. I boot with the key installed and a single hard disk (the target). When the install environment comes up the USB key is on /dev/sda and the target disk is on /dev/sdb. When the installer gets to installing grub, it tries to install it on /dev/sda and fails. ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1329432 Title: 14.04 install fails trying to install grub on install media To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1329432/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
