[Bug 352197] Re: ata timeout exception with ahci libata driver (was with 2.6.28-11, but i confirmed it affewcts previous kernels too)

2009-05-08 Thread Cedric Schieli
I can confirm this bug on my Dell Vostro 1710 running Jaunty
(2.6.28-11-{generic,server}).
It occurs only once on every boot, when GDM starts (and thus does its
prefetch), provoking a ~30s blank screen with heavy disk activity before the
login screen.

It is safe to upgrade to newer linux-image-2.6.24-19-generic and to newer
linux-ubuntu-modules-2.6.24-19-generic, but not to newer

I will produce new packages when needed until the fix go mainline.

BTW, IMHO the better fix for this bug is to cherry-pick the fix from linus'
tree directly into linux-source : it is nearly a one-liner and is included in
mainline kernels.
I attach the patch for easier review.

2008-08-17 Thread Cedric Schieli
I've just installed linux-image-2.6.24-19-{generic,xen} (hardy-updates)
and linux-image-2.6.24-21-{generic,xen} (hardy-proposed) on my hardy
system and my menu.lst seems correct :

Xen 3.2 / Ubuntu 8.04.1, kernel 2.6.24-21-xen
Xen 3.2 / Ubuntu 8.04.1, kernel 2.6.24-19-xen
Ubuntu 8.04.1, kernel 2.6.24-21-generic
Ubuntu 8.04.1, kernel 2.6.24-19-generic

The bug is closed for me.

[Bug 258882] [NEW] [hardy] r8169: multicast doesn't work on Realtek 8111/8168 PCI-E nics

2008-08-17 Thread Cedric Schieli
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: linux-image-2.6.24-19-generic

Multicast packets are ignored by r8169 driver for Realtek 8111/8168
nics.

This is fixed upstream in linus' tree (GIT-SHA

f887cce8de019bb32917789379af89ae4c0294ee)

I've rebuilt a stock hardy kernel (-19.36) with those two commits
cherry-picked and multicast works for me again.

The re-install loop is a more general problem, either in apt or in

For the failed re-install, I can't reproduce it.
Can you purge the package, install it, then issue /etc/init.d/vmware stop ?
If "Virtual ethernet" keeps failing, can you issue rmmod vmnet manually ?

[Bug 116210] NetworkManager fails with ndiswrapper and MSI CB54G2 wireless adapter

2007-05-22 Thread Cedric Schieli
Public bug reported:

First, everething works fine with linux-image-2.6.22-1-generic/linux-
ubuntu-modules-2.6.22-1-generic

With linux-image-2.6.22-2(up to 4)-generic/linux-ubuntu-
modules-2.6.22-2(up to 4)-generic, the ndiswrapper module loads fine,
iwconfig reports the AP, SSID, speed ..., dhcdbd spawn a dhclient but it
never gets a lease.

I haven't tried yet with 2.6.22-5

[Bug 127699] Various problems in 3.1.0-0ubuntu10

2007-07-23 Thread Cedric Schieli
Public bug reported:

I've identified various problems in latest xen-3.1 source package :

- FTBFS in pbuilder because of trailing debian/files file.
- /etc/init.d/xendomains fails because of bad LOCKFILE and XENDOM_CONFIG paths.
- pygrub fails because of missing /usr/lib/fs/*/fsimage.so
- PVFB fails because of missing /usr/lib/xen/bin/xen-*fb
- xen-vncfb uses wrong path for accessing keypmaps (/usr/share/xen/qemu instead
of /usr/share/xen-ioemu-3.1/qemu)

[Bug 127405] Re: xen kernel is compiled with PAE support, but xen-3.1 without

2007-07-23 Thread Cedric Schieli
This seems fixed by now, but IMHO there is a problem with providing only one
kind of hypervisor/kernel :
it will break many setups where (non-PAE) domUs don't share the kernel image
with dom0. (PAE domO cannot boot non-PAE domU, and vice-versa).
Rebuilding those kernels with PAE may not be easy, and maybe impossible
(third-party kernel images, pygrub images).

[Bug 129183] [Gutsy] System freeze when bringing up rt2500pci interface

Public bug reported:

With latest rt2500pci driver (from linux-ubuntu-

protection on the interface

I've tracked down the problem to this upstream

[Bug 118205] Re: Gutsy kernel 2.6.22-7-generic missing rt61 module

2007-07-13 Thread Cedric Schieli
The problem is that lowlevel drivers (rt2400pci.ko, rt2500pci.ko, rt2500usb.ko,
rt61pci.ko, rt73usb.ko) are not built, only the high level drivers
(rt2x00lib.ko, rt2x00pci.ko, rt2x00usb.ko) are.
The root cause of this seems to be that the .config is not automatically
included in recursive targets
Other modules subdirs are affected : fs/asfs media/lirc misc/ndiswrapper

This patch against current ubuntu-gutsy-lum git tree
(491aaa043eb8d65c6c55327c3a0214e578814681) fix this (only for the rt2x00 subdir)
The resulting lum package let my rt2500pci card work with network-manager (WEP,
didn't try WPA)

2007-07-17 Thread Cedric Schieli
Hmm, that's strange.

I've just checked with a fresh clone of git://kernel.ubuntu.com/ubuntu
/ubuntu-gutsy-lum.git, in a freshly updated gutsy chroot.

I've issued :

cd /tmp/ubuntu-gutsy-lum
cat /tmp/fix-rt2x00-build.patch | patch -p1
sudo apt-get install $(gdebi --apt-line -q debian/control)
fakeroot debian/rules binary-modules-generic

The resulting linux-ubuntu-modules-2.6.22-8-generic_2.6.22-8.19_i386.deb
contains the rt2400pci.ko et al. modules

Did you try to build your package in a similar way ?

I then manually installed ldap-auth-client (I can't remember if libpam-ldap

BTW it is easily retriggerable by dpkg-reconfiguring ldap-auth-config and

MSI CB54G2 (rt2500pci, cardbus) works out of the box here with hardy kernels

My config is WEP/open using NM

Since a few kernel updates, I have to manually force speed with

I also encounter disconnections after several hours running (say at
least 10 hours). I simply reconnect by clicking on my network name in

I think I found what's happening :

I compared various /var/lib/dpkg/status and /var/lib/apt/lists/ppa*_Packages

All the packages that keep reinstalling have a Pre-Depend field in the status
file but not in the Packages file.
Manually adding it in the Packages does the trick.

It seems soyuz is removing the Pre-Depend field...

[Bug 114885] Re: Notifications won't work. Error After Logout/In again Ubuntu 7.04

2007-06-07 Thread Cedric Schieli
Same problem here (plus drivemount applet do not appear when
notifications are not working).

Between logins, if I switch to VT and log with my user, I can see 2 processes
remaining from my last gdm session :
bonobo-activation-server and evolution-data-server
If I kill evolution-data-server, then bonobo-activation-server stops and
notifications work again in next gdm login.
If I do not kill those processes, notifications do not work in next gdm login.

[Bug 110933] "Socket credentials not supported on this OS" when trying to connect to gnome-keyring-daemon

2007-04-29 Thread Cedric Schieli
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-keyring

When tying to connect to gutsy's gnome-keyring-daemon (0.8.1-2), either
from gnome-keyring-manager or from nm-applet, I get a "Socket
credentials not supported on this OS" error.

I've tracked it down to a miscompiling caused by the current buggy
linux-libc-dev (2.6.22-1.3) :
the file /usr/include/asm-i386/socket.h is not included from
/usr/include/asm/socket.h, so the SO_PEERCRED constant is not defined.

The fix should be a rebuild when a fixed linux-libc-dev will be
available.

[Bug 37452] Re: fusion mpt sas driver does not find a RAID1 disk during installation(Sun Galaxy X4200 and X4100, Dell SASR5/i)

2007-04-18 Thread Cedric Schieli
Hi Zachary,

As mentioned earlier in this thread, I could successfully install LTS on a
Poweredge 860 by applying a bunch of patches backported from 2.6.16 (see
earlier my posts for the list)

Here is the path I've followed :
- patch and build the sources corresponding to the installer's kernel
(2.6.15-26-386)
- patch and build the sources of latest LTS linux-server (2.6.15-61-server)
- launch the installer
- when the network is up and running, upload (via ssh) the mpt modules from the
2.6.15-26-386 patched kernel into the installer's filesystem
- depmod, modprobe
- finish the install
- before the reboot, upload and install (in the chroot) the 2.6.15-61-server
linux-image package

I've setup a repository containing the latest packages with the patches applied
(2.6.15-61sdrik) :
deb http://cedric.gabriello.fr/ubuntu dapper misc

[Bug 123230] kernel panic when doing large transfer with ndiswrapper

2007-06-30 Thread Cedric Schieli
Public bug reported:

I've been hit several times by a (fixed upstream) bug which leads to a kernel
panic
I can reproduce it at will by uploading a 1 MB file in a Yahoo Mail attachment
form

According to upstream changelog, the bug is present in version 1.45 and
has been fixed in version 1.46

I'll attach a patch against current git
(bb8f36cccead20feb39de88d044c1b64590621a6) which update ndiswrapper to latest
version (1.47)
This patch fixes the problem for me
