[Bug 107951] Re: Booting fails after installation (GRUB error)
It's really weird: I can boot from the Ubuntu disk if the Debian disk is plugged in. But then neither my CD-ROM drive nor my DVD drive is usable. No medium is recognized and I have no glue to which device they are connected to. I tried /dev/hda--/dev/hdf and /dev/sda--/dev/sdf---but nothing is found. I can find problems related to the CD-ROM drive (LITE- ON LTR-48125S) in dmesg. I attach the dmesg output. BTW: Both drives work with Debian. What can I do to have a working Ubuntu installation without the Debian disk plugged in?? Thanks for any help! ** Attachment added: "dmesg" http://librarian.launchpad.net/7611732/dmesg -- Booting fails after installation (GRUB error) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/107951 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 114598] CD-ROM and DVD drives not working
Public bug reported: After I had strange problems with a Feisty installation (reported here: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/grub/+bug/107951) I found a workaround (https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/grub/+bug/107951/comments/19). But my CD-RW and DVD drives do not work. They are not detected. The CD- RW drive (LITE-ON LTR-48125S) is mentioned by dmesg with an error (see link above) but the DVD is not. I attach the output of 'sudo lshw -short'. If you need further information please let me know. It fails with "GRUB Loading stage1.5Read Error". Trying to boot from the first hard disk with the install CD fails, too: "Error 25: Disk read Error". I guess this is due to a mismatch of disk drive names. The hard disk is connected to an ITE8211F ide controller on an Asus P5LD2/C board. But partman-lvm listed it as a SCSI drive (sda). This is similar to https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/grub/+bug/107798 but it's not the same. As I'm in my office at the moment I have no access to the hard disk I installed Feisty on. [Bug 108479] Re: Distribution Upgrade (to Feisty) fails: coreutils can not be installed
I guess the error is caused by the wrong install-info script. Install- info is also provided by TeXLive (TL) that I installed manually to have TL 2007 and the TeXLive path is searched before the system path. I just chmod -x the TL install-info and the upgrade process is still running. With 5.10 I had a similar problem I just remembered ... [Bug 509652] Re: evince shrinks pages on printer
Now I'm confused, too---I can't confirm your observation. Indeed evince- print-preview.png doesn't match the mexp-evince-scaling-Evince.ps according to the right and bottom margins (I overlooked those margins). But it does not match mexp-evince-scaling-AR.ps! I didn't mix up the files ... But forget about the both PostScript files I attached, they just seem to confuse us. evince-print-preview.png shows everything: The isssue is that Evince shrinks the page by adding margins all around. The example PDF file mexp-evince-scaling.pdf has no margins at all. You can see this in the background window (Evince's main window) in evince- print-preview.png. How Evince prints this document (adding margins all around) is shown in the foreground window (Evince's Print preview window) in evince-print-preview.png. Unfortunately AR doesn't offer a print preview and I have only a german AR installation, so it doesn't make sense to attach a screenshot of the page setup. I didn't chose any scaling option in AR (Xpdf doesn't know such thing), they are disabled by default on my machines. But strictly speaking it doesn't matter how AR or Xpdf print the file. Evince shrinks it when it's not asked for. This is true for every PDF file I printed with Evince since I upgrade to Karmic---mexp-evince-scaling.pdf is just an example I created for this bug report. -- evince shrinks pages on printer https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/509652 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
