[Bug 122935] Re: p7zip can't decompress password protected 7z files

2009-06-24 Thread Derick Eisenhardt
When this bug was filed (almost 2 years ago), I don't believe that
particular package existed yet, and if it did it had this issue at the
time. I'll have to double check and verify if it was ever fixed, if so
then "closed" would be the proper status, not "invalid".

make a new bug for File Roller still not prompting for a password :/

[Bug 276048] [NEW] python2.5-dev package will not install

2008-09-29 Thread Derick Eisenhardt
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: python2.5-dev

This also affects the python-dev package.

When attempting to install python-dev, apt refuses to do so because the
python2.5-dev package requires exactly version 2.5.2-2ubuntu4.1 of
python, but I have python2.5.2-2ubuntu5 installed (I assume because I am
using the proposed repo).

Either the python2.5-dev package needs to accept python2.5.2-2ubuntu4.1
or higher (rather than exactly), or a new version of python2.5-dev
(presumably version 2.5.2-2ubuntu5) needs to be created.

[Bug 307297] [NEW] Virtualbox-OSE-Modules needs to be updated to match new kernel version

2008-12-11 Thread Derick Eisenhardt
Public bug reported:

There has been a new version of the kernel (2.6.24-22 hardy) released,
but no new update to the virualbox-ose-modules to match, thus VirtualBox
crashes upon trying to run a virtual machine.

This seems to happen every time there is a kernel update, leaving
virtualbox unusable for days, if not weeks. Can we please find some sort
of method to automatically remind the maintainer to update this package
when a new kernel update is released? Thanks...

[Bug 60033] Multiple Crash Alerts for Firefox 2.0b1 in Edgy

2006-09-12 Thread Derick Eisenhardt
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: firefox

After Firefox crashes, a popup window informs you that it has crashed,
and asks if you'd like to file a bug report or relaunch it. Sometimes,
if you do not make a choice soon enough it will continue to pop-up
numerous times.

Just now it probably popped up with this message about 20 times, then it
popped up a different one asking whether I'd like to resume my previous
session or start a new one. I'm not sure whether this is Firefox or
Ubuntu specific.

I'm running the latest update of Edgy on a 32bit Pentium4 system
(hyperthreading disabled) with 1GB of RAM, if that helps any.

I will try to recreate this with a firefox ran from the command line to
see if it gives any useful info...

[Bug 132509] [Update Request] Newer version of SPE (python IDE) needed for Gutsy

2007-08-14 Thread Derick Eisenhardt
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: spe

Please update SPE to a newer revision for Gutsy's release. The current
version in the repos, 0.8.2a, is over a year and a half old (released
2006Jan26). The latest official release is at 0.8.3c, although it's
almost a year old itself. A newer pull from SVN would be even better,

[Bug 181920] Brutal Chess path/launcher broken after install [gutsy]

2008-01-10 Thread Derick Eisenhardt
Public bug reported:

I am running Ubuntu 7.10 (i386) and when I installed BrutalChess via
apt-get a launcher was added to Gnome's application menu, but it does
not work. When you click the icon you get the error: "Could not launch
menu item. Failed to execute child process 'brutalchess' (No such file

Upon typing "brutalchess" into a terminal, it also fails with the error
message: "Command 'brutalchess' is available in
'/usr/games/brutalchess'. The command could not be located because
'/usr/games' is not included in the PATH environment variable. bash:
brutalchess: command not found."

Sure enough, manually typing in /usr/games/brutalchess brings the game
up fine. The deb needs to set this up properly during installation. This

[Bug 121672] [gutsy] udev infinitely has errors, keeps CPU at 99%

2007-06-21 Thread Derick Eisenhardt
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: udev

Upon recently upgrading from Feisty to Gutsy, my udev seems to have gone
crazy. About halfway through the boot-up process, the splash screen
disappears and I see constant, repeating error messages from udevd.

They're usually to the extent of:
udevd-event[some number]: node_symlink: unlink(/dev/mapper/) failed: Is a
directory
udevd-event[some number]: node_symlink: symlink(...,/dev/mapper/) failed:
Device lookup failed

After about a minute, X and GDM startup, but are really slow. Upon
entering my desktop (Gnome if it helps), gkrellm constantly reports my
CPU use at 99%.

If I press alt+ctrl+F1, I see messages about:
[number] device-mapper: table: 254:1: linear: dm-linear: Device lookup failed

If I manually kill the udevd process, my CPU use goes down to almost 0%,
like it should be...

My system is running 32bit Ubuntu (Linux-generic 2.6.22-6), I have a
Pentium 4C 2.4Ghz processor (hyper-threading disabled, although I've
tried it both ways), with a Gig of RAM, SATA hard drives, and an intel
chipset based mother board.

Please let me know anything I can do to help you guys track down this
bug! :)

[Bug 121678] [gutsy] no window borders when compiz is enabled

Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: compiz

When I enable "desktop effects" (Compiz 1:0.5.1+git20070621-0ubuntu1)
all my window borders disappear. This makes it impossible for me to use
my desktop with Compiz enabled. I'm running Gutsy now, but I had the
exact same problems with Fiesty too.

Also, this may be an unrelated, seperate bug, but when I open Gnome-
Terminal all I get is a blank white box.

I'm running Ubuntu (32bit, generic kernel 2.6.22-6, gnome), with an
NVidia GeForce 5200 FX (AGP, 128MB RAM), a 2.4Ghz single-core Pentium4C

[Bug 119643] Re: update exaile to include the amazon patch

2007-06-21 Thread Derick Eisenhardt
I was just about to report the same bug. The album art never shows up,
and Exaile always reports it found nothing on Amazon, regardless of the
album or artist. This was a problem in Fiesty, and it still is in Gutsy
(I'm currently running version 0.2.9+debian-4ubuntu1).

[Bug 36801] Re: Rosegarden does not start successfully by default in Dapper.

2007-06-21 Thread Derick Eisenhardt
To Mr. McIntyre (and anyone else):

This bug relates to the PACKAGE for Rosegarden in Ubuntu, not
necessarily the app itself. You may not be used to it in other distros,
but in Ubuntu, things are supposed to automagically JustWork after they
are installed ;)

JACK and anything else Rosegarden may need should be automatically
installed and configured as a dependency when someone installs the
package for Rosegarden. Don't take it personal...

PS: I too find it odd how the Linux community in general seems to
pretend that MIDI isn't around anymore...

[Bug 63242] Re: Unstyled buttons doesn't use Ubuntu's theme

2007-05-29 Thread Derick Eisenhardt
There was recently an article on Digg about how to make Firefox's
buttons look decent in Ubuntu. Perhaps this person's guide could be
useful to you guys: http://osnovice.blogspot.com/2007/05/firefox-
controls-are-ugly.html

Also, I think this bug may technically classify as a duplicate of bug
40051: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/firefox/+bug/40051

[Bug 78544] Kernel fails to load ICH5 SATA driver

2007-01-08 Thread Derick Eisenhardt
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: linux-image-2.6.20-5-generic

I want to apologize up front for not having the best information to give
you guys on this bug, but under the circumstances, I can't exactly just
copy and paste any error messages.

Basically, it appears that the 2.6.20-5-generic kernel is not
recognizing my ICH5 SATA hardware. It assigned it an IRQ, but then gave
a vague error message, and then later gave me the message: "IRQ18: It
seems nobody cared" or something like that... And since it can't find my
hard drive it never finishes booting and there doesn't seem to be
anything I can do to fix it.

This is on an install that was dist-upgraded from an Edgy install.
Feisty was working with a 2.6.19 kernel, so it appears something broke
when it updated to 2.6.20. If there's any other info I can give you guys
to help, just let me know.

** Affects: linux-source-2.6.20 (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: Unconfirmed

[Bug 73848] Nautilus overloading CPU (Stays at 99% all the time)

2006-11-29 Thread Derick Eisenhardt
Public bug reported:

It seems to be at random intervals when it begins, but almost once a day
I have to restart Nautilus because it will start using 99% of my CPU
constantly, even when the system is left alone, idle. During these
times, Nautilus seems to continue working properly, however the couple
times it has crashed, when it automatically restarted itself, it
remained at 99% CPU use still.

I'm not sure how to get any data for you guys without disabling GDM and
doing a startx from the commandline or something...please let me know if
there's anything else I can do to help :)

I got this error today on Xubuntu 14.10. Not sure the cause, happened in
the background it would seem.
