[Bug 38131] Re: Firefox causes massive Xorg CPU usage
Nah, removing my optical mouse doesn't do the trick Mark. This needs to be resolved because it sucks! I've installed the latest Flash from Adobe and removed the flashplugin-nonfree from the Intrepid repo but that didn't help either. [Bug 38131] Re: Firefox causes massive Xorg CPU usage
Ok, Mark, I have to give you kudos on this one after all. Unplugging my Logitech optical mouse did not fix it until I upgraded to the latest version of Flash from the Intrepid repos. Here's what I did: 1. Remove flash-nonfree 2. Install Adobe Flash Player from Adobe's download site 3. Tested a site known to drive up my CPU and it still did 4. Update manager notified me that I needed to upgrade Flash so I did 5. Tested a site known to drive up my CPU and it sill did 6. Unplugged mouse and CPU use dropped right away. No problems since. Wow! This is a constant problem for me as well and it was present in 9.04, 9.10 and now 10.04. I'm using RDPv5 in the tsclient settings. It's a very annoying problem. I connect to a Windows 2003 server and the window comes up. Sometimes the problem occurs right away in that I cannot login because of network issues (I guess, with the tsclient) and the session freezes and disconnects. Sometimes I can login but the session freezes just after that and finally disconnects. If I use a Windows client/OS these issues are never present on any server I connect to with RDP so it seems as if something is broken with the Ubuntu package(s). [Bug 430511] Re: Outgoing mail stops working
How do you know the software hasn't changed? We don't have this problem with Thunderbird, Outlook, or other clients. Evolution was working fine and then all of the sudden it began to accumulate mail in the Outbox folder after running (and sending mail successfully) for some period of time. I've made no configuration changes on the Evolution client side. It just stopped working. Also interesting is that so far today (and yesterday) having started Evolution from a Terminal instead of by the launcher it runs with NO problems. That surely indicates some problem that is NOT with our mail server. There are others who have this problem. Did you see the Ubuntu Forums post I included a link to? Relevant Ubuntu Forums Posts http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=7744054 http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1190064 Is there a log file that Evolution generates that can be sifted through to see what causes this because I just don't accept your premise that this is 'my problem to be solved'. [Bug 600251] Re: Kernel 2.6.35 freezes
I'm running an HP Elitebook 8530w with Nvidia Quadro FX card and have a similar issue. There's another bug that's been filed that also seems similar. Basically my system freezes and the only way to recover is to hold down the power button. THIS SUCKS! It's been a problem for me since upgrading from 10.04 to 10.10 which has been a few months nearly and I use my computer for working. I've seen no response from the Ubuntu engineering team on the other bug filed. There is nothing in the logs on my system that points to what the problem might be. My guess is that this is due to the fact that the system is completely frozen. # Symptoms # - Happens randomly and there have been times where I power off due to the freeze, boot up Ubuntu and login and the system freezes almost as soon as I start using it again, then I have to power off again. - Sometimes seems to be related to changing power states (i.e. plugged in or running on battery) but I don't know for sure - CPU is running at 100% and fans are spinning at max RPM with high temp air being exhausted Again, THIS SUCKS AND MUST BE ADDRESSED AND FIXED. It's totally unacceptable to have such a serious malfunction unresolved for so long. Lots of Ubuntu users work with their systems as business tools and must have a reliable platform on which to do their jobs. # Log Entries # [ 21.547886] ACPI Warning for \_SB_.PCI0.PEGP.DGFX.MXMI: Excess arguments - needs 1, found 2 (20100428/nspredef-319) [ 21.547931] ACPI Warning for \_SB_.PCI0.PEGP.DGFX.MXMS: Excess arguments - needs 1, found 2 (20100428/nspredef-319) -- Kernel 2.6.35 freezes https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/600251 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

The fan is running as fast as it can and high heat is noticed. The CPU seems maxed out but no way to really tell. If you have an SSH session open from another computer to the Ubuntu 10.10 computer that is locked there is no longer any interaction so you cannot tail the logs. The only way to recover is to hold down the power button and turn off the computer. This did not happen on Ubuntu 10.04. Often after this happens and I power off the computer, turning it back on results in another freeze minutes after logging in. I can turn it back off and turn it on and usually work for hours without the freeze until the next time I suspend/resume. I've tried plugging and unplugging the power cord repeatedly but this does not seem to cause the freeze. This is a painful bug for obvious reasons for those of us who use Ubuntu as our primary business OS.
