[Bug 405109] Re: Sound very low when on kernel 2.6.31-4.22-generic

2009-08-17 Thread Daniel de Souza Telles
You just need to put "VIA DXS" on the maximum level. You can change it
by running "alsamixer" on the terminal, but if you prefer a graphical
interface, you can install "gnome-alsamixer" with this command "sudo
apt-get install gnome-alsamixer".

[Bug 405109] [NEW] Sound very low when on kernel 2.6.31-4-generic

2009-07-26 Thread Daniel de Souza Telles
Public bug reported:

lsb_release -rd:

Description:Ubuntu karmic (development branch)
Release:9.10

Audio driver: AC'97
Kernel version: 2.6.31-4-generic

After update, the sound output was very low, inaudible for most
speakers, so I checked the volume levels, and all of them was if all on
max and not muted, gnome-volume-control, alsamixer, pavumeter, so the
only option was the kernel, i restarted the system and booted with
2.6.28-14-generic, and believe or not, the sound volume was fine.
Another important thing, as my speaker has a sound amplifier, on full
volume, i can hear the static noise, and with 2.6.31-4-generic this
noise was ok same as with 2.6.28-14-generic. So the problem isn't with
the sound card, or with volume control, but with the software amplifier.

As i'm on 2.6.28-14-generic, i will reboot, and later post
2.6.31-4-generic system info.

that i reconfigured some packages with dpkg-reconfigure, as PolicyKit,
ConsoleKit, and other things that I don't renember, but at all gdm problem
stayed the same.

[Bug 288852] Re: [Intrepid] Wine doesn't have permissions for /dev/nvidiactl

2009-09-07 Thread Daniel de Souza Telles
I have the same problem here. Everything with DRI is affected by it, RuneScape,
Wine, some times compiz, etc
Files already have gid 44, but they are being recreated at the boot time, and I
think they are blank. I'm attaching ls -l output of them. I'm using Karmic
Alpha.

I heard I need to create a file, /etc/udev/rules.d/50-udev.rules, with
this content:

###/etc/udev/rules.d/50-udev.rules

KERNEL=="nvidia*", NAME="%k", GROUP="video"

##end of /etc/udev/rules.d/50-udev.rules

2009-09-07 Thread Daniel de Souza Telles
I don't think this is NVDIA Settings fault. The problem is with the
module creation and configuration itself, and probably with the
distribution. And not with a poor screen configuration tool.

2009-09-07 Thread Daniel de Souza Telles
My problem is definitely not with permissions. But so what is my
problem? I will do a lot of tests to discover what is the problem. To
you guys I have a tip to change the gid. Run this, gedit /etc/modprobe.d
/nvidia-kernel-nkc.conf, and change the gid to what you want.

background. After some time I closed it and shutdown the computer. On
the next day I opened it to play the podcast that I downloaded
yesterday, and there's surprise, download progress bar shows 112% as
progress.

[Bug 288852] Re: [Intrepid] Wine doesn't have permissions for /dev/nvidiactl

2009-10-25 Thread Daniel de Souza Telles
Adding this to my xorg.conf, solved my problem:

"Section "DRI"
Mode 0666
EndSection"

But now with the last NVIDIA and Ubuntu updates, i removed this section,
and system still runs fine.
