[Bug 332945] Re: [Jaunty] Update Notifier icon would provide useful status information / new update-manager behaviour is annoying

2009-07-23 Thread Corey Buckingham
Any one ever consider that the update manager uses a whole bunch of
resources. For older systems it renders the rest of the desktop almost
useless until its finished loading, and completely locks it up if you
were already using a resource intensive app. For me and I suspect some
others at least Updates need to be done when the computer is not in use
(in other words when I say) so forcing the update manager to start is
not only annoying, its potentially damaging. What exactly was wrong with
a few kb used for the icon? Why should I suffer because some people have
bad computer habits, you ignore notifications you deserve the
consequences.

[Bug 402767] Re: multisearch add on blocks the functionality of firefox location bar

2009-07-23 Thread Corey Buckingham
i'm not using karmic just ran across the post in the forms. I agree this
is crapware, just one question: is the "Ubuntu firefox Modifications"
addon up to date yet? I'd hate to think this got done before the addon
that actually integrates firefox with the desktop. seeing as how they've
had three months already.

2009-07-24 Thread Corey Buckingham
Thank you Alex I'd quote but don't know how in launchpad, is it back
ported? as stated I'm not using karmic (and glad for that at the moment)
II sure all the jaunty 3.5 users have waited long enough for this. But
back on topic this is just plain scary I hope it goes away in all forms
before final or I'll be looking for another distro. Its a shame Ubuntu
has been good to me.

[Bug 484278] [NEW] Regression: Pulseaudio priority set to 0 in Karmic

2009-11-17 Thread Corey Buckingham
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: pulseaudio

In Ubuntu Jaunty pulseaudio's default priority was set at -11. This
prevented pulse from being interrupted under load on slower systems. In
Karmic pulse is set at 0 so even the smallest load causes pulse to
"skip". Using renice to set it back to -11 makes pulse behave much
better, but must be done with sudo and every login.

[Bug 587008] Re: Pulseaudio not properly shutdown on logout

2010-06-01 Thread Corey Buckingham
I found the problem, it seems the xsmp module wasn't set to load in the
default.pa see:

### Register ourselves in the X11 session manager
#load-module module-x11-xsmp

I uncommented the line above and now pulse ownership is transfered when I
logout and back in as a different user.
Why was this setting commented in the fist place??? How did this get through
QA? Its so simple. If there is no reason to have that line commented, then all
thats left to do is create a diff for pulse to change the setting. That beyond
my abilities guys, a little help?

[Bug 587008] Re: Pulseaudio not properly shutdown on logout

2010-06-01 Thread Corey Buckingham
Your refering to this:

# X11 modules should not be started from default.pa so that one daemon
# can be shared by multiple sessions.

I saw that thought it was only for the bell module. But I see your point,
because now I can logout to change users, but fast user switching isn't getting
sound. Since My original problem borked fast switching anyway, a half fix is
better than no fix.
You say my session is racing? Then its a session bug right? where did you see
that? I'd like to get this fixed right.

[Bug 587008] Re: Pulseaudio not properly shutdown on logout

2010-06-01 Thread Corey Buckingham
A little more digging it seems that this bug:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/pulseaudio/+bug/309724 and the
one linked in the comments of that bug are somehow related. I tried
removing all users from the audio group without success though, so at
this point I'm totally lost.

@ Daniel, I'll leave it to you to decide if they are related, and how
to mark this. Though I am pretty sure it isn't a local issue, as I have
the same problem on two systems (fresh installs before I stared digging
into this.) with newly created users. If there is anything else I can
offer, or another package I should file with let me know, glad to help
in any way I can.

[Bug 587008] [NEW] Puseaudio not properly shutdown on logout

2010-05-28 Thread Corey Buckingham
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: pulseaudio

I have two systems with multiple users, this one I'm reporting on and
and AMD 64 desktop. On both systems when I logout of one user and into
another. the PA daemon is not shutdown and restarted as the new user so
sound stops working. I can shutdown the old instance of PA from the
terminal as the former user or sudo, and PA will automagicly restart
with the correct user id. I had this problem in karmic as well but was
unsure of the cause due to other PA issues and fixes I'd tried, this
system however has not been messed with.

[Bug 189774] Re: seahorse shows passwords without verification

2009-10-28 Thread Corey Buckingham
This is my idea to solve the problem quoted from the forums;

he way I see it Ubuntu is almost there, seahorse does ask permission
just no confirmation. And we do have the tools like gconf. And
policykit, witch can handle non-root permissions and IMO is way under
used.

Here's my idea, create a sane list of default apps that can access
seahorse. The ability to change that list through gconf, and permission
checks through policykit for unexpected apps, changing info or viewing
passwords. And finally come up with a unified personal security policy
for the desktop as a whole. (See above post 182; you need your password
to change your password and about me does not display clear text.)

[Bug 932496] [NEW] Conky windows are not resized unless you restart conky

I use conky windows that are supposed to dynamically resize depending on
certain conditions/information displayed. This function worked
flawlessly in with compiz in 10.10 (I skipped 11.04/11.10) and works
fine with openbox and kwin on 12.04. I'm using Conky version 1.80 (1.8.1

[Bug 938933] [NEW] Screen alignment out of wack at login screen

2012-02-22 Thread Corey Buckingham
Public bug reported:

When Ubuntu boots, grub, plymouth is properly aligned. When it gets to
the login screen it is shifted to the left about an inch. autorest on
the monitor does nothing. Manually adjusting the screen does not work
because it turns out the login screen is too wide, and that messes up
the alignment after you log in. and when you login the the alignment
returns to normal. Strangely when I login to a kde session the issue
disappears until I log into unity/gnome session again.

[Bug 938916] Re: Chrommatic bfb inconsistant with some options

2012-02-22 Thread Corey Buckingham
I realize the chromatic BFB is intended. With the default Unity setup it
fits just fine. Though I'd argue that the button IS an amalgamation,
like the other launchers. Only slightly different so that it stands out
as, well the BFB. But having one coloured box in the bar while the rest
are clear is a visual distraction. IMO the old one fit better with
backlight off, not ugly at all. This, not so much. Glad to see you
switched from won't fix to opinion, that's exactly what this is about.
Design decisions get changed in Ubuntu all the time.

[Bug 938940] Re: Large blury stripe in the middle of my screen

2012-02-22 Thread Corey Buckingham
I don't know if it is unity, X, or nvidia causing it. They all were
updated in my last round of updates.I did test without the nvidia
driver, painful as that was the blury strip was still there. This is
going to get sticky, though because it does not show up in the
screenshot. Monitor is only a couple months old, hope its not bad.

[Bug 939258] [NEW] Messaging indicator not respecting blacklist

2012-02-22 Thread Corey Buckingham
Public bug reported:

Linking files to ~/.config indicators/applications-blacklist doesn't
work anymore. I placed thunderbird and empathy there because I use
pidgin and polster. But the icons are still there. Thunderbird isn't
even my default mail client, I don't understand why its there at all.
The messaging indicator should show the selected default app for a task.

[Bug 936352] Re: The dash remembers old searches

2012-02-22 Thread Corey Buckingham
I read the other two reports. I then really played with the feature,
keeping in mind the reason for the behavior. I still believe that it
gets in the way of the function of the dash. To use any other feature on
any particular lens you have to clear the search bar for that lens
first. There has to be a better way to satisfy the purpose for the
design of search and the rest of the dash. Perhaps a dropdown with a
recent history of searches? Or maybe a dedicated "search results" lens
that kept a history of searches? Just throwing ideas out there, the way
it functions now does seem to get in the way an awful lot.

Alrite I see what to look for, kernel on that machine is about a week
old. I'll have a look next time I get my hands on it, in a few days.
Then I'll upgrade and see if it fixes it. Although my little trick got
it working, it still fails on occasion, and needs to be pulled out and
plugged back in again.

[Bug 692967] Re: First-run of Unity should scan AWN, Docky and other popular launcher settings

2011-01-05 Thread Corey Buckingham
It wasn't mentioned, so you'll have to excuse me if it was included. But
Cairo-dock should be included in that list. It has D-bus and a remote
api, so it should be easy for you guys. :)

your gonna hate me, but I suggest you run a backtrace and file the bug
upstream chromium is to much of a moving target for Ubuntu to deal with.
