[Bug 332945] Re: [Jaunty] Update Notifier icon would provide useful status information / new update-manager behaviour is annoying
Any one ever consider that the update manager uses a whole bunch of resources. For older systems it renders the rest of the desktop almost useless until its finished loading, and completely locks it up if you were already using a resource intensive app. For me and I suspect some others at least Updates need to be done when the computer is not in use (in other words when I say) so forcing the update manager to start is not only annoying, its potentially damaging. What exactly was wrong with a few kb used for the icon? Why should I suffer because some people have bad computer habits, you ignore notifications you deserve the consequences. -- [Jaunty] Update Notifier icon would provide useful status information / new update-manager behaviour is annoying https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/332945 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 484278] [NEW] Regression: Pulseaudio priority set to 0 in Karmic
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: pulseaudio In Ubuntu Jaunty pulseaudio's default priority was set at -11. This prevented pulse from being interrupted under load on slower systems. I found the problem, it seems the xsmp module wasn't set to load in the default.pa see: ### Register ourselves in the X11 session manager #load-module module-x11-xsmp I uncommented the line above and now pulse ownership is transfered when I logout and back in as a different user. Your refering to this: # X11 modules should not be started from default.pa so that one daemon # can be shared by multiple sessions. I saw that thought it was only for the bell module. But I see your point, because now I can logout to change users, but fast user switching isn't getting sound. Since My original problem borked fast switching anyway, a half fix is better than no fix. A little more digging it seems that this bug: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/pulseaudio/+bug/309724 and the one linked in the comments of that bug are somehow related. I tried removing all users from the audio group without success though, so at this point I'm totally lost. @ Daniel, I'll leave it to you to decide if they are related, and how to mark this. Though I am pretty sure it isn't a local issue, as I have the same problem on two systems (fresh installs before I stared digging into this.) with newly created users. [Bug 587008] [NEW] Puseaudio not properly shutdown on logout
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: pulseaudio I have two systems with multiple users, this one I'm reporting on and and AMD 64 desktop. I can shutdown the old instance of PA from the terminal as the former user or sudo, and PA will automagicly restart with the correct user id. [Bug 189774] Re: seahorse shows passwords without verification
This is my idea to solve the problem quoted from the forums; he way I see it Ubuntu is almost there, seahorse does ask permission just no confirmation. And we do have the tools like gconf. And policykit, witch can handle non-root permissions and IMO is way under used. Here's my idea, create a sane list of default apps that can access seahorse. The ability to change that list through gconf, and permission checks through policykit for unexpected apps, changing info or viewing passwords. And finally come up with a unified personal security policy for the desktop as a whole. [Bug 938933] [NEW] Screen alignment out of wack at login screen
Public bug reported: When Ubuntu boots, grub, plymouth is properly aligned. When it gets to the login screen it is shifted to the left about an inch. autorest on the monitor does nothing. Manually adjusting the screen does not work because it turns out the login screen is too wide, and that messes up the alignment after you log in. and when you login the the alignment returns to normal. [Bug 938916] Re: Chrommatic bfb inconsistant with some options
I realize the chromatic BFB is intended. With the default Unity setup it fits just fine. Though I'd argue that the button IS an amalgamation, like the other launchers. Only slightly different so that it stands out as, well the BFB. But having one coloured box in the bar while the rest are clear is a visual distraction. IMO the old one fit better with backlight off, not ugly at all. This, not so much. Glad to see you switched from won't fix to opinion, that's exactly what this is about. [Bug 936352] Re: The dash remembers old searches
I read the other two reports. I then really played with the feature, keeping in mind the reason for the behavior. I still believe that it gets in the way of the function of the dash. To use any other feature on any particular lens you have to clear the search bar for that lens first. There has to be a better way to satisfy the purpose for the design of search and the rest of the dash. Perhaps a dropdown with a recent history of searches? Or maybe a dedicated "search results" lens that kept a history of searches? Just throwing ideas out there, the way it functions now does seem to get in the way an awful lot. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/936352 Title: The dash remembers old searches To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/unity/+bug/936352/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
